Awesome fitness tracker smart watch!

I was looking for a smart watch with good fitness tracking features , with no subscription fees. Buying an Apple Watch would require me to switch to and Apple phone, that was crazy expensive for me. I did my research, found an article that called the Venu SQ the Apple Watch killer. I decided to buy one and Walmart had an awesome price. The watch is really nice! You can pair it to an Android or an Apple phone or IPad! One hidden subscription fees to use the agar in Connect App. It tracks heart rate, oxygen, steps, calories, sleep and more! Love that it has a pregnancy tracker feature, where I can enter symptoms, gives me basic pregnancy updates. I can track hydration. It has so many features! I purchased this a month ago and, well, I prefer the Fitbit. I actually prefer their app over Garmin connect too. The screen doesn't stay on long enough for my old eyes to read everything and the screens themselves are too small to read sometimes. Also there isn't enough competition to engage with so I am missing that motivation I get from the other. The biggest Pro for me is in the notifications - the vibration is stronger and I can hear it which is very convenient. (I became unaware of Fitbit's vibration after about 1 year.) Also, the vibration has different patterns, I think, from a call vs a notification from an app. Finally a note on the GPS tracking.1. I wish it wasn't so specific when posting. Because of that, I have turned off posting to my account.2. ... MoreI purchased this a month ago and, well, I prefer the Fitbit. I actually prefer their app over Garmin connect too. Just started our fitness journey and this watch has been an integral part of keeping track of everything so far. The battery life is good, I can usually get 4 days of heavy use. It's a tough little watch, it's taken a couple of heavy blows with no ill effects, not even a scratch.I've nicknamed it "The Dictator" because it tells me to get up and move after I've been sitting at the desk for too long. You can turn the reminders off, but I really like it. Just getting up and stretching or doing jumping jacks for a few minutes clears the reminder and does wonders for my mental health too. I've noticed I'm much less stressed out when I do it.Overall, genuinely impressed with the watch.

Good but not great

I was torn between a Fitbit Versa and the Garmin Sq. Went with the Garmin as you need to pay for a prescription to access all features for Fitbit. The Garmin is very sleek and great for tracking steps, sleep, heartrate and had many excercises you can track. I love that you can customise your own wallpaper and it's comfortable to wear.Con's: screen got scratched within the first week so I've had to order a screen cover. It didn't sync properly so my calculated resting calories were 11000 (over by 9000). I reached out to Garmin support who are looking into it but I haven't had a response 2 weeks later, despite my following up. The watch isn't compatible with my bank so I can use google pay. This is a great little device, especially for the price (purchased at reduced price of approx $250). Having just had a bit of a clunker previously, very impressed with quality and accuracy of all the sensors, functionality is very good, reasonably intuitive, battery currently lasts 5-7 days I guess, dependent on particular use and whether putting it through its paces. The wristband took a bit of getting used to, just had a weird feel, like it was too tight no matter how loose it was but I got used to it. Wouldn't have paid $450 for it but happy as baby. One issue I have though is there doesn't seem to be a setting to set how long the screen stays on for when you're using the screen to look at stats or whatever (I think there's a setting to make it stay on ... MoreThis is a great little device, especially for the price (purchased at reduced price of approx $250). I’ve had this for over a month and haven’t had any problems with it. Since I traded up from the Garmin Vivosmart 4 the Connect app was already installed on my phone; I just had to delete the old device and pretty quickly the app found my new device. Other apps connected to my old device just changed seamlessly to the new Garmin without me having to do anything. I haven’t lost the connection between my phone and watch once. The charge lasts about 5 days, though I haven’t let it go below 20% before charging. I also only wear it overnight 2-3 times per week so that could lengthen the battery life. Before Garmin I used a Fitbit and I think Fitbit does a better job tracking sleep. The screen face is bigger than I’m used to but it’s definitely not too big.If I have to ... MoreI’ve had this for over a month and haven’t had any problems with it. Also the Health Stats screen is 2 screens and the numbers load but before I can read them the display has gone to screen 2.No regrets trading up and and staying with the Garmin brand.

