DeWalt DWS780 1675 W 3800 RPM
With the electric DEWALT DWS780-QS radial arm saw, you can easily saw laminate, baseboards, and window frames to size. Saw large planks and bars of up to 303mm wide and 345mm deep. Even when you saw at an angle (miter), you can saw large pieces with the 212mm cutting depth without problems. This way, you can even connect thick bars in an angle. You can saw all miter cuts without turning your workpiece, because the saw head tilts to the left and right. Your workpiece also remains firmly in place thanks to the table extension, and you can saw straight with the shadow line. The DWS780-QS has a 6m long cord, so you have a lot of freedom of movement.

This was my first purchase from Acme tools, and will likely be my last. In March of 23' they shipped me this saw. It was manufactured in 21' and had a recall back in 8/22. Dewalt pulled all of these saws from the shelves, and yet, this saw was shipped to me 8 months later. Now, after only a few weeks of using the saw, I'm having to build a box, box it up and send it back to Dewalt and wait for a replacement in the middle of a huge project. Acme, you were going to be my go to for tools, but after this incident, I will buy elsewhere. You shipped very quickly, but this is a huge disappointment. Thank God the XPS stopped working yesterday and I had to call Dewalt, because I could have been seriously injured.

I needed a miter saw upgrade to replace my 20yr old cheapie. I'm a software engineer, so I don't use daily, but I'm all about DIY. I was excited about getting a really good saw after making do for so long. I researched and the thing that drew me to this model was the Cutline/xps system. I wanted to be able to make cuts with less chance of error. What I didn't like about it is how far the slide and dust port stick out of the back. It needs to be far away from anything behind it to operate.Otherwise, it was a great upgrade. The cutline was great. But note that I said 'was'.I've owned it for 6 weeks now, and obviously very limited use. I cut a few pieces of wood with it; haven't even done any big projects and the light went out. Useless without it, and that light is the entire reason this model is ~$200 more than the model below it.I sent a request to customer service about how to get a new light. I was expecting them to say, "That shouldn't happen! What is your address, we'll send you a new one!"Instead, I was given a link to their part store to buy a new light. That LED might have had a total of 15 minutes of runtime, if that. Obviously defective. My whole garage is yellow (well at least the tools are).I've always felt confident making purchases from Dewalt, but as of late, it seems the quality is suffering; but I do understand, sometimes defects happen. In that case, honoring the warranty and sending me a $4 light would have me leaving an entirely different review. It is a shame. I really like this saw, but I paid a premium to get that light. And it doesn't even work! At least the Led replacement wasn't expensive. I bought it and I'll move on. But these are the things that keep people from being brand-loyal.

The saw was a great tool until recently when he blade caught a piece of window stop that had been cut off causing the blade to deflect into the kerf plate. Scared the crap out of me and my helper. Long story short noticed the cuts were off, replaced the blade and the issue remained. Turns out it appears the spindle is bent and I get .04" run out on a 12" blade. Checking multiple sites part # 393702-00SV which seems to be used on every Dewalt mitre saw is discontinued. How can a part on a fairly new saw already be discontinued? Especially when it's used on multiple models. Dewalt service told me I could trade it in for $200 off a new saw. Very disappointed in Dewalt since I own circular saws, drills, and other tools. It's an absolute beast of a saw, and I now have six of these for my crew guys. They last forever in the harshest of conditions, they're built like tanks and are seemingly indestructible. If there's ever a component failure, every part - down to the tiniest screw - is available immediately, off-the-shelf. The machine will do anything from rough crosscutting of railway sleepers, to performing perfect, delicate mitre cuts on superfine mouldings, all with total accuracy, and with full adjustability for those times when it's been bashed about onsite for a few months and has been knocked slightly out of square. The XPS LED light system is infinitely better than any laser line, since it shows you exactly where the outer edge of the blade tooth is going to land, and thus ... MoreIt's an absolute beast of a saw, and I now have six of these for my crew guys. The XPS LED light system is infinitely better than any laser line, since it shows you exactly where the outer edge of the blade tooth is going to land, and thus allows cuts which are absolutely, totally accurate. They're just the most robust, reliable and well-built mitre saws out there. Two major downsides, though -1) They're bone-crunchingly heavy. It's the kind of machine which you want to bring to the job, get rigged up on the stand - and leave it there. It's absolutely NOT best suited to jobs where lots of stairs are involved, or for work in areas where there isn't enough room to swing a cat. For small-scale 2nd fix and trim work, get yourself a 190mm Makita LS0714 instead (or ideally - as well as). Expensive - but 100% the absolute best small mitre saw out there. And ....2) The dust extraction is absolutely hopeless, even when hooked up to an £800 M-Class Festool extractor running at maximum speed with a 36mm hose. If you have lots of large-scale cutting to do - be prepared to stop every 10 minutes to vacuum up the vast piles of sawdust which are lathered all over the floor, the stand, and both the bed and base of the saw.If you can live with these two downsides - it's fabulous. If you can't - your only realistic alternative is a Festool Kapex which is lighter and has state-of-the art dust extraction ........... but which also comes with a list of alternative downsides five times bigger than the above. Hope that helps.
