Estee Lauder Double Wear 24H Waterproof Gel Eye Pencil - 12 Gold

Old version was much better!I have used the Double Wear Pencil for over 10 years. It was the perfect eyeliner. The pencil it's self even lasted a long time. This new version is to soft "melts" and smudges when applying. You have to sharpen it after nearly each use. I've have the estee lauder sharper and still have the issue of it not sharpening well. I also find at the end of the day it has creased off in my eyelids. I've tried the other eyeliner too, and nothing compares to the old pencil. I definitely wish they would bring the old version back, as it was definitely a lot better product.

Change For The Worse

I have used Estée Lauder eye liner for many years and was delighted with it. It just worked - lovely shade of almost soft electric blue ( my 3 year old grandson called me Nana blue eyes) it lasted a long time and was so easy to apply. I lost my make up bag at the gym and in it all my EL EYE LINERS. I replaced the lost items quickly. I knew straightaway that something was different and not good. The sapphire blue eye liner is hardly blue at all, very dark and difficult to apply. I agree it needs more sharpening but can not understand why. The old pencil was so soft and easy to apply and looked so good. I am now searching for a new replacement. I am hoping EL goes back to the old formula and colour after reading recent reviews.

Disappointed

Must have changed the product. Have used this product for many years, but something has drastically changed. 1. Can't sharpen without tip constantly breaking off and yes, I have an Estee Lauder sharpener, so that changes nothing. 2. This smudges something awful (never used to smudge). It gathers in both corners of my eyes, then when you go to correct or wipe away it smudges everywhere. This is just not the same formula as before, since I started using this last pen, by mid-day I look like a racoon. So I guess I will have to change to something else until I find my new favorite eye liner again.

Disappointing replacement to the retractable Eyeliner

Wow! I got onto this website to give feedback to Estee Lauder about this pencil and was refreshed to see how many others have been disappointed with this product. After 30+ years of using the EL retractable eyeliner, I have no longer been able to purchase and have had to replace it with this pencil. Whilst agreed it is smooth and creamy to apply, I too have found it hard to sharpen (tried 4 different sharpeners), the pencil crumples with the shavings or upon applying on the eye and I end up losing a quarter of the pencil as I can't get any grip on it to sharpen when the pencil gets to low. Terribly disappointed. Please bring back the retractable eyeliner.

Don't waste your money

I have to agree with the other bad reviews. This eye pencil is not user-friendly. When I needed to sharpen it, I took out my Estee Lauder sharpener, and I tried to sharpen it, but it kept breaking off the tip of the eyeliner. This happened several times until I just molded it by hand to use. By the time I get home from work, it is smeared up onto my eyelid as well as my bottom eyelid. Because it will not sharpen well, there is no pointed tip to use to flawlessly apply it after the very 1st application. It catches on every uneven spot on my eyelid as well. I will not be buying this product again.

LOVE THE PENCIL, BUT WILL NOT SHARPEN

I have purchased three (3) Double Wear 24-hour waterproof gel eye pencils. I am not able to sharpen them. I have two Estee Lauder sharpeners, and they both work well with the old wooden pencils that I still have; so, it is not the sharpeners. They sharpen to a fine point the way I prefer. One sharpener is brand new. However, the new gel eye pencils won't sharpen. They just keep turning inside the sharpener or they get stuck. I truly feel that the team who came up with the new gel eye pencil also needs to create a pencil sharpener that is SPECIFIC to a GEL pencil. "Antonette" suggested that I use a Q-tip to clean the inside of the sharpener with your makeup remover. I have done this repeatedly to no avail. The gel pencils just keep turning and won't sharpen. The gel pencil is a good idea, but it's an unfinished product as long as you cannot sharpen it. Once the sharp point dwindles down, it just sits due to its' dull point. Mine remain rounded and unused in a drawer. I love that this gel pencil truly does not smudge. Wonderful product as long as you can use it.

Love/hate this eyeliner

I have purchased this eyeliner twice. I bought the second one not long after the first because I initially loved the product. Unfortunately, the time came when I needed to sharpen it and things went down hill from there. This eyeliner just does not sharpen well. I used 3 different brands of sharpener all with the same result. I probably lost half of the pencil just by sharpening. I should have returned the second one but I loved the product so I used the second one. I tried to sharpen that one today with the same results, half of the pencil is gone. Sadly, I will never purchase this eyeliner again. I've used Estée Lauder forever and this is honestly the first product that didn't meet my expectations.

Old version was ALOT better!

I now go through TWO pencils in the time I would have 1 in the old version. This new version also "melts" when applying. You have to sharpen it after nearly each use. I've tried the estee lauder sharper and others and still have the issue of it not sharpening well. I also find at the end of the day it has creased off in my eyelids. I've tried the other eyeliner too, and nothing compares to the old pencil. I definitely wish they would bring the old version back, as it was definitely alot better product. Big mistake in doing away with it and bringing this out instead.

Very Disappointed in this product ⁰

Really disappointed in this gel eyeliner. I am 71 and have used Estee Lauder products since I was 40. Always superior products. When I first applied I thought this is great, smooth , doesn't skip. But then I needed to sharpen. The sharpener just tore up the wood and leaves a unpointed unusable pencil end. So I looked to see if it needed a special sharpener l didn't see one. So today I bought the Estee Lauder sharpener and it still gave me the same result but with a mess with the shaven pieces. It's a nice applying eyeliner but if you can't sharpen, and lose half your product trying ,what good is that?I would rather have the old pencil eyeliner that you sold for year, always worked, never disappointed.

Why, just why?

Have been buying the Double Wear Stay-in-Place eye-liner in coffee for years, love it. Against my better judgement, I bought its replacement, the cocoa gel eyeliner, won't be doing that again. It smudges and makes a mess of my upper eyelid if I don't dry it with a hair-dryer as soon as applied. It doesn't sharpen like my old fave or have the same appearance.I'm done with EL. This is just one of many products that I loved being discontinued. It's not like it wasn't popular. Half the the time it would be sold out both online and in store. Plenty of other brands have more consideration for their customers, happy to give them a go rather than go through this again.
