Dunlop GCB95F Cry Baby Classic Wah
This comes equipped with true-bypass and a Fasel inductor for a vintage voice. When you think about the classic wah-wah sounds of the 60s, you think about British bluesmen and psychedelic American rockers, not Italy. But those Sunshine-y and Foxey tones could not have existed without the Italian-made Fasel inductors that were in the first wah pedals—including the original Crybaby. These inductors were the key to the pedals' tone, but have been unavailable for years. Not anymore. Your Crybaby Classic with Fasel Inside will faithfully recreate the vocal sweep and lush harmonics from those timeless recordings. Plug in your Crybaby Classic and hear what you've been missing. Features: Heavy die cast construction for years of reliability, 100K ohm Hot Potz potentiometer that allows for that quick, abrupt wah sound. Powered by the optional Dunlop ECB-003 AC Adapter and/or 9 volt battery.

Overall a nice classic wah sound which I prefer and the one I got has no issues. Not my first chioce in wahs however I bought mine more for practice sessions so I dont burn up my preferred wah for performance as it is more costly. No complaints other than I felt it could have maybe a bit more range. Doesnt make a bunch of noise in my chain so that sells me on the fact that If I choose I can trust it in a live performance. More than likely I dont feel I would use it for recording.

This wah, simply put, is a high quality wah. From looking at it, to holding it, to rocking it under your foot, you can feel that this wah is well built. The newer ones are equipped with a "Hot Potz" sealed pontentiometer, furthering it's durability. It has the pronounced mid-rangey tone that one would expect from something labelled as a "classic" wah, and the red fasel inductor really completes it. Being true bypass is an adder bonus too! I urge you all to TRY this pedal. Just because it works for me, doesn't mean it works for you.It features true bypass, and a red fasel inductor, and a sealed "Hot Potz" potentiometer perfect for creating a warm, classic WAH, with increased durability.Built like a tank, inside and out. Don't get me wrong, the Crybaby Classic Fasel Wah is a fantastic pedal. The sound definitely gives off a 60's, 70's kind of feel and is simple to use. But if I were you, I'd spend the extra money and buy the Dunlop Crybaby 95Q, which is $20 more than this pedal. The reason is, that first the Crybaby Classic has a switch. It's a pain. Every time you put your foot on the pedal you have to click the pedal in to activate it. The 95Q is switchless, when you put your foot on and press down on the pedal its automatically on, and it turns off once your foot releases. Also, the 95Q has a lead boost, the classic has nothing but the wah. The 95q allows you to edit tone, etc. of the sound. Overall, both are great pedals but spend the extra 20 bucks. Don't be like me and buy ... MoreDon't get me wrong, the Crybaby Classic Fasel Wah is a fantastic pedal. The sound definitely gives off a 60's, 70's kind of feel and is simple to use. this wah has a good fasel tone and a decent range in the sweep of the pedal. however, when in bypass mode all my lovely tube tone went out the window. i use no other effects just guitar>wah>amp. if you dont care about your general tone, this pedal will work well for you. im not being sarcastic, what i mean is some players want a neutral tone, some examples are high gain, and solid state with heavy effects. this pedal would work fine for those situations. i play classic rock, blues, and jazz. i need a clear unadulterated tone. i do not play high gain nor do i use effects. this pedal is not for me.
Some people are saying "this is a great pedal if you are a Beginner." I think that statement confuses two things. One, that using more features makes you a more advanced player, and the second, an advanced player wouldn't use this pedal. I've been playing for over twenty years, recorded, played live shows, teach music, and consider myself advanced and this pedal still sounds the best to me. To me more features and taming more features does not make you advanced, it just means you've spent more time figuring out the features. What usually happens with features is you tend to find a couple of settings you like and stay in that range. Meaning you've spent more for features you do not use. I'd rather spend my time playing than noodling with knobs in search of tone. That ... MoreSome people are saying "this is a great pedal if you are a Beginner." It allows you a wide enough sweep to have versatility, and to me that takes more effort to learn to do well than a pedal that limits the sweep. Overall, this is just a great pedal for the price.
Great product. Before purchasing this Wah pedal, I was given the opportunity to try it out at the store. The sales person was great and took the time to answer my questions. The sales persons, also helped me come up with a decision to buying my first Wah pedal. Overall, I enjoy this purchase.
The Dunlop Cry Baby is the classic wah pedal and I would highly recommend for the sound and durability. The pedal is bulky and large, which makes it durable and tough, but larger than any of the other pedals that I own (I own Joyo and Boss effects pedals). The pedal itself also feels kind of loose; it would be nice if it was "tighter to the press" for lack of a better description, as in had more of a kick action like you hold it down with your foot to keep it pressed down and then use your heel to de-press it. On the one hand, the pedal's locking in place allows you to keep the wah effect while freeing your foot to do other things, on the other hand, it makes it tough to do consistent back and forth/on and off (like a tremolo) WAH/WAH/WAH/WAH effects.
I bought this because it has true bypass - meaning when it's not in use, it's not affecting the tone. I had an original Cry Baby and it really affected the signal. This is much better and works perfectly.
I've had a good 3 Cry Babys in the past, and I've been happy with all 3. But this Fasel feature attracted my attention, so I went back to the store to exchange my "Classic" for the Fasel hours after the initial purchase, as I realized the latter was available. Construction quality and clarity of sound were noticeable right away. But also an unwanted boost in volume came on the moment I kicked it on. The increase was dry, not really a "gain" with some grit, but just a louder volume that would throw off all my previous settings. The sound just got too loud in an unpleasant way, and I couldn't find any alternative gain/volume settings in the chain to compensate for this and avoid drowning other instruments in the band or mix. Maybe a volume control would be perfect for ... MoreI've had a good 3 Cry Babys in the past, and I've been happy with all 3. Maybe a volume control would be perfect for this otherwise beautiful sounding legend. Sometimes I want less volume for a sound already enhanced by gain based pedals.
I bought this as an alternative to my Vox. I actually like the look and sound of my Vox better. The Vox has the same midsweep to me, but at toe-forward position the Vox has more high-end which I like. That being said, your wah-tone is a personal thing and matter of taste. My 1st was a Crybaby that lasted foreeeeeeever until I changed the pot (maybe the switch, too) and it was good as new again. I sold it when I bought the Vox thinking I didn't want so many wahs lying around the house; I should have kept it. They seem essentially the same, but my Vox was glitchy as the switch failed quickly and the input/output jacks were loose; I changed those, too. I think I had a lemon. So, I ordered the Crybaby and paid a little extra for the Fasel and it's true-bypass, too !It ... MoreI bought this as an alternative to my Vox.
