A great alternative reso head

I put these heads on my Tama Starclassic B/B drums before I really knew what sound I was going for and they immediately replaced the factory G1 clears that were on the bottom. Now, as a great standard reso head, the G1 is already the go to head for many, including me. But I've found with this head on my toms, sized 8", 10", 12" and 16" diameters, they all speak clearly and with an open tone and get out of the way. This innovation reminds me of comparing a fast crash to a standard crash. You still get the initial attack, power and a pure tone when you hit it, but the fast aspect creates a sooner decay like a smoothly tapered studio gate. And it's not a dead shortened ring like the hydraulics create on some toms. For me these heads are great and I've got nothing but compliments on my drum's tuning and the sound of these in recordings is amazing, just controlled enough to require little editing. Lastly, batter heads are an important factor so I will mention that mine are UV1s, a great combo with these resos and while I did first miss some of the open depth of my stock G2s over G1s, I feel the warmth and controlled sustain brings the best out of my drums in a way that those original clear heads, muffled or not, can't. Bottom line, this is another excellent Evan's product worth a try, with the proper tuning you won't be disappointed.

It honestly sounds like a beautifully recorded snare drum now right out of the gate! This head seems to remove all the bad and leave all the good, which is pretty dang remarkable! Using coated heads as a resonant head is nothing new. It's been done very effectively by many great players. I own a maple kit with 6 ply toms cut with a 45 degree bearing edge. My sizes range from 6 to 14. My batter heads consist of Evans G2 clears. Typically, I have used Evans Genera Resonant clears on the bottom of my toms. However, I have found that combination of heads to produce a sound a bit bright with too much sustain for my taste as of late. The coated Reso 7's work perfectly as described. With the 360 technology, the heads seat easily to the drum and tune up quickly. The sound is warm and with the thinner head, you get the response needed from a bottom head. The sustain is natural but effectively muffled allowing more of the attack sound to come through ... MoreUsing coated heads as a resonant head is nothing new. The 6 inch tom is only 5 inches in depth while the 14 inch suspended tom is 9 inches in depth. The 8, 10, and 12 inch toms are only an inch in difference being 6 inches, 7 inches, and 8 inches respectively. The shallow depths along with my higher tuning preference is where these Reso heads work for me. I prefer for my toms to sing and not sound too muddled. Too much sustain from the resonant heads can cause quick stickings I like to do on my larger toms to not be as clear as I like them to be heard.

Evans has created another amazing head
12 December 2019

I was in the market to try the UV2 after hearing the recent buzz around it's release. I tried the UV1 when it launched and felt that i found it to be a great snare head but for my purposes was a bit too bright and lively. Now for the UV2 I feel as though with the second ply, my Tom's have a brighter attack then I had with my G2's but with a much more focused tone from the drum without the need to use dampening (although no shame if you enjoy that sound, I do but I just didn't have a hard time dialing in my sound with the head as is). Now I am saying that while I love G2's, the slightly thicker feeling of the UV2 feels better for my play style, and doesn't get lost in low end punch but retains an articulate sound from each stroke played. I would buy this product again.
9 February 2022

Great durable head. Even though this head is thick, it still plays and sounds like it is a thinner head. The sound has higher overtones than what I anticipated, not as muffled as expected. Overall great sound, but did not have as low of a tone, fat, or low- end rumble as I believed it would have initially. Little too pingy for my taste when it comes to a floor tom, but once again, a really good product.

I'm pretty darned happy.
5 April 2021

I've been using Evans heads for a heck of a long time. I've never been disappointed. Unless you're loaded with dough or have help, it takes years for a drummer to find the right heads. I lucked out, I bought a piccolo at a pawn shop that had an Evans. I immediately fell in love with the tone. I replaced all of my heads after that. The 16" head I just bought is for a Majestic floor tom I found and refurbished to go with my "found parts" drum kit I'm putting together. Yeah, this floor ain't exactly mint nor top of the line but putting a good head on this baby worked wonders. There's a warm, beefy tone to the drum now. I'm pretty darned happy.

If you crave a slightly fat, rich drum sound

Great heads. Provides just the right amount of fat, wet sound while preserving a degree of attack and tuneabiliy for rebound to still be able to execute fast precision fills and beats. Fantastically amazing on both my my Tama Superstars! Also, don't forget to tune up your kit every 6 months depending on wear and replace heads-it's like washing a filthy dirty bug encrusted windshield...it gives you a whole new and improved outlook on your drums and life.

My Favorite Tom Head

By far I think it's my favorite Tom head. The G2 coated 2 ply Evans, white sits on a 13 inch Plywood "Enforcer" brand Tom with a 5 lug hoop. Though the inside of the Tom has been reconditioned and by the looks of this Tom drum is every bit of 10 years old. Grant it these plywood Toms and kit are pretty low standards: But hey take them out for some rough house play: What had you lost: the memories. Along with the Evans Resonate Glass head, this drum sounds just like the opening drum beats of the Rolling Stones hit "Paint it Black". Of course next to this 13 inch Plywood is a 12 in plywood Tom with the Evans Onyx. Which I think controls the smaller Toms' distinct trash can vibrations. As much as I am fascinated by the clear heads I have with a dampening ring, or the Remo CC Batter with outside black dot: I am going to order more G2.

The head was streaked
5 January 2023

I've been using Evans heads for many years now and love them. I've also used Sam Ash for several orders and had no issues, until now. This particular Evans 8" batter head was streaked/smeared. It was just a hair shy of being "scored" w/ some of the white coating almost removed. I'm not sure how it got into this shape. Possibly during shipping by the courier? Or maybe at Evans (hopefully not) or at Sam Ash while packing/shipping. The head is still functional, it is just not aesthetically pleasing.

Would definitely buy again! Great heads as always from Evans
26 March 2020

This product is great! I currently switched from the onyx series to these uv2's and have been impressed so far. They offer just a bit more tone and sustain than the onyx heads. I cnt wait to put these uv2 heads through some wear. I wanted to test out the claim that the coating lasts a lot longer. The coating is definitely more durable as of now. Usually heads show sign of wear after a good half hour of playing, and these still look new! Only time will tell! Thanks sam ash for always being so kind to me! Hope to see the guys at the shop soon.
