Dell 27" Hub Monitor Review

We recently trialed the Dell P2722HE in attempt to declutter the user's workspace. Very impressed so far. We combined the hub monitor with another dell standard P2722H monitor and a latitude 5440. The built in hub helps to clean up the user's desktop and all three products worked together seamlessly. Monitors have clean sharp displays. There is very small outer bezel on these screens giving a very modern look. All in all, if you're after a solid, versatile monitor for work, the Dell P2722HE does the job.

Took some getting used to but i like the curved design for viewing. It has a crisp and clear image especially using video. The internal speakers work very well, no distortion or echo. It has plenty of inputs for connected devices and the usb-c hub connection provides power and charges my laptop when using. I do prefer usb ports on the side of the monitor for connecting flashdrives, etc but this display has one usb-c and one usb port on the bottom. The display's height adjustment and pivoting make it easy to adapt to different setups. Overall very pleased with this display.

This is a great concept, but seems to have a couple kinks that need to be worked out.• First off, for a 27" monitor, having a higher pixel count would be preferred. The standard 1920x1080 looks good, but everything is a little bigger than I'd like. Not really a negative, just a personal preference.• Having the ability to use the USB ports on the monitor, when the computer is disconnected, would be a huge plus for charging accessories like mice, headsets, or phones.• Decent for a laptop that uses a 65W power adapter, but still requires additional power for higher performance laptops.• Not really easy to set up. I ended up losing about 3 hours of time trying to get this set up.Since this is something we are looking to deploy to our users, I initially just ... MoreThis is a great concept, but seems to have a couple kinks that need to be worked out.• First off, for a 27" monitor, having a higher pixel count would be preferred. This was 1 of a tri-monitor setup. It worked okay at first, but after about 20 minutes, my system slowed to an unusable state. I ran updates and downloaded drivers and software. This helped a bit, but it took a couple rounds of downloads and restarts to get the system to work properly again.I don't have a typical setup. This monitor is connected through a Dell Dock using USB-C, an additional monitor is connected using the passthrough on the P2722HE, and a third is connected directly through the dock.Currently, I have two issues with this hub monitor:1. I keep getting an error that states "The USB device recently connected, failed to load"2. When the system goes to sleep, it wakes up needing a coffee. The speed is almost unusable and I have to perform a complete restart to get it to operate normally.I am an IT technician with over 20 years of experience. I build, image, and deploy systems on a regular basis. I was excited about the prospects of having a monitor with a built in "hub" that would allow for a dual monitor setup. Unfortunately, if I deployed this to a user, it would be a nightmare to help them get setup. I can't even use it as a testing station because it requires software to be able to function properly. Maybe a simple setup with a laptop that doesn't require the additional power (240W for my current laptop), would work better?

Great in theory - mixed issues in practice
27 November 2023

We've deployed a handful of these monitors. They work great in general, but sometimes they will simply stop displaying an image and complain of no video input from the laptop over USB-C. This happens on Macbooks and Dell Windows laptops. It's rare and doesn't happen on all of them, but requires a hard power cycle of the monitor (unplug power cord, etc). It's intermittent enough that tech support can't do much, and rare enough that it's not worth trying to replace them.

Great looking monitor, minor complaints about random internet disconnects / ethernet drivers
5 December 2022

Great looking monitor, minor complaints about default ethernet driver settings, as the adapter keeps going to sleep using default config. Have to disbale idle power saving from device manager. https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Intermittent-Ethernet-Wired-connection-Issue-in-Dell-Latitude/m-p/8068595/highlight/true#M37448. Easy enough of a fix, surprised it has not been addressed yet, other than that its a great display. My only wish for a future version of this monitor would be for built in audio, as now it requires a USB audio adapter if you want only one plug back to your laptop.

Great monitor, but potential issue with MacBooks
15 August 2021

Great monitor. High quality, works perfectly on my home office setup, and the daisy chain feature worked just as expected on a Windows laptop (even when connecting to a similar but older Dell 24-inch model). Also kudos to the packing, almost no plastics used. The USB-C connection works good with a MacBook too, so no need to use the Mac's power supply anymore. A weird issue happens sometimes, however, when I have two monitors connected via USB-C and the MacBook enters sleep mode. After waking up, the P2722HE monitor does not recognize the signal coming from the MacBook anymore. If I force it by turning the monitor off/on again or unplug/reconnect the USB-C cable, the MacBook crashes and reboots. Still not sure if this is a Mac or a monitor issue.

In every condition it looks good and worthy for penny

The monitor features brightness levels of 300 cd/m², which is suitable for those who will be using this monitor indoors. I would have preferred the monitor to be just a tad bit brighter, but that’s just me. Those looking into purchasing this hub should be ok with brightness levels if they’re working on spreadsheets or any other documents. Whites are plenty bright but not too blinding to cause discomfort, and blacks are dark enough while not appearing too gray.

Not 4K. My mistake.
6 April 2024

Great product, the usb connectivity is first class. My only disappointment is with myself in that I didn’t realise that these were not 4K. The Dell website heading refers to 4K however when you drill down the 4K capability is an optional upgrade model. Therefore for the price this model is not great value against competitors. Luckily I only use for business and not graphics heavy activities.

The one monitor you need for a workstation
11 March 2024

This monitor is our "Go To" monitor for our mobile workforce. During the pandemic we mobilized out workforce to be anywhere at any time. Fussing with docking stations and differing hardware connections was frustrating for the IT team. Once we unified to the P2722HE monitors. Our issue with connectivity and traveling users went away. Being able to hot desk and be mobile even within the same office complex is a blessing. The quick assembly and monito arm options available make this a one stop monitor for our office.

Works ok with multiple OS, setings joystick issues

Older Dell monitors from the same family had more buttons that allowed me to get to menus even when inputs are not detected. To get some older computers or non-pc computers to detect this monitor, you cannot rely on automatic settings.2) The settings joystick. Dell, if you are reading this review, get rid of the joystick and go back to multiple buttons. The joystick constantly sticks and the rapidly goes through multiple options. I hate having to go through multiple menus, multiple times for what used to be a single button push.3) sleep mode. There needs to be a better way to disable it. Monitor does not wake up when computer it is attached to goes to sleep. Joystick is useless. Older monitors at worse allowed you to wake by touching power button. This model requires you to unplug the power cable just to wake it up sometimes.
