Bought a dozen or so to update all the doors in our house. They are easy to install, look good and are a big step up in usability from our previous round knobs. We were unsure whether the cost was worth it, but no more since we've been using them.

Handles are fine, just check inside the box to make sure you are getting what you asked for, we needed right hand handles but the boxes had left hand handles in them. We spent a lot of time trying to get the correct handles and it became a bit of a joke. It's all god, just annoying to have to keep going back which wasn't just down the road!

We bought many of these when we built our house. The handles are too sharp and very unsafe (my wife and I have both had scars on our forearm multiple times). The pin for the privacy doors also stop working regularly.

Do not buy this product if you want a lock that actually works. i have 4 doors with this installed and over the last 6 months all locks have stopped working. it starts with the mechanism starting to get harder to push the lock in place to lock the door and over time it fails and you cannot lock it no matter how much you wiggle trying to get it into place to lock.
Changed a number of doors with this product both privacy and passage sets. I especially like the rigid construction with no play or squeaks like other brands, worth the extra money for long lasting quality.
We got these lever sets when the house was renovated 5 years ago. They started playing up after 2 years - first just a bit wobbly, then the whole unit started to turn when you'd press the lever, if you let it keep going at some point the bolt wouldn't retract entirely anymore. There's a little bit you can do by frequently re-tightening the discs, but due to the completely idiotic design, this won't help in the long run: The whole thing is held in place by the friction of the discs on either side pressing against the door's timber, while the inside part holding the retracting bolt -- the part that the torque is applied to -- basically floats free. At best slotting reasonably neatly into the cutout... but just no way enough support to actually withstand daily ...Β MoreWe got these lever sets when the house was renovated 5 years ago. At best slotting reasonably neatly into the cutout... but just no way enough support to actually withstand daily frequent use.Today, the lever set on the toilet door broke completely, and it took over an hour to dismantle it to the point that the door can at least be opened. The fairly flimsy metal housing of the retracting bolt had simply broken apart. After about 5 years of use. Lucky no one was stuck inside for that time.Compare this to the cheapest, crappiest lever sets you see in European houses: Their mechanism actually slots into the door and holds itself in place without wobbling by virtue of its shape. No maintenance needed apart from maybe greasing about once a decade. Many houses from the mid-1800s still use their original lever sets -- because they just work and there's no need to replace them.I'm appalled how this complete failure in building a well-established, completely-figured-out piece of basic hardware passes as a product fit for sale.
Check the reviews in the "privacy" version of this door knob. The same problems apply here.As the other reviews describe, they locks don't stay in place in the door, they "float" and eventually don't sit where they should sit. This means they eventually "slip" into the hole in the door and sit at an angle. But that isn't the worst of the problems. One of our doors appeared to be ok, wasn't floating. We closed the door one day, and refused to open again. Both myself and my wife were trapped inside this room, we'd have to smash our way out the window to get out.Fortunately, my daughter was outside, so we told her how to take apart her side of the lock, and I used a screwdriver on my side to take apart mine. Once all dismantled, it still wouldn't open. There are ...Β MoreCheck the reviews in the "privacy" version of this door knob. Once all dismantled, it still wouldn't open. There are plastic parts that turn and pull the sprung stopper in and out, to open the door. Those had broken and come apart from each other. We had no way of pulling the stopper back.So like a jail-break movie, my daughter slid a hacksaw under the door, and we were able to hacksaw the stopper apart. It took us over an hour to get that door open.Once open, removing the door lock from the door was still a challenge, as we couldn't pull the metal tube thing out through the door (the way it was installed)... the door lock had spread open. So we had to bend it with pliers until I could finally remove it.Now we have a door with no handle. And am wondering what will happen with the other door handles!
I bought a house with these handles already in place and within a few years they started getting loose and not locking properly. Then the the ones on our toilet doors failed when the door was closed.Thank goodness my kids weren't inside trapped because it took me ages to dismantle the latch from the door and still the inner latch refused to release from the door frame.I got it open in the end without doing damage to my door or frame.I am going to change all these door handles around the house to something else.
Do not buy the Gainsborough passage or privacy sets. This range has a faulty mechanical design which over time renders it very dangerous. Because the screws securing the knobs do not pass through the latch, as is standard in other products, these Gainsborough handles do not remain fixed in place. Over time they come loose and float in place and need constant attention and retightening. But sometimes this loosening happens rapidly, and will render the entire unit unusable! Unusable is NOT acceptable for a doorknob. You cannot have a doorknob fail with an adult, child, baby, pet trapped in a room unable to escape. We had these beautiful looking knobs installed in our brand new house in 2018. Unusable is NOT acceptable for a doorknob. You cannot have a doorknob fail with an adult, child, baby, pet trapped in a room unable to escape. We had these beautiful looking knobs installed in our brand new house in 2018. Twice⦠TWICE⦠in the last five months my wife and infant have been stuck on one side of a door with no way of escape. Each time was a different door in our home. Most recently when they were trapped, the unit would not respond to any attempt at repair and the latch refused to budge. We tried multiple solutions to free them from the room. Eventually, to avoid destroying our door trim, I literally had to tear the latch apart piece by piece to free my wife and child.Perhaps that sounds over dramatic. But a doorknob has one job. The faulty mechanical design of these knobs mean they fail that job. These knobs fail their only job. They are not worth the purchase price. Skip them and buy from a provider where the screws securing the knobs pass through the latch mechanism itself and do not float free.
We got it in our whole house as part of house & land package. 3 of the handles stopped working which we had take out by force. The pin locks are also very temperamental and inferior. Worst door handles ever. We are taking them all out and getting better ones at our own cost.