A little over two years ago when we moved into our new house, I retired my 23-year-old miter saw (another brand) and I started looking for a replacement. I wanted a double bevel, 12" compound miter saw to use for trim, wood flooring, and cabinet construction. I need something durable and that could be installed into a custom built 12-foot-long miter saw station with cabinets that I planned on building. Having read multiple magazine and online reviews and talking to various contractors in our neighborhood and several that work on our home, the DeWalt DWS780 kept coming up as the recommended saw.My previous miter saw had a laser cut line that would sometimes get out of alignment, but I thought I had to have on my replacement saw. The DWS780 does not offer a laser cut line but has what DeWalt calls a “Cutline Blade Position System.” There is a light source above the blade that casts a shadow onto your material. I was dubious at first but have grown to like it better than the laser. There is no adjustment. Just bring the blade down to the material and you can clearly see the kerf line. Change the blade, and unlike the laser, the kerf line is perfectly aligned.I have used it extensively on the DWX723 heavy duty stand, which is a must-have accessory if you plan on using it on a job site. I am in the process of building my miter saw station now and look forward to having it as an "installed" tool in the miter station. Now for it's one minor flaw. Dust collection. In general, dust collection on miter saws is difficult at best. The DWS780 miter saw dust collection uses a small "chute" at the back of the saw blade with a long 1 ½” tube that extends to the back of the slides and exits parallel to the saw blade. The saw comes with a bag or you can attach a 1 1/2" shop vac hose to the back tube. While the bag does collect dust, it leaves quite a bit on the bed of the saw. Using a shop vac or a high CFM dust collection system with it doesn’t do much better. The collection tube also extends the already deep depth of the tool – not an issue on a stand, but in a built-in miter station, required my base cabinets to be an extra 5” deep to account for the vacuum hose sticking out the back. A shorter tube with a 90 degree elbow that doesn’t extend past the slides would have been better, but really only affects it in an installed situation. While I would have preferred a better dust collection solution, it would not stop me from buying this saw again, but based on my experience with DeWalt quality, I’ll have this saw for the rest of my life.
Work light failed after 1 use and I've been getting the runaround for 3 months trying to get it fixed. The owners manual directs you to the web portal which is a joke, and there's no phone number to call. In the meantime I'm stuck with a $600 paperweight that I was able to use exactly once and I can't get it fixed. To add insult to injury, this model is being sold to the public with an active (serious) safety recall that you're not informed about until you register the warranty. Never again Dewalt. I've got half a mind to throw this piece of garbage through your corporate HQ window. It should be a crime to push this trash on the public, then treat them as if you didn't just steal their money.
Always wanted to splash out on a decent sliding mitre saw so thought I'd break the bank and ordered myself the Dewalt as I was fitting skirting and facings around the house. The cutting of the machine was superb. Although I was coming from a cheap alternative.I then started to use the sliding motion of the saw and it was absolutely terrible. I had the saw on a smallish round garden table which was firm enough but the sliding mechanism was that stiff and sticky it was almost pulling the table over. Even if it was on a proper sliding saw table it would have been exactly the same. I took myself up to a well known diy shed to try out other sliding mitre saws and with all of them you could easily pull the saw back and forth with your pinky. I took myself up to a well known diy shed to try out other sliding mitre saws and with all of them you could easily pull the saw back and forth with your pinky. On the dewalt I had you required the full strength of your hand.I googled the problem and it seems its a pretty common occurrence. No amount of lubricating the sliding rails according to peoples opinion on Google would help it.I then cleaned the machine to take it back as it was clearly defective and noticed 2 small hairline cracks on the operating handle. It had obviously been dropped at some point and twisted the sliding rails hence why it wouldn't slide properly although no evidence of this on the box. Its a shame as it was a lovely machine to operate otherwise.
