I brought this SSD as an upgrade for a very slow desktop machine that still had an old hard spinning drive installed. It was taking over 5 minutes to boot (the hard drive was constantly running at 100%).This made it very frustrating to use as an everyday computer. After installation, the machine ran very fast with just 7 seconds from power on to fully logged in and ready to use.It is literally like a Rocketship now. This upgrade has extended the life of this PC and my mother-in-law couldn't be happier.Would not hesitate to recommend this as good value with excellent performance.

Be warned, after ~3200 GB of hostwrites the drive write speeds become abysmal (15 to 20 mbit/s; SSDs should be exceeding 400 mbit/s at minimum).I bought the Crucial BX500 at the end of November 2022 and had it for about 7 or so months now before returning it. My time with this SSD was actually fairly positive until very recently that is until it reached it's "threshold" of hostwrites then my Windows installation took shockingly long to boot and this was when after troubleshooting I realized the drive was at fault after a lengthy process. It's performance after this moment is worse than any mechanical hhd I ever had. This slow down without warning, makes me wary with Crucial's products from now on even for a DRAMless SSD this is shocking and unacceptable compared to ... MoreBe warned, after ~3200 GB of hostwrites the drive write speeds become abysmal (15 to 20 mbit/s; SSDs should be exceeding 400 mbit/s at minimum).I bought the Crucial BX500 at the end of November 2022 and had it for about 7 or so months now before returning it. Pro: low unit cost per GB storageCons: Slow write time; especially when moving large chunk (5GB+) at once. Transfer speed gets down to as low as 20 MB/s (slower than a spinning hard drive with 60-80 MB/s) with burst of 200-300 MB/s.The write speed profile is in wave form (up and down) throughout the write process. Typical SSD has a fairly flat write profile (no slowdown to 20 MB/s once in a while).Drive is relatively new (less than a month old) and empty (less than 200GB out of 2TB capacity). From this experience, I will not consider getting another Crucial drive. It is a terrible deal even at the low cost....

Great Value, with Extra Bonus!

This SSD replaced a drive that was clicking, ("the click of death"). The old drive back up and restore worked flawlessly to this new drive. Extra bonus! The laptop runs very cool now, before it was real warm on the bottom. Much faster as expected, and silent. The third HD I've installed in this machine. It is used in travel, bouncing around in the truck, exposed to the cold or hot of the weather. Sometimes direct sun as equipment I work on is exposed. I'm thinking this one should last the life of this machine.

Great product, watch out during cloning process

I bought two of these for two different older Win10 computers with spinning hard drives that were degrading, making the computers very slow. First was my wife's nearly 9 year old laptop. First attempt at cloning drive failed because the computer shut itself off during the process. Be sure to go into power settings and disable automatic shutdown or sleep mode. Once I did that the cloning succeeded. Second PC was a desktop with a 250GB spinning drive. The SSD is 1 TB. Using the cloning wizard, it wanted to create a 217 GB Windows partition (same size as it was on the spinning drive) and it wanted to blow up the recovery partition to well over 700 GB. Using the cloning wizard, it wanted to create a 217 GB Windows partition (same size as it was on the spinning drive) and it wanted to blow up the recovery partition to well over 700 GB. Well, that's stupid! It should have kept the recovery partition the same size and increased the Windows partition as much as possible. So I halted the cloning and restarted it in manual mode, which allows changing the partition sizes. In manual mode the cloning software made the correct suggestion: it kept the recovery partition and two small mysterious partitions the same sizes that they were on the hard drive, and it increased the Windows partition to 871 GB. So I accepted those sizes and did the cloning. Why couldn't the wizard have figured that out? Bottom line - pay attention during the cloning process to make sure the wizard isn't doing something dumb. Both computers are now running much faster than before. My wife is delighted with her new laptop. She says it is now super-fast. B&H sale price was great with free two day delivery.

Review for 1TB Crucial BX500, 2.5" SSD, 7mm, SATA

At the suggestion of my neighbour's son, who advised me that it would be beneficial to replace the hard drive on my laptop with an SSD he looked on this website to find the correct one. (He'd already taken the back off my laptop to look at the size of the hard drive). Obviously he knew what he was doing as he has a degree in this sort of thing. He told me which one to order, and it arrived the very next day. He then came over and replaced the hard drive with the SSD which just slotted into the same place. My computer had become really slow and I can't believe the improvement. Before this, every day I was having to put my computer on and go and do something else while I waited for it to boot up. My computer had become really slow and I can't believe the improvement. Before this, every day I was having to put my computer on and go and do something else while I waited for it to boot up. I don't think I would have been able to do this myself because I don't know that much about computers, only how to use one, but someone with knowledge of how they actually work would probably be able to do this. I'm now thrilled with my computer's performance.

So far, so good

So far, I am happy with this purchase. It was a quick replacement for my PC's 3.5" spinning HDD. Luckily, the existing mounting bracket has holes for a 2.5" drive. (The adapter I bought with this drive didn't fit...but I was able to use the screws that were included...so I was OK with the $6 investment).I tried using the migration software on the Crucial website for moving my existing install to the new SDD...but it never worked. It took several hours to make the copy and then several hours of Windows trying to "fix" itself before I gave up and made a clean install. Luckily, Microsoft links the Windows license to something in the core hardware and not the drive as the activation worked without a hitch.

The best of the breed.

Reliable fast and with excellent data stabilty this drive is above its WD or Seagate peers. Great design and hi-performance- 600Mb/S can be acheived on a decent motherboard in bursts. For those who 'don't trust' NVME reliability- parity failures- overheating (except the hi-end ones with heatsinks and fans) or longevity these drives are a must or data and game storage. To be honest a NVME performance only in burst mode is aster but on hot days- can be the same. A great update for newer systems that lack decent NVME or you just want a reliable data storage drive this is the one. This should have a 3 year warranty and all of my drives have well outlasted this.
