I was given an 13lt Dometic in xmas 21, for my bicycle tours. Frozen 2lt milk bottle of water, lasted 4 days, for my xmas trip. So happy, that I bought a 42 lt 10 days ago. Put in 4 X 2lt frozen bottles, first day, with nothing else, and they have lasted 9 days, without opening it. Needed this bigger one, so I don't have to take out my portable 3 way fridge, as it is big and heavy. Only needed the ice to last 6 days, as this is the average trip we do with the campertrailer. Great investment!

I used 4x1L frozen water bottles in this esky and they were completely defrosted within 24 hours. Upside is that the food and drinks inside did stay cool enough for the rest of the weekend and it wasn’t even a hot weekend and I pre cooled the esky too. Very disappointing in that their claim says it keeps ice for 3-4 days. The people I was with had the same esky but an earlier model and theirs didn’t keep the ice either. Maybe I should have spent the money on a Kings product at least then you know you get what you pay for.

I was totally misled by BCF staff when I was seeking the best icebox for long fishing trips. I was going to spend $400 on a Yeti until the staff member turned me onto the Dometic and assured me it’ll keep ice solid for 7-10 days! I though ok even if the ice keeps for half that time I’d be happy. So I was also upsold the divider and rack for an additional $50. On the first 2 uses I couldn’t believe how a 4L ice cream container of solid ice could turn to water within 5 hours. I was amazed at how poorly it performed its only task, to keep stuff cold. I’ve owned some cheap crappy eskies but this expensive storage box takes the cake. How long does this company think it can get away with selling boxes that perform worse than a cardboard box in full sunlight? Absolutely ... I'm not into camping but I needed an esky for an event over a weekend. This one was fantastic. The top 3 things I like about it:1. It kept food and drinks really cold and also functioned as a sturdy bench we could rely on.2. It's a really good size for a family of 4 and the optional slip in basket was great for those dry goods that we wanted to keep out of the heat.3. The fact that it is light weight and easy to carry is great!
Good quality but seal is not like the old days or Engel but ok for the price. Keeps the fish cool long enough to get back from the 4wd track. Doesn't leak like a lower quality and cheaper branded box so happy with it. When 40 degrees outside, it'll keep ice for 2-3 days but water will start within hours. Perfect for what i need it for and assume it could last 10 days in winter.

Maybe it was just the learning curve of how to manage an ice box but I did find I was changing ice packs every day and only opening it maybe 3 times a day max as well as situating it in a shady place. I was using 14, 600ml frozen water bottles, with another 14 in the camp freezer. This system did keep the food nice and cold but it would have been good not to have been swapping the bottles out every day. Maybe I didn't have my ice/food ratio correct so I can't blame the ice box entirely but the hype around its efficiency lead to disappointment. People who give it 2-3 starts simply do not understand how such item works.I have used for 3 days in the trip. It can keep the cold well but You must remember: keep the freezing pads really cold, cool the items You put as well, do not have free space. You can use it for sure for 48 h, and after that if needed, YOu can buy exttra (simple) ice and add it - which after melting will turn into water (which you can remove easy).
Took it camping the same day with very little time for pre chilling. Experimented with ice options. Frozen water in milk bottles melts fast as it’s sitting in its own melted water (been frozen all week). Made big ice blocks (using large Tupperware containers) and cracked them out of their moulds and topped up with a bag of ice cubes all the way to the very top! I found the ice cubes clumped around and stuck to the ice blocks on their own forming a giant ice block on the bottom. Lasted the 3 days we went camping sitting in my hatch back that was parked under a tree. Good size for 2-3 people.
Bought one of these on a sale. With under a week of using it the sleeve that the drainage bung screws into came loose and spun around with the bung when tightening and unscrewing causing it to start leaking. Leaked water all over my car interior. BCF were fast to replace it when I took it back to the store.- Only keeps ice for 2 to 3 days max even when inside or shady areas.- Way overpriced for an esky.- It's built tough but even on sale was more than double the price of equivalent size brands.- Can't stack cans 2 high and 1litre wine and 1.25L and 2L soft drink won't stand up.
Well worth it, I bought this as it was the only chilly bin I could find that would fit into our camper in the gap we wanted it. It's sturdy, has nice and flat sides and bottom and fits lots of food into it. I have only used it twice and with relatively small ice packs in it at that, but it has had no issue keeping everything at a cold temperature at the beginning of an NZ summer. I just flip the rubber latches under inside the lid when not in use so it can have some air circulating. I'm definitely going to be buying the accessory pack (basket and divider) for it at some point as well.