This saw is virtually everything I needed in a dual bevel, sliding compound miter saw. Calibrating the saw out of the box was a piece of cake. If you can read and follow instructions you'll have no trouble zeroing it out.My first use for this saw wasn't for a woodworking project. I used it to cut an aluminum handrail for a cable railing system. I changed out the blade to the DeWalt 12" non ferrous 96 tooth blade and it cut through the aluminum like a hot knife through butter. Nice clean cuts on the bevels.Changing the blade was somewhat tricky the first time, but that was only the first time. I'll attribute that to a learning curve on a new saw.I'm very sure the performance on wood will be just as good if not better. There are a couple of things that ... MoreThis saw is virtually everything I needed in a dual bevel, sliding compound miter saw. I'll attribute that to a learning curve on a new saw.I'm very sure the performance on wood will be just as good if not better. There are a couple of things that prevented me from giving this saw a 5 Rating. The CUTLINE Blade Positioning System is not worth even listing as an attribute of this saw. Outside in the sunlight it is impossible to see the shadow the CUTLINE is supposed to create on your work surface. Even when the sunlight dissipated and the CUTLINE was visible it wasn't a crisp line line a laser line is.The second thing that was no better than just 'ehhh' was the dust collection system. I would say it was 40% to 50% efficient. There was a lot of dust everywhere. The fact of the matter is, I did empty the dust collection bag at the end of the day and it had a decent amount of dust in it, but there was an equal amount of dust everywhere in my work area as well. The last thing is the size of this beast. It takes up a lot of room in my shed. If you're tight on space this saw might not be right for you. Conclusion: Functionally this saw is absolutely great. The cuts it makes, with ease of setting miters and bevels is just what the doctor ordered. The few 'cons' are worth noting, and collectively I'd take off a half star for them and give the rating a 4.5. However, I obviously can't do that and they are definitely worth mentioning so a full star off for them is what it is. I'd still recommend this saw to someone in the market for it.
I have been looking for a new saw for some time and I love this saw. The cut line light makes it easy to get an accurate cut. Dust collection is not bad but it certainly does not pickup all the dust. I suspect that hooking up to a vacuum would help pick up more dust. Got CT to price match another store and used my reward points to make the cost a little less painful. The blade that came with the saw is alright but I will get a Freud blade once I am done the flooring project as the material is hard on blades anyway. Positive stops are really nice. Blade change could be a little bit easier and actually had to look on YouTube to find the 2nd hidden screw because the manual does not show the location. Blade change could be a little bit easier and actually had to look on YouTube to find the 2nd hidden screw because the manual does not show the location. You have to pull the saw down about 1/2 way and it gives you access to the screw. The safety switch is nicely designed and naturally engages when you are ready to make a cut. Lots of power and you can feel the saw kick up a bit when you press the trigger. The saw is fairly heavy but the handles make it easy to carry and after all it is a large saw so I would expect it to be fairly hefty.
Bought this saw to replace my 10" single bevel miter saw. Right out of the box you notice scratches in the finish, and rough sharp casting material left on corners. The first job I had for the saw was installing baseboard trim making cuts for coping inside corners. The slide action was extremely unsmooth which made making clean precise sliding cuts nearly impossible. Changing the blade was difficult as it requires removing part of the lower blade guard, this was not detailed in the manual, but it is simply impossible to remove or install blades without removing the guard unless you like to bend your saw blades or force them past protruding screws. Finally, the saw jumps on startup, and the dust collection was also not as advertised. After only a few cuts I checked ... MoreBought this saw to replace my 10" single bevel miter saw. After only a few cuts I checked the collection bag and I think there was more dust on and around the saw then in the bag. Overall the slide action was my biggest complaint, but coupled with the other issues it made the decision to return the saw much easier. The design has many attractive and well thought out features, but at $650 the quality was lacking, and I think Dewalt missed the mark in the most important places. I'm a diehard Dewalt owner, which made this painful for me, I wanted to like it more. I'm looking at buying the Makita 12" dual bevel sliding compound miter saw next. Come on Dewalt...
