Basic big STRONG useful camping survival blade with no frills and a hollow handle to store stuff. Excellent! One notch under a machete's usefulness around the camp for chopping duties but MUCH lighter! General cutting duties are easily accomplished with the wide blade. Stabbing? Be Careful! No finger-guard! The BIG bonus is the hollow handle which turns this knife into a usable spear head or assagai with the blade point at the centre line of the spear shaft, so excellent for throwing or controlled thrusts. I find the Cold Steel escrima stick great as a legal carry walking stick and with sandpaper and a couple of rubber caps, an excellent shaft for this blade. Sheath is well fitted and secures well to your belt or strapping. I have had one of these knives for 20 years. I love it. I read the review about the broken tip. Looked at the pictures. The knife has been abused. The blade looks like it was beaten against a rock. It is a knife not a rock chisel. I have not had any problems with mine, even with throwing it at some trees.

I've purchased three of these, one for my pack, one for my truck and one for my side by side. I use them weekly for different activities and they have held up quite well. In fact I've quit using my supposedly superior blades in favor of these

It didn't last 24 hours...
22 April 2023

My father-in-law bought this for my 12 year old son.Last night, after he received it, he tried using it to start a fire... sparks were coming, but did not manage to actually get it going. Not a big deal. He probably needs more practice. This morning he went outside, threw it at a rotten log. Was loving it. It stuck nice and it was successful a few dozen times. Then he tried to throw it at the "live oak tree", and the tip broke, upon him pulling the knive out.Sad. I guess you shouldn't expect a $20 knife, advertised for throwing to survive the "pure force" of a 12 year old throwing it. It's just sad...but I guess the good news is, maybe he will stop spending all of his money on cold steel...I truly hoped the fun will last a bit longer than this. We received it yesterday around 4pm, and today, before 10am is already tipless. Got a few sparks and a few dozen throws out of it.Sure it can still be used for other things.Just here to tell the others...the tip is weak. Save your money, spend it on something better.

Unbreakable, functional survival knife - store a survival kit in the handle, use as a machete, knife, or spear. You cannot beat the value.

Mismatched description versus picture
18 November 2020

I was curious to see if I would receive what was pictured or if I would receive what was described. The price was good to average for what was pictured without a handle. If I received what was actually described it would've been a heck of a deal! I received what was pictured. It's okay.

Practical

I’ve had the bushman knives for years, but have misplaced a couple so ordered more. These are no nonsense knives and good for any purpose you may need a good blade for. I like the new plastic sheath. It clips on your belt easily and stays put.

Super sharp right out of the box, Warning
4 February 2022

Super sharp right out of the box. it’s an excellent throw a knife and when you mount the blade on the end of a stick & it makes a formidable spear that can be thrown with easy balance and accuracy. Warning, the blade needs to have a metal lips that will prevent your hand from sliding up the blade when you’re trying to remove the stick from the handle. Because after a long day outdoors and you’re ready to remove the knife from the walking stick/spear You’ll run into great difficulty and will surely cut your hand or cut off a finger ,

VERSATILE!
9 November 2020

This is a very versatile knife. Easy to carry in the field and is great for splitting wood. Easy to sharpen. Keep it dry and it will last you for many years. I still have my old one and have used it for years. One in my pack and one on my side.

no handle WHAT!!???
23 February 2020

I would give it five stars but this ad is misleading and it mine didn't come with the ash wood handle which it says but it doesn't. I think walmart should honor that I don't know how to get ahold of somebody to complain about it but it says right there in the description, 84 in total length with Ash wood handle. I thought it seemed like too good of a price to be true. I bought the Asante spear was very pleased with it because it came with the handle! Like I said the knife is great the lack of handle I put on Walmart another disappointment.

For the money, the Bushman knives might be the strongest survival/outdoor knives in the world! Unlike most hollow handled survival knives, there is no joint or seam between the blades and handles that requires a mechanical fastener. Instead, the Bushmans blades and integral handles are each expertly cold forged out of a single piece of 2.5mm thick SK-5 high carbon steel. The resulting knives are expertly heat-treated and tempered to RC54 and, when subjected to our tests, have withstood over two tons of pressure on their blade/handle transition! Every Bushman blade has been carefully ground to an extra thin edge, and then honed and buffed by hand until razor sharp. The Bushman knives are versatile too! Their hollow handles will accept survival supplies or a variety of handle extensions which can maximize reach, leverage or ease of throwing. They feature continuously curved blades that are ideal for skinning, and will pierce, cut, slash, slice and shear like you wont believe. They come complete with the new heavy duty plastic Secure-Ex sheath which features an attached ferrocerium fire steel.