It's a good watch...but...

A year ago I purchased the Fenix 6S and wore it nearly every day. I found it was too much watch for me. Too many features I didn't use, and too large. However I was extremely satisfied with its durability. So I decided to go down in features and get the Venu Sq. First of all, I didn't want the music edition as I will not use it, however for the all black look I had to get that version. That is one reason for knocking off one star. The other reason is that even though it is supposed to be made with Gorilla Glass just like the Fenix, after only one week of wearing my Venu, the surface has multiple scratches! I am a very active person and by no means claim to be gentle on my Garmin products. All of my other products have always held up to my lifestyle. To give you some examples, I hiked 700 miles of the Appalachian Trail with my Fenix wearing it constantly day and night. I spearfished with it and wore it boating. I once slammed it against a hard surface on accident. Not a scratch a year later. I expected the same durability out of the Venu. But like I said, after wearing it for one week (including one spearfishing trip and one kayaking trip), it has multiple scratches. I can't even remember a time I noticeably knocked it against a surface either. All in all, I am still enjoying the watch. It is stylish and has the right amount of features and settings. It makes a great day to day smartwatch. But if you are a very active person like me, it might not be durable enough for your needs. I am going to take the chance and keep on going with it. Really, for the cost, if it lasts a year and scratches up or breaks, I think the year of use will be worth it.

Not great features!

I have a few complaints about the watch:1. I sometimes get "Content expired" message that prevents me from playing music through the watch. I once got this message inconveniently when hiking Mt. Whitney where I was really hoping on playing some music to stay motivated during the 18.5h hike but no, the watch decided it was not going to play songs that were already downloaded on the device. A Garmin FAQ mentions: "Music downloads must be refreshed once every 30 days to avoid interruption when playing your downloaded music content." which makes absolutely no sense. This is not a feature, it's a really annoying and unnecessary bug. Someone fix it.2. The battery life is not amazing. With the default settings the watch died during my marathon training run (~3h). I started w 80% battery and was tracking the run and playing music. For my actual marathon to prevent the watch from dying I ended up playing music out of my phone and only used the watch for tracking (I also disabled a bunch of features to try and extend the battery). Should the watch not last long enough to run a marathon? What's the point of the music feature then.3. It can take forever to connect to GPS. The watch frequently takes longer than 10-15 min to connect so that I can start tracking my run. There were many runs where the watch would take ~30 min (especially when cloudy is what I noticed) to connect at which point I was close to being done with my run. It is very frustrating to just stand there not knowing how long the watch will take until I can start tracking my run.4. Related to the above, once the watch does connect to the GPS and is ready to start tracking the activity, it only stays in this mode for maybe 5 minutes and then it goes back to the default mode. You can imagine how this becomes inconvenient because now I have to somehow time this window during which I can start the activity because if the watch cancels the ready to track mode then it can again take a long time to re-connect to GPS and I might already have crossed the start line during a race.I think giving this watch 2 stars is generous.

I thought buying an established name brand like this would ensure longevity and excellent basic performance.Well, it has been almost a year and while longevity might still be possible, basic performance leaves a lot to be desired.I don't care so much about fancy features like all the different kinds of workouts you're supposedly able to track, but I am super disappointed with its inability to track basic step count and minutes of activity. It is supposed to count moderate and intense activity. Stylish and perfect fitness tracker, has it all
27 June 2023

After Fitbit was getting rid of all their features which I bought my watch for... it was time to move to Garmin. The Venu SQ Music has everything I wanted which included downloading my OWN music to listen to with wireless earbuds, I DON'T have to have a spotify or deezer subscription, I listen to my own music! It tracks my heart rate, has GPS and auto tracks my runs. Heaps of other features too. The one thing it does not have is the app to download C25K. I was able to create my own workout though, and download it to the watch to replace the app I was used to on my other watch. I can also change bands and watch faces and screen protectors. I change them all different colours to coordinate with my outfit.
