I remember as a kid my father playing this game everyday. I tried it out a bit but never got into it the way I should have. For years and years I wanted to pick this up and play it but he had lost his copy over the years. When I found out my system still worked after all these years I needed to make this purchase. When it arrived the case had broken a bit during shipping so the top of the case came off and the disc was loose. Luckily nothing was wrong with any of the discs and they all work fine. I've been playing it the last two nights trying to play it the way it should have been played. I emailed them about the case damage and they sent me a replacement case that day for free. Too notch customer service.

As per standard of the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy VIII is another great game. Awesome soundtrack, storytelling, and characters. Only spot that is not as great as the others may be the gameplay (Junction system), but that may be influenced on your personal preference.

Final Fantasy VIII is really easy to break. The Draw and Junction system allow for your characters to steal magic from enemies and use that power to bolster their own stats. Once card magic is unlocked though, it's easy to turn cards into items, items into magic, and magic into unstoppable power. This is all possible around the time you run through the first dungeon of the game. I would recommend this game as somebody's first Final Fantasy if only because of how difficult it is to NOT break this entry. Personally, I enjoyed the story here too: it's a love story focusing on the relatively small cast of playable characters.

I bought this product because Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite video game. I have the green label (greatest hits) and I wanted to own the original black label. This game is an action RPG and is filled with suspense, drama and romance. One of the many things I love about this game is the characters and their dialogue. There are numerous one-liners from the characters and I found myself laughing out loud frequently. I also enjoyed the junction system in the game, which allows the player to equip the character with Guardian Forces (GF) and magic. The player can customize each character to his or her liking. Aside from the plot and characters, the music is classic and composed beautifully. Each track holds meaning to its location in the game; I loved the music so much ... MoreI bought this product because Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite video game. Many will claim that Final Fantasy VII is the greatest Final Fantasy, but Final Fantasy VIII exceeds Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VIII has a more efficient equipment system, where the players can control the character's attack, defense, magic and how many health points the character has. The player can also choose a certain number of magic spells that the character can absorb and be unaffected by in battle. The level of romance is also very passionate, an area that Final Fantasy VII lacks. Another area lacking in Final Fantasy VII is the main charcter's personality. While Squall in FF VIII begins as a quiet, guarded character, he develops during the game, realizing he loves one of the character, and going to great lengths to protect her. Cloud in FF VII is also quiet like Squall, but he stays introverted for pretty much the whole game. Cloud does not lower his guard, whereas Squall portrays a vast transformation from the beginning of the game. Overall, I very highly recommend Final Fantasy VIII to anyone who loves adventure, romance, fantasy or who simply enjoys a great RPG game.
Was never into any of the Final Fantasy series when younger - but enjoy the story driven gameplay now I am older and appreciate more than smooth graphics and action. Considering the age of the game, I feel that the graphics - especially form the cut scenes - hold up all things considered. And has the cutest character ever - in my opinion!!
Final Fantasy VIII is the the follow up to Final Fantasy VII which was unquestionably the greatest rpg of that time, so there was a lot of pressure to out perform ffvii in order to continue the series at such a high level of excellence. Well, ffviii is still one of the greatest of all time rpg's. In fact, i'm currently on my 8th play now. When i loaded the game though, the ps2 unit fell, and broke my disk. This devastated me, but i got on ebay and found the game at a great price so i bought it. I decided this time to really take my time playing the game because i've always been inpatient and have skipped things, but not this time and i'm really glad i didn't because i realize how much I have missed. After playing this game 8 times thru, you would think i have finally mastered the game, but than again i keep learning new things about it. this is what make a great game, because it has excellent replay value. The character are interesting. I call Squall (the main character), Squally, because he's very private and doesn't like to disclose his thoughts to others, but you know what he's thinking because the game shows you in brackets. Squall was appointed the Leader of Balamb Garden, by Cid, who relinquishes the role after an unsuccessful hostile takeover by an original investor of the garden. I leave the rest of the characters names as is. The story is interesting, (there's a love story between Squall and Rinoa), but also has great development of each character which is a problem in most rpg's. All i can say is PLAY THIS GAME if you like rpg's. It's with out a doubt, a classic. I personally think Square Soft out did itself when they made this game.
This is one of the longer and more intriguing FF stories. Tropey as heck and sometimes one-dimensional characters, yes, but theyre all so fun and loveable:). Also has one of the most addictive card mini games ever put into any FF
This game embodies everything glorious about tan rpg. The graphics are phenomenal and still leave me in awe. The fact that a PlayStation one can accomplish such fidelity leaves me bewildered. The soundtrack is some of squaresoft’s finest only bested by Chrono Cross and Squaresoft is the best at music in video games in my opinion. The gameplay from the core mechanics to the fun mini games are awesome.Regarding DKOldies my copy was pristine. Really appreciate the care that went into packaging my game.
I really enjoy this game. Unfortunately, the copy I bought from this site does not work at all. On the few occasions that disc one would read, it freezes partway through the opening sequence. So, I now own an unplayable game.
