Functionality:I use this device highly looking forward to the Loop Recording feature BUT doesn't work like Dashcams. It will only save say the last 5mins of the recording session, and u can say good bye to the rest. But it has Max option which will save the entire session and chooped into smaller files albiet only if u view it directly into the SD Card via card reader. also do note that the recording session will only be saved once you stop recording which is not really loop recording AND there's high risk of u losing the files if the camera for some reason froze due to maybe overheat. As for audio, the lack of audio settings is a bit dissapointing... like i want to be able to capture pure audio no background noise reduction.Quality:As for the Quality of the image ... MoreFunctionality:I use this device highly looking forward to the Loop Recording feature BUT doesn't work like Dashcams. Had the camera about a week now and I must say I would buy again. It’s small compact has loads of features and to top it all, it goes underwater. The menu’s are easy to navigate and voice control is a useful feature. The three batteries with the combo mean, if required I can shoot all day or use the charger as a power bank. Must admit, I am a DJi fan, I also own the Pocket 2, OM4 and Mavic Mini 2, so, this camera compliments my kit nicely.Any negatives, well somewhere to secure the lens cover would be nice, but other than that, no.What was annoying was, I went back to DJi for a neck strap and they wanted to charge me £5.95 for delivery, so I went somewhere else to purchase. DJi, you should look after loyal customers by offering better incentives, maybe free shipping.

I don't normally write reviews of products I've only been using for a couple of weeks, but sometimes (rarely, I have to say!) there are products that are simply so fantastic that there's no doubt whatsoever about them. This is one of them.I spent a long, long time - months - looking at the various alternatives. You'll have seen the same ones, including the "go-to" brand, of course. DJI had consistently good user reports, with the one doubt being cast about the phone software - security and the need for it to register (and use!) the device - and the lack of software for a PC. So let's consider those before getting to the interesting stuff.I work in information security, so anything like this - especially where China is concerned - leaves me very nervous. So let's consider those before getting to the interesting stuff.I work in information security, so anything like this - especially where China is concerned - leaves me very nervous. It was nearly enough to put me off, but I'm glad it didn't. There are reasonable explanations for the software requirements, though, and both Google and Apple have now added it to their respective stores, after first declining to do so. There is some user control over what the software can do, of course. You *do* need register the device using the app - so you will at least need access to a mobile device - but I don't think there would be any reason why you couldn't just uninstall the app if you want to. Personally, I prefer to edit videos on a PC; I find faffing around with clips using my fingers less than ideal, and the functionality of a phone app is *never* going to be as good as a decent video editing program. However, it depends on you needs and preferred methods of working. The product is not supported with a PC program. This is a shame, but of course there is plenty to choose from, and anything bundled with hardware is probably going to no better than (for example) Clipchamp, which comes installed on Win 11 anyway. Personally, I prefer something better, and use Shotcut, which is open source, and quite superb. The lack of PC software therefore isn't a factor for me.As for the hardware, it's hard to find anything that could be improved. The video (and image) quality is, quite simply, superb - pin-sharp video that when paused looks like a high-resolution photo.Image stabilisation is frankly amazing. I use my camera mainly for road cycling, and the look is just natural - it's only when thinking about it that one notices that there's no bounce or vibration apparent. It just seems perfect. Similarly, low light function is excellent.Audio quality is also superb for an action cam, even without an external microphone - when cycling at 35km/h conversations can be heard very clearly indeed.I have been using action cams for around 14 years, though this is only my third, and is my first for about eight years. They've improved a lot in that time, obviously, but one of the things that had stopped me from making more videos was what I'll describe as useability. The Action 4 is simply such a step - stride! - ahead of what I've used previously that it really just can't be compared. It's one of the things I'd picked up from other reviews, and I agree entirely. the design of the Action 4 is entirely focussed on making it user-friendly. It's quick and easy to mount and detach, so you can switch it between (for example) a selfie stick and a bike mount instantly. Recording can be started or stopped from "off" with one press. It can be started (from an "on" state) by voice activation. Video can be edited or downloaded directly on a phone app, if preferred, as well as (obviously) being copied using copy-and-paste from the SD card. Swapping batteries or cards in the field is simple. These things all combine to improve the device's "useability"; if you're new to action cams, this is going to make a massive difference to how much you enjoy using it, and how much you then *do* use it.As you can probably sense, I'm a fan. I have every confidence that I made a good choice with this camera, and even after only a short time using it I have very few doubts about recommending it.

