Casio Privia PX-870 Digital Piano - White + Bench

We were impressed right out of the box. It was very easy to set up. The sound & quality is very impressive for a digital piano. It offers a lot of extra bells & whistles without taking up too much space on the keyboard, & keeps a clean uncluttered look. It’s relatively lightweight and doesn’t take up much space, making it easy to incorporate into any room. The weighted, hammer action keys, and full 3 pedal system, along with the excellent sound resonance make it sound & feel very similar to playing a grand piano. We couldn’t be more pleased.

Casio Privia PX-870 Digital Piano White (PX870WE)

Good, solid digital piano at its price point. Excellent, firm action, and a 'vintage-y' sounding piano tone. Once you get used to the master function key and the designated invocation keys you're generally flying with it. But the instructions are terrible. It took me two days to locate the sheet with all of the keyboard functions. Casio should include the user guide in their kit instead of flyers. I had to find the user guide online so I could build the piano and then find those function keys. I emailed Casio but about those function keys but in those two days in limbo they didn't respond. Otherwise, for the price, very satisfied.

Great home piano. LOVE IT!

This Casio PX 870 has a very realistic sound and feel, and I love playing it. I would prefer if the most important functions were more accessible. To make adjustments to the hall effects and string resonance, for example, you must read the instructions and use the included diagram. Hold the function key, and press the corresponding note to get the effect you like. Other than that, this is a great instrument. Casio did a great job creating a digital piano that plays and feels very much like an acoustic piano. This is a piano. The best sound is the grand piano. I am not into the other tones. Very worth the money for me. I have played Yamaha's, such as the p125 and p515; not to knock them, but I enjoy this more, even though it is not very portable. Last Casio Product I will ever buy

Bought this new model after months of research deciding over Yamaha, Roland and others. Order from Guitar Center and delivery were great, showed up in a week. Problem is, the keyboard dies/stopped working 2 weeks later. I then had to drive it to a service center, where it has been for nearly 2 months, 4 times the length I actually had it working in my house. The repair center hasn't been able to get the shop manual from Casio as it is so new, and is waiting for parts to just try since they haven't given troubleshooting info to the service centers (getting mailed copies of manuals from Casio?!?!). Worst part? I bought the accidental breakage protection from Guitar center but didn't want to use it on this as I assumed it was something simple. Keep in mind that the ... MoreBought this new model after months of research deciding over Yamaha, Roland and others. Order from Guitar Center and delivery were great, showed up in a week. Keep in mind that the piano was plugged in to a surge and battery backed up totally protected outlet so no chance it was power surge or otherwise related. Garbage construction, garbage quality control. Completely unacceptable and while I"planned" in a few years to check out the Grand Hybrids from Casio I wouldn't take one for free and will stick with Yamaha/

Review of Casio Privia PX-870BK Digital Piano in Black

Compact, stylish, looks lovely in my dining room without taking up much space. Weighted keys feel beautiful and it is a joy to play. I love it!Assembly instructions lack clear information, so we had a terrible time putting it together, but got there in the end, after a very long time! The laminate wood cracks and scratches easily so be careful when putting screws in, that the screwdriver doesn't slip.

The best piano ever!

This is truly the entire package. From the weighted keys, to the peddles and sheer sound it makes, it’s really the best sounding instrument for the money! We grew up with one of those older grande pianos but I actually think this is better and more convenient than those pricier gismos! You can actually practice in contemplative silence with headphones if needed hence the electric surely comes in handy! It made in splash elegant Black or White, the size is on point for almost any living space, and so I assure you, no regrets whatsoever!

Tone, Touch Response, Pedal Response...Surprisingly Good!

