Blown away by the quality of this set. I have been a heavy diesel slash car mechanic since 1966 and have almost every tool ever made. Presently I am a locomotive mechanic and got tired of replacing small ratchets that lock up. I have owned snap on, proto, craftsman, husky, SK,Stanley and just about every other manufacturer out there. This set blows away the competition to the point that they are no competition! Will definitely recommend and purchase their other products!

Exactly what the team needed. I am the coach of a FTC robotics team and I picked this up for our team to use. Since we normally do not deal with any nut or bolt larger than 1/2" this set is perfect for our needs. The picture does not do the set justice. Quality is first rate, each socket is laser etched with the size. Chroming is flawless. Sockets are heavy walled and well made. Metric and Standard sized come in both regular and deep-well each having its own individual compartment in the case so you can remove one socket and not have all others slide around in the case. Just need to teach the kids to put them back when they are done. Case is high quality with a true pin type hinge on the back, not just plastic strips that act like a hinge until it break. Front locks are plastic but well made and much better quality than you see in most tool set cases these days. An added plus is the thin red hand ratchet that speeds the install and removal nuts and bolts in tight spots. Outstanding set!!! The only CON: I can find is that the ratchet does not have a quick release. but that's not even worth taking away a star in my opinion. I am super pleased.

I absolutely love the Gearwrench socket sets! I initially bought the ½”, 3/8”, and ¼” set for the roll around in the shop because the Gearwrench sets have the greatest size ranges, both metric and standard, of any other set that I have found. This meant that the only sizes not in the case are the 27mm, 30mm, 32mm, 33mm, and 36mm that we use commonly use around the shop so inventorying the tools after a job is easy! I know that some people have complained that there is not a ball lock, or more to the point, a button to release the ball lock and the sockets could come off of the ratchet. So far, this has never been an issue. The 120 tooth ratchets are strong and I have had no issues at all with them. They definitely work well in tight areas where one can only get a small throw with the handle. As for durability and the finish, they are outstanding. These tools get used everyday, and for the last two and a half years, we have not had any issues (other than a 5/16” socket that grew legs). I finally opted to replace my old Craftsman set I had in my Jeep with the Gearwrench sets because of how complete they are and I can keep track of the tools when doing maintenance on the trail. I recommend them to anyone from an occasional wrench turner to a legitimate mechanic. They are very reasonably priced and IF they break, there is the lifetime warranty.

I bought this and a beautiful, black Tekton set 8 years. Both have been perfect, but this is the one I most often use. I love that all the common sizes are in one, easy-to-carry kit that nestles neatly in my portable tool bag. There are even extensions and deep sockets, for when those are needed. And I'm amazed how often I reach for the knob driver--it's really compact and easy to work with. Absolutely recommended.
I like the socket set and look forward to using it. I purchased this because of the compact size. The problem is the case. When you turn the socket set up on its side or flip it over, half the sockets fall out of their intended place holders. I'll never understand companies that make a case that does this. It's very frustrating for people that travel with thier tools. I did fix the issue by laying 2 small rags flat on top of the set before closing the case.
I paid $59 for this in 2015. I have used it many times for smaller projects, on my motorcycle etc. In brief, this is very good quality, and at that price, this is a steal. I normally buy high-end German tools that cost many times more, and even when keeping that standard in mind, this is a good set. Obviously it's not as nice as a Stahwille at 8x the price, but in all the parts that matter it comes very close. The good: The ratchet is well made and feels precise. It has a lot of teeth which is convenient when you don't have a lot of space to work with. The sockets are precise and the size is stamped, so it won't wear off. The chroming is done well and does not flake off. The set is arranged logically in the box and has all the parts and sizes that you'd expect from ... MoreI paid $59 for this in 2015. The chroming is done well and does not flake off. The set is arranged logically in the box and has all the parts and sizes that you'd expect from a set like this. The so-so: The only part in this set that isn't great is the red "thumb ratchet". The ratcheting action isn't as smooth as the one on the normal ratchet, and it has quite a bit of play. The blow-mold case is decent but not awesome. Things do not move out of place when it is closed, but it is a bit rattly, the live hinges won't last forever, and the size markings are hard to read because they're black-on-black. The bad: I can't find anything bad about this set.
I've already done reviews on these socket sets in the 1/2" and 3/8" sizes. I own six sets. The 6 pt and 12 pt in all three sizes. That is how much I like these tools. The quality is excellent and I like the wrenches better than my vintage Craftsman and newer Craftsman wrenches. What else can I say? These are great tools and a good value for the money. I've quickly become a fan of Gearwrench tools and have recently purchased their combination wrenches as well.
Really nice 1/4 drive set. Has all the sizes you could ask for and the fit and finish is nice. The ratchet is pretty finely geared and the box is great. I use this for most of my hex bolt work around our building. 1/4 is easier to work with in tight places and if I need to break something loose or really crank it down I use a box end wrench or a Knipex Pliers wrench. I got into Gearwrench a few years back with their ratchet wrenches and have enjoyed the brand ever since. They fit and work well. They last and they are cost effective.
So it seems like what everyone has said is true. Ever since Gearwrench sold out, the quality has disappeared. First the case, now like most people I don't use cases for sockets. However this case is a complete piece of junk. It is so flimsy all my sockets came disorganized. A case should be able to hold all the tools in their proper spots, this will never be able to do that. The picture shows how the case from the first time I opened it. Secondly, the etching is quite poor being deeper on certain sockets and as the picture shows as thin as not even being able to see it. So now I have a 5/16th socket I'll never remember has missing lettering. Last negative here is that the deep sockets aren't actually deep sockets. The depth only goes down a short bit then it is just the circular opening through the end. Quite disappointing to see this design here. Lastly the rest of the set seems great and sturdy, I will know more once I actually use it this weekend. Honestly I am not purchasing another gearwrench item again and this saddens me as when I was a mechanic this was my favorite brand but now it is just another Chinese piece of junk.
This set is very nice minus one thing. It does NOT include deep sockets! What it has is long sockets with shallow contacts surfaces! This matters a lot in tight areas when loosening a nut or bolt. The shallow cut contact surface will force the socket and ratchet out towards whatever is behind the ratchet, sooner than a DEEP socket would. This is also an issue in other ways which anyone that wrenches much could understand. Attached is a picture with a gearwrench socket with the shallow cut contact surface and next to it is a REAL DEEP SOCKET. Dissapointed, minus two stars for dropping the ball on an otherwise nice set. Other than that, one small complaint is they are pretty hard to read the sizes for my old eyes without putting on my glasses which I tend to not wear ... MoreThis set is very nice minus one thing. Not dinging them for my habit though. Just the stupid NOT DEEP SOCKETS.
