What seemed like a good idea WAS NOT.I wish I could return it . I don’t think I could give it away if someone tried it first . Much better off with smaller more dedicated unit. Way to heavy . I can’t imagine a short person trying to use this . No! NO! NO !!!

Mine broke within 10 seconds of first use cutting through a hedge that my old plastic $50 black and decker would have chewed through no problem for hours on end. The gears in the gearbox no longer engage. After a quick investigation It looks to me like an engineering problem where the gears are held together only by a loose pressure fit. It seems I am not alone with this problem as it is extensively reported on the internet by others.

Not the quality that I would expect from DeWalt. I was trimming my hedges for the first time. It broke in the first 30 minutes of use. It appears that a gear has broken internally so the blades no longer work. I would recommend that Home Depot remove this accessory from their online store.

I’ve got a ton of DeWalt tools and all are great and dependable however, this is the first time that I’ve had an out of box failure with anything from them (hello China??) There is a disconnect between the square drive end that goes in the power head and the gears. Basically we have a drive train failure. I’m an engineer and have checked everything and my findings point to the gear box which I’m not willing to fix since I just got this thing today. I’ll return this hedge trimmer and give them another shot with a replacement because I’m so deep in Dewalt tools and batteries that trying a new brand would be like reinventing the wheel for me, I guess we’ll see if this unit is worth keeping.
Bought the trimmer last year and it worked ok. This year it just died part way through the trim. Power doesn't get through the connections to the blades. Seems like a stripped gear. I expected better, very disappointed.
I used this to trim my house once at the end of the season. It worked great and I liked the swivel head feature. When I got it out at the beginning of the next season it stopped working almost immediately. The power head works great with my other attachments so it is something in the head that let loose. I have checked to to make sure its not jammed and I never abused it. After some research online I decided to take it apart to find the problem. It has a ring and pinion gear that connects the shaft to the cutting head. The retainer that holds the pinion gear has failed and I do not see any way of fixing it. I have heard a few people having the same problem so it would appear they have a design or manufacturing problem. The most frustrating part is that I have only ... I sent customer support an email but I have yet to hear anything back. Good idea. Bad product. Worse customer service.
The purchase of the Dewalt Hedge Trimmer attachment model# DWOAS8HT was an experiment to speed up cutting away weeds along an approximately 1/8 mile long lateral irrigation water supply ditch.Dewalt Hedge Trimmer attachment model# DWOAS8HT on the weed trimmer with the shoulder strap works well but the stationary blade opening of just over 1/2 inch (not 3/4”), is much smaller than the hand held model# DCHT820B. In Homedepot info both are advised as having a blade opening of 3/4 inch.
Works great. I find it much easier to get good straight, level shapes in the hedges using this hedge trimmer attachment for the string trimmer as opposed to a short, hand held hedge trimmer only. Functions well and cuts great. I had noticed according to the description it will cut branches 3/4". Unless I'm missing something, that's not possible when the teeth on the blade are 7/16" apart. Never expected to use it for anything that thick anyway, and it works great for my hedges. Love DeWalt brand quality. Every DeWalt tool I've purchased so far has been so impressive, if any one of them broke, I would replace it with the same immediately.
Bought this hedge trimmer attachment for the 60v weed wacker and it’s been working great so far. Use it on hedges, as intended, and there should be no problems. Thicker brush will probably need the brush cutter or chain saw attachments. Nice that I can swap these attachments on the same base when doing my yard. Saves time and space.
At the Church we have huge hedges the length of the Sanctuary that we have to trim twice a year. half way through trimming one it started making a funny noise. only worked after noise in one position, others did not work at all. It sounds like some gears stripped out. Luckly the place I bought it from said bring it back and they will replace it due to under 90 days since I bought it, so I don't have to go through the service part of this website. One thing I do love about it though is the ease of putting the trimmer at different angles. love the design but durability was not so good.