Better Than GoPro

Have GoPro 8 for several years and one frustration I have is the overheating and extreme cold shut down issue with GoPro. Even in an air conditioned place, if continue recording, GoPro will overheat and shut down. Recent trip to Iceland where temp drop to -12F (~24C), GoPro shuts down at the critical moment of the Geysir spout and other times where it shuts down due to overheat or cold and cause lost of precious video footage where some moments only happen once. Had DJI Action 4 for about 2 months. Compare GoPro 8 which I still have to DJI, both video and photo quality are good to a causal user like me. Advantages DJI have over GoPro is when it gets hot, it continues to record (both DJI and GoPro gets very hot during continues recording); DJI's magnetic quick release adapters make changing from one setup to another SO MUCH easier. DJI has a little better footage when shoot in dark areas vs GoPro. DJI has a better value combo for about the same price as GoPro, DJI combo gives user 3 batteries+charger+selfie stick. The extra batteries will allow recording for a long time with each battery provide continue recording at 1080 60fps last about 50minutes from my experience. DJI provides a better true color than GoPro and has a better wide angle fish eye effect rendering. I haven't had a chance to test the extreme cold condition yet, but so far I like DJI more and I use GoPro 8 I had as my backup recorder. Knock off a star due to DJI Action 4 still gets pretty hot during continues recording.

I needed something to replace GoPro, I got something better

The DJI Action 4 is now my go-to device for recording videos for my YouTube channel. It provides everything I need to make a nice video: 4k resolution, a wide variety of frame rates, and D-Log M 10-bit color. The recent update also provided 10-bit normal color mode if you don't want to mess with raw.It replaces my GoPro 10, which has been a disappointment almost from the first day I used it. While it provides wonderful images, similar to the DJI Action 4, it is the most unreliable, finicky device I've ever used. Needless to say, I'm satisfied! It works as I want it to. The image quality is great; I see no difference between that and what I used to get with the GoPro. This plus its reliability makes it a winner for me.I got the adventure combo. The stick and the 3-battery recharge pack are important to me and I'm glad I chose that combination over some of the others. The only added item I ordered to go with the Action 4 was the Small Rig cage for the camera. For some reason the DJI cage did not have a cold shoe for my Rode wireless mics. The Small Rig cage does the trick.

Its a great little camera, but its really not much different then the Action 3 except for 2 things. The battery life, which is a tad longer then the Action 3 and larger sensor then the Action 3. Which for a night out on the town, is great. What has really sold me on this (which the Action 3 does as well) is the ability to use a wireless mic with out any extra stuff. This means you can use any wireless mic from a $30 cheap-O to the DJI $250 one. VS the Go Pro 12 or Insta 360, with those you have to buy adapters or something proprietary to their system. Another thing I do enjoy about this is the fact I can use all my Action 3 stuff, like the batteries so I dont have to go out and buy more. Vs the something like the Go Pro. Great price, especially getting three batteries in the charging case (didn’t realise so I’d ordered two extra from DJI, thinking I’d only get one for the camera)Easy to set up and to use, even as my first foray into action camera’s.I use this attached to the chin of my motorcycle crash helmet to document rides/trips.Has WAY more options than I need in my limited experience using these but after all my research it, for me, was the best option out of all the options of cameras out there.I have had no problems with overheating as is mentioned in a few reviews, but then I’m travelling at speed and the weather here in the U.K. is quite cool at the moment, the real test will be over in Germany & Austria in July/August for that.Battery is good but could be better ... MoreGreat price, especially getting three batteries in the charging case (didn’t realise so I’d ordered two extra from DJI, thinking I’d only get one for the camera)Easy to set up and to use, even as my first foray into action camera’s.I use this attached to the chin of my motorcycle crash helmet to document rides/trips.Has WAY more options than I need in my limited experience using these but after all my research it, for me, was the best option out of all the options of cameras out there.I have had no problems with overheating as is mentioned in a few reviews, but then I’m travelling at speed and the weather here in the U.K. is quite cool at the moment, the real test will be over in Germany & Austria in July/August for that.Battery is good but could be better and a 128Gb micros SD card only holds about a couple of hours footage at the lowest settings and if you’re doing 4K at 120fps then about 20 mins or so (so more and larger capacity SD cards on the horizon). The pack I bought had the camera, a protective cage for it, a selfie stick type apparatus, the battery charge case (this does NOT charge the batteries itself, as I thought when I purchased hence the missing star) but enables you to plug in via a cable to a power bank or a mains plug to charge all three batteries at once, once charged you could then use the fully charged batteries to put some charge into a phone or something else.Reliability is good so far after probably a couple hundred miles of use (not on all the time obviously) you can have the charge lead into the camera so I COULD then leave on until the SD card was full or it overheated and turned off but I just turn it on when I think it’ll be interesting. But time will truly tell about reliability (again hence the missing star from rating)Hope this ramble helps.

Front selfie screen is a touch screen! (GoPro 12 had a no-touch front screen that's pretty useless when you need to vlog.)I highly recommend buying the Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo just to get the Wireless Mic II to use with the Osmo Action 4. The Pocket 3 complements the Action 4 perfectly with an amazing 1 sensor and a fantastic 3-axis gimbal with smart face tracking features when you need better image quality and doesn't run the risk of destroying the gimbal.Forget the GoPro, Forget the Insta360 8K camera (who needs 8K anyway?) Kudos to DJI for designing a winning action cam. There are no cons that I can find, besides a lack of on-camera tripod mount...