I use this keyboard as a composing/arranging tool, for practicing/improving my keyboard/piano performance skills (I'm not a pianist, I'm a professional guitarist/bass guitarist), and as hand exercise (practicing certain piano calisthenics helps maintain my hands' muscle tone and finger independence). I needed to get rid of the old acoustic upright piano I previously used for these purposes: it had stopped holding its tuning, various internal parts had deteriorated such that repair or rebuilding didn't make sense, and I couldn't play it when my wife needed to work in the same room; an electronic keyboard with realistic piano-like action that could be played silently (and heard through headphones) was more practical for our situation. I was able to try out c. eight different makes/models several times at my local Sam Ash store; this Casio model was the best for my needs and budget range (digital piano technology has certainly advanced since the last time I really explored it). I ordered it online; the "live chat" assistant was very helpful and attentive during various moments of the ordering and delivery-scheduling process, plus he was able to help me save some money during a sale period! Thanks to Casio for an excellent product, and thanks to Sam Ash for enabling my research, selection and purchase happen so effectively.

okay sound terribly built stand

the "cabinet/stand" is of extremely low quality. plastic footboard and particle board sides and back. the keys were not as responsive as advertised (at least not much more than my less expensive model described below) and the only real wood may have been the frame the keyboard was built into. i'm a novice player so i can't speak to the sound quality of the keyboard, but it did not sound better than my $530 keyboard (UMOMO 88 Key Weighted keyboard also purchased from Walmart.com). if the sound of the Casio was amazing then i would understand the low quality stand, but as i said, it did not sound significantly better than my UMOMO, which is built into a solid wood cabinet/stand and sounds fine to me (some keys are a little less responsive on faster tunes but mainly ... Morethe "cabinet/stand" is of extremely low quality. plastic footboard and particle board sides and back. the keys were not as responsive as advertised (at least not much more than my less expensive model described below) and the only real wood may have been the frame the keyboard was built into. i'm a novice player so i can't speak to the sound quality of the keyboard, but it did not sound better than my $530 keyboard (UMOMO 88 Key Weighted keyboard also purchased from Walmart.com). if the sound of the Casio was amazing then i would understand the low quality stand, but as i said, it did not sound significantly better than my UMOMO, which is built into a solid wood cabinet/stand and sounds fine to me (some keys are a little less responsive on faster tunes but mainly when i'm using headphones or a Midi cable and listening through my tablet). there are a lot of digital soundboard features for different sounds/looping/recording, etc. on the Casio, so if you're looking for that you may like this product. but if you're looking for something that sounds like an acoustic piano but let's you wear headphones and connect to your piano apps (for a great price), there are less expensive high quality options. i opted to keep the less expensive and better built UMOMO over the more expensive Casio with it's super low quality stand. i appreciate Walmart's return policy and the great customer service rep who helped me cancel my original request to return the "cheaper" product. note: the legs, on the included UMOMO bench, are rubbish. vinyl and wobbly, so i did buy a separate bench to replace it, bringing the total purchase price for keyboard, stand, and bench to $600). still less expensive than this product.

the sound and feel

Overall:I'm not going to go deep into specs, but rather, provide a more general review about the experience and product. The item was shipped fast and all parts were in order and unblemished. The box is heavy, so I recommend a second person to help you lift, or grab a handtruck. The setup was pretty easy, though i recommend a powered screwdriver. The instructions were about 20% helpful, while a youtube setup video provided the other 80%. All parts fit and setup just fine--not very complicated, but lifting the keyboard part on your own could be challenging.Once put together, the piano itself is amazing, with a true weighted key experience. The sound was fantastic from the speakers, and filled the room even at low volume. The sound was fantastic from the speakers, and filled the room even at low volume. Headphones sound great, as well, for those in apartments. The key action can be somewhat audible, but that's true for most weighted key technology and is not a deal breaker.Overall, I'm more than satisfied with this piano, and every time I pass by it I have to sit down and play. Totally worth every dollar, as this is a long time keeper.Note: I have not yet tested the chordana app connectivity, but plan to do so soon with an ipad using an ipad camera adapter (usb-to-lightning)
