I used it in one of my Posh coloring books and it is dreamy! So happy I picked up that color. I got the Sea Green and it is just as lovely however, it is really the same as the Prisma's Aquamarine. It is a bigger barrel but not uncomfortable -- and mixed in the cup with my prisma's, it isn't trying to draw all the attention (a pun-?).One side of the prisma's sharpener does work for this pencil and gives it a great point. They go down very close to the same as the prisma in my opinion, aside from the dusting which prisma can do sometimes too, but not as much. The Sea Green and the Prisma Aquamarine feel the same going down. The Sea Green dusted; the prisma didn't. The Derwent may be holding the point a little longer, but not by much. The Prisma might be just a little creamier but not by much (and not at all by much with that Acid Yellow). The pencils are comparable for creaminess.I am deducting one point because of the flecking that is occurring although, it really seems to be happening mostly on the Loganberry. The Acid Yellow doesn't fleck at all but all of the other four colors do -- Loganberry does the most, every time and a lot.I was able to layer all of the colors on top of each other with no problem.I would be very willing to try more colors from this line in hopes of trying to find something different. Overall, I think it is a very nice pencil.

I love Coloursoft pencils. The laydown is smooth, the pigment is vibrant leaving the colored object looking great. There is a little bit of scratchiness when you first begin coloring but that subsides once you get started. The barrel is thicker than some pencils, but I find that aids in the grip of the pencil while coloring, They sharpen well, have the color name and number on the barrel of the pencil. They're great for shaing an have a decent blending capabilities. Also, they play well with other pencils. Bonus, they are also open stock. That allows the individual to purchase a specific color without having to repurchase the whole set for one pencil or the set can be built as needed.

I ordered about 20 open stock pencils. 5 of them had the leads broken. It wasn't just the tips, it was the whole end down past the wood. At first, I figured it was just my bad luck, but I also noted that they were very poorly packaged. Other pencils I have ordered have had the tips protected. These pencils were just in the thin plastic bag and stuck in a padded envelope, which didn't seem very padded, and the tips were at the opening end of the envelope where the padding is thinnest. The ones I got before had something wrapped around the ends. When I sharpened the first one and saw how short it looked compared to the other new ones, I decided to make a call. The person that I dealt with one the phone was very friendly, which automatically made me less irritated. ... MoreI ordered about 20 open stock pencils. 5 of them had the leads broken. Then she said the pencils would be replaced and that I didn't have to mail the other ones back. This made me even happier because I wasn't going to have to pack them up and make a trip to the post office (which I hate doing). The replacement pencils arrived less that a week later and were in perfect shape. You don't always know what you're getting into when you order online, and it's nice to know that I can recommend Dick Blick to everyone based on quality, price, and customer service!

Great soft pencils with lots of color saturbation
12 November 2022

I ordered the Blackberry and Deep Red Coloursoft pencils to try 'em out. It turns out that I love them. They're soft and creamy with lots of color - even when using them on smooth paper and putting no pressure at all, you get good color and good coverage. No breakage at all, crumbs only if you use more pressure on them than I ever use. I'm very happy with the colors themselves.Btw, I emailed Derwent, who tells me that their pencils don't use heavy metals like Cadmium or Cobalt in any of their pencils. .The only thing I didn't like about these pencils is that they're thicker than other pencils - probably the same as Derwent Inktense or Holbein colored pencils, but that's just personal preference.I'm glad I tried these. When they get down to about 3 inches they keep breaking. This has happened with every color. I have changed blades and they still break.VERY DISAPPOINTING! You get about 3 quarters of us from thepencils. I use Procolor, Polychromes, Blick and Pablo pencils with absolutely no problem like these. On the good side...they have great colors and color nicely...if only you could get the full use!

I love these pencils, mostly...
12 December 2021

I spend a lot of time in my coloring books. I have a boatload of pencils from various manufacturers. This line of pencils are so nice to work with. They feel so smooth and rich and creamy as I use them. The colors are intense and blend and layer so well. Unfortunately, I have found that some of them either break repeatedly when sharpening or were already broken in the barrel. I have tried several different sharpeners with the same result for these several colors. Luckily, I can -and recently did- order individual replacements for those that have been reduced to nubs. I will continue to do so because I like using these so much! I'm a fan of all of the Derwent Coloursoft pencils.
28 January 2023

I'm a huge fan of all of the Derwent Coloursoft pencils. I use them in conjunction with my acrylic paints and they are perfect for drawing at any stage. Soft enough to lay down on top of already painted surfaces, yet rigid enough to stick around as bright, finished marks. The light colors are soft and opaque enough to mark over dark paint and visa versa.

Soft but may lack the opacity of Prismacolors
27 August 2021

Take this review with a grain of salt as I only purchases two colors, but I expected more opacity from these pencils. The reviews I watched and read touted these as being very comparable to Prismacolors, but I personally I didn't find that to be the case. The Prismacolors blend more easily and are more opaque, although again I only purchased two colors and even within the Prismacolor range there ranges of opacity. I would recommend trying them yourself as they are larger and sturdier than the Prismacolors, I'd certainly say they are of a superior build quality. Not my favorites but others might like them.#sweepstakes

Wonderful Pencils. Hate the Bar Code Sticker
22 January 2023

I love these pencils!!! But I absolutely hate how the bar code sticker is at the end of the pencil. It is an aggravation pulling the sticker off before sharpening the pencil. Otherwise the sticker gets stuck in the pencil sharpener and messes up the point. It is just an unnecessary step to the artistic process that is totally avoidable and easily fixed. Stop doing this!
