Wonderful price for individually wraped product! I purchased for use at our church shen a mmeber was seeking light weight dough to use for a crafg to be hung on the wall. This product is light weight from start to finish. It air dries so there is no added work. We used a few drops of food coloring to make different colors too. But if youre planning this, expext pastels. With more than a few drops it becomes sticky and very tacky to use and does not get much darker in color. Individual wrapers meant the kids could use it as needed through the year. It was a mess free fun product that lasted and the kids love!

Model Magic is by far, my students favorite medium. They love that they can make something, change their minds, or make a mistake, and it's forgiving nature lets them start again. I have used it in the art classroom to support core curricula of science, history, language arts, and of course my own art standards. We recently created animals over chenille stem armatures, lids for canopic jars, and insect bodies. I love the cleanup, none!

I love the small packets so for a classroom so that each student gets an equal-sized piece. Model magic is a great starter clay or practice clay-an excellent product but a little expensive.#sweepstakes

Great for intro to 3d lessons. Use marker or paint to add color before or after drying. Lots of possibilities. Very small amount though and more expensive than clay
Very light weight compared to air-dry clay, but dries very slowly. Using it to make a puppet head, cuz air-dry clay is too heavy. You can get pretty good detailing for a play-doh like craft medium, but it does shrink a bit during drying. At least it gives you some time to reshape and fix before it sets. Takes about 5 days to fully dry depending on thickness, and its soft and sturdy enough to take a light beating. Also, colors can bleed a bit and it does crack a little during drying. It has a bit of a tackiness at first to it when applying, so when you put pieces together, it sticks and bonds a bit. Needs air to dry, so if you covered it with a mold or plastic, it won't dry by the covered area, nice if you want to still work or apply other pieces. This is the first time I've used Crayola's Model Magic in the classroom. I'm in therapeutic arts and wanted to do some 3-D work for sensory, tactile, small muscle manipulation. Having individual packets with equal amounts works great. It warms to the hands rapidly. Once warmed, is easy to manipulate. It is NOT sticky and the general rules of joining parts together are the same as clay. Also, a big plus is that it doesn't rob moisture from your hands! It is self- drying, requires no baking or firing at all. Plus, it takes about two days to dry (depending on thickness), so the participant doesn't have to deal with any drying crumbling compound while working with it. When it dries, it is remarkably light weight and not at all brittle. Great product. Crayola always ... MoreThis is the first time I've used Crayola's Model Magic in the classroom. Crayola Model magic is a great alternative to real clay. This product is a great way to introduce students to clay and in an economical way. Model magic is easy for younger students to work with and does not require an oven or Kiln to set it. (air dry). Once dried this product can be painted, or colored with marker. The option of small 1 oz packages makes it easy to give each student the exact same amount without any preparation on the teachers end.-Air drying-Easy clean up- Can be colored- paint or marker- great for introduction to clay- good price for amount of productUsed for projects such as: Day of the dead skeletons/skulls, snowman in a "snowglobe", flowers, etc
I use this product for all my grades-K-4 but I especially like it for my K-1. You don't have to worry about it getting on their clothes, hair, the table or the floor. There is NO mess with this!! I also like this product for a quick project with my older students for the same reasons. There just isn't any mess to it. It is easy to paint when dry and it dries within 24 hours! If I could get by with it I would only use this type of clay but students need the experience of the real messy clays as I am told. I recommend this product to all my teacher friends including classroom teachers not just art teachers!!
I thought that this product was clay, but it isn't. I may have read the description too quickly (as I had read about 20 other clay product descriptions that day), but I didn't realize that it was a foam type product. My children are studying ancient history, and wanted to create tablets with cuneiform writing on them. With this foam type clay it didn't work very well, as the wedged writing was impossible to carve into the tablet (wet or dry) because it's so foamy and soft. So, the kids just made markings that looked like cuneiform the best way they could. It turned out okay, and I guess the only good thing is, now that they are dry, they won't break easily. I gave the product a 3 because it is a good product, just not for projects that you'd usually use traditional ... MoreI thought that this product was clay, but it isn't. I gave the product a 3 because it is a good product, just not for projects that you'd usually use traditional clay to make. I think the product description should include that it is not used as traditional clay. Also, even though it is dry, it does not carve very easily as the description also says. My last point is that it was a little pricey for clay (in my opinion), but I thought it was just really good quality. In conclusion, it definitely was not what I though it was, and we were not able to do the project as it should have been done, but it was okay. I'd say this stuff would be very useful and fun with preschoolers.
I am a big fan of modeling clay. When I taught pre-k and Kindergarten aged children, it was the very best "rainy day" or "nothing seems to be working today" activity. My own children loved squishing, rolling, and shaping things with clay. Traditional modeling clay and play clay (homemade and commercially made) was the thing to use! It was fun and entertaining, but also messy and, in some cases, stinky. Crayola Model Magic is just what the name implies, "Magic!" I have no idea how it is made, but it is feather light, dries in a day (small thin objects), and from the time you remove it from its package, it is soft pliable and playable. Even children as young as two can roll it out, squish it, pound it and make something. It is glitterable, paintable, crayonable, and ... MoreI am a big fan of modeling clay. When there is some left over, I make little animals out of it, squash it and make another. It makes a great stress reliever, as well. Great product and Blick makes the fun more affordable! I am now a permanent Blick customer!!!PS: the grandchildren make ornaments with cookie cutters and two days later filled their tree in my house with their very colorful creations! Again, thanks for the bargain!
