A solidly built, versatile and very capable dac/amp. It has balanced XLR4 and 4.4mm, and 1/4" SE headphone connections, as well as balanced XLR LO and preamp outs If you don't need built in EQ (the K9 has it, via app, only for the BT) or a fancy screen then this is a good value option and deserves serious consideration.

Brilliant sound and easy to manage. Adapts easily to different cables (and has balanced input) plus XLR outputs at the back of the unit (a little bit inconvenient). Another minor quibble is that the toggles switches are very small. But this is minor. All in all, an extremely good unit for its price.

The 2024 Fiio K9 AKM is a superb sounding and functioning dac/preamplifier. This is a worthwhile upgrade over my previous Fiio K7 and does not suffer from the volume control issues that plague it's little brother. No sudden jarring increase in volume with a minor turn of the volume knob like I experienced with the K7. As far as the dac implementation, sure I would liked to have seen a dual AK4499EX dac implementation in this unit. However, the sound I am hearing is mind blowing considering the $529.00 US retail price of this new Fiio K9. Why would anyone even be remotely interested in the 2023 ES9068AS version of the Fiio K9. The new flagship AKM dac chips have a warm, musical analog sound that would make the R2R fans giddy. This is clearly the new benchmark in ... You say want even more performance and better sound than this Fiio K9 AKM offers... then open up your wallet and purchase a Geshelli Labs J2S (socketed) AKM 4499EX dac loaded with Sparkos or Staccato op-amps and then buy an Aune S17 Pro to run in pure class A mode as your balanced headphone/preamplifier. Your going to have to spend close to $2k to get a subjective improvement in sound quality vs. what the Fiio K9 AKM is offering at only $529.00 USD.
