Great all around shoe. Clean enough for around town, casual work, or hitting the boulder field. Super sticky rubber, but doesn't squeak on tile flooring. Firm insole, but enough padding to remain comfortable.Seems to fit right. sizing is accurate

Ordered these on sale for $80 and it was such a steal! They look great and if you were to wear them off the bike I don’t think anyone would notice. They feel great and the sizing chart was just right on, also a bonus is that my feet don’t sweat in them even in 40*C weather. They grip amazingly on my RaceFace Chester pedals and the laces don’t untie themselves. One gripe that has nothing to do with the shoe is the shipping. I sincerely hate FedEx for the many packages they have screwed up to deliver on time and with actual working tracking. I would use some other shipping service. FedEx is really keen on delaying packages without reason, and then not telling you on the tracking website.

I just picked these up a few days ago but am loving these shoes. I used to wear skate shoes like Vans years ago growing up, but haven't in a long time. I'm really happy with the size of these. I remember a lot of skate shoes being fairly wide, these are pretty narrow, even more so than my everyday sneakers. Nice thick padding and the sole isn't so stiff that they are uncomfortable to walk in, wearing them the day I purchased we spent a lot of time walking a mall and other stores and they were awesome. On the bike I was even more surprised. I've only just started mountain biking and was wearing my sketcher sneakers on the pinned flat pedals. They gripped but it was easy for me to shift my foot around on the pedal while just relaxed pedaling. With the Five Tens on I ... MoreI just picked these up a few days ago but am loving these shoes. Once I put my foot on the pedal that's where its going to stay until I move it. They have made my confidence fly when it comes to standing on the bike and feeling like I'm not at risk of slipping if I hit something on the trail.I don't have experience with other shoes of this type as these were the only flat shoes the REI I visited had besides the slightly more expensive versions of these, but if my opinion a good pair of these shoes are well worth the investment.

Good basic shoe for flat pedals
14 December 2022

I purchased these shoes to use with my winter beater bike on which I put flat pedals. All my cycling for the past decades has been on clipless pedals (Look, SPD-R, and SPD). I was pleasantly surprised how much they helped over just wearing athletic shoes. Even with the mesh toe box, my feet have stayed comfortable in winter riding (might be a bit warm come summer). At the sale price of $60, they were well worth the purchase.

Good shoes - run small
20 June 2024

The Five Ten Freerider shoes seem well-made, and they work well with my Look flat pedals. They're a little heavy but I'm riding for exercise so it's no problem for me. If you're looking for a more efficient shoe, I would go with the Pro. I think the shoes run small. I normally take a size 11 in shoes, but needed these in 11.5.

Great shoes, definitely elevated my skills, paired with DMR Vault pedals riding DH, Enduro, and Freestyle. I did wear a hole through the rubber soles in less than 3 monthes. I was riding these at least 3-4 days a week. They have a plastic shank under the rubber so the feel was still good even with a hole. The rubber on these were softer than my Impacts, and I feel like me Freerider is better rubber as well. The Pro's have better toe protection than the standard freerider. I think I like my freeriders the best overall. Pros 2nd. Impact for extreme DH only.

Love!!

I bought a pair of these for my 20-year-old son who is an avid bicyclist. He has loved his new 5/10 shoes and has raced about their comfort as well as performance. I was able to purchase the shoes at a surprisingly low rate when I comparison shopped!!! We highly recommend purchasing this product from Moosejaw!

Standard MTB Shoe

Switched to these after riding for almost a year in sneakers and old skate shoes. My skate shoes had holes and were curling over my pedals because of how soft they were so it was time for an upgrade. These shoes are definitely an upgrade. They feel great and are very grippy and stiff. I was surprised at how much protection there actually is (the toe box is hard, almost like a workers boot). The shoe is very comfy just wearing around town and feels great on the trail. In the winter, my toes do get a little cold and sometimes numb while riding, so waterproofing socks or shoe covers might be a good route. It's also hard to spend $100 on a pair of shoes, but for how well they work and based on my research, they should be worth it.All in all, these are a great shoe to ... MoreSwitched to these after riding for almost a year in sneakers and old skate shoes. Solid protection, grip and stiffness.

Sticky, runs small, not waterproof (?)

The title really says it all, but I switched to these because I was tired of not being able to unclip in time when hitting unexpected trail obstacles going uphill, or chain coming off, or... Nothing better than tipping over, and the great amusement for others you generate while struggling with your bike in the dirt. These shoes provide the security I want on downhills, similar to clipless, and the flexibility to instantly step off the pedal when needed. You obviously lose the upstroke, but I'm just done with clipless on mountain bikes.I wear a size 9.5 - 10, but in 90% of shoes/boots, 9.5. These need to be a 10 for me. They are narrow on my already narrow feet, but I like that for this application.I try to avoid bad weather, usually, but I live in northwestern ... MoreThe title really says it all, but I switched to these because I was tired of not being able to unclip in time when hitting unexpected trail obstacles going uphill, or chain coming off, or... Trails get muddy and getting wet is unavoidable. I haven't tested them in wet conditions, but they don't claim to be waterproof. They seem pretty thick, and shouldn't let in a bunch of water easily, but I would say these are fair-weather shoes. I'll probably wear my waterproof hiking shoes in bad weather, and just hope to not slip off the pedals.Overall, I like these, and they do well what they are advertised to do. They also don't look dorky, so I can wear them from trail to pub.

Tight with little arch support
9 March 2023

I was surprised by how short these shoes were. I like the appearance and the quality seems okay, but the size I ordered usually fits me. Just be forewarned. I'll order a full size larger and hope they fit. I also have super high arches so the inner soles were too flat to be comfortable. I tried some different inner soles and the shoes felt better.
