I bought this hydration pak because it is fairly small. I needed it to fit into a tight spot in a rowing shell. Given that it is fairly small, it does not have much extra room for storage. I normally fill the water bag about a quarter full. I can store a small handheld VHF radio and a set of keys in a dry bag and that is about it. If you fill it completely with water, there will be very little room left for storage. This bag is best suited for uses where space is constrained. If you are walking, hiking or something else where space is not an issue, you might wish to choose another product with more storage capacity.I like the toggle switch for the water. There is a built-in handle like that on a hairbrush that is attached to the collar around the water filling opening. The water fill lid is threaded and spins on. You have to be careful to make sure the lid is done up tight.Tip: If you don't fill the bag completely with water, lay the bag on a flat surface before closing the lid. Let the bag sag onto the surface so that all the air is out of the water bag and the water is almost spilling out. Then close the lid. If you don't do this, the bag will be bigger than necessary due to trapped air which takes away from storage space.

I bought this device about 3 weeks ago, because I wanted something smaller when simply doing 10K walks very close to home. I have a M.U.L.E. device and loooove it, yet it's more so for serious hikes out in the boonies. I really like absolutely everything about this 50 oz HydroBak EXCEPT the shoulder straps. I judge those to be either too narrow or perhaps in need of a little bit of padding. Initially, when I begin my 10K walks, I find 50 oz of water to be too heavy for those straps - from a comfort standpoint. I suppose if I was bicycling with that pack and leaning forward, more so, then it might not be an issue due to shifting the weight distribution. This all said, the mild discomfort pretty much goes away by the time I've consumed about 1/2 of the 50 oz and thus ... Maybe you could engineer and start selling some form of accessory that cushions the load bearing portion of the upper should area :--) *remember me when you start making millions off that idea. What I use is a large hand towel wrapped around my neck and covers my traps, and it does the trick. I would travel with less water, but here in Phoenix, AZ, you need every drop of that 50 oz water bladder when walking 10K or more - when it's 100+ degrees outside (and the sun is slapping you silly because there is NO shade, anywhere). Thank you! Work on a better shoulder design for increased comfort. Other than all of this said, you nailed a product niche when creating this smaller pack, because it's perfect in all other respects.

It works, it has a nice design and it is streamlined enough for bike riding (used it for hiking), but I do ride and can see where it would not be obtrusive at all on the bike. I read several reviews prior to purchasing and can tell you that the lid will not leak, more than likely whomever has complained about this has cross threaded it and for sure it will leak then (it can happen if not paying attention). A couple of things that impacted me were the plasticky taste it gives the water and the valve. The water does have a peculiar taste even after rinsing several times prior to use, I read online that warm water and baking soda do the trick…just got back from my trip so I will try that prior to next use. The second part is the valve, pulled back and streamlined with hose is open and pulled forward and open is closed, makes no sense that the valve closed could get caught on stuff, gear, etc…I’m sure they had a reason for it but it just doesn’t actuate like you would think a valve should work. At 50 oz it’s just right for short to medium activities since it’s the equivalent of three bottles of water…overall a good product and great quality.

This is our fourth Camelbak purchase and are generally big fans of their products but this one turned out to be a bit of a dud. We loved the bright color, however, that's about the only pro. The bladder seems to arbitrarily leak regardless of how you close up the twist top. This is definitely not our first time using a bladder so we know how to close them up and pack them in. It would appear there's a defect in the product. I read reviews about leaking issues but figured it could be first timers not knowing how to use the product. We have used Camelbaks for 15 years and have never encountered an issue like this. It's leaked about 5 times now leaving the pack and our clothes wet. At one point we almost lost a cellphone from the water leakage. Different family members ... Hoping we can get store credit at the very least.
Whoever designed this updated version of the Hydrobak should be fired.Trying to access the bladder opening is a challenge to say the least, and don't even bother thinking about refilling it quickly at an aid station as the bladder opening is seated deep inside the bladder pouch and requires detaching the entire bladder to get it far enough out to access the opening.A perfect example of what happens when someone over engineers a product that worked just fine in the first place.
Use:Mountain bikingPros:- Good value, especially on sale- Decent storage for a small pack, can easily fit your phone, key fob and multi tool with room to spare- Feeder tube delivers good volumeLightCons:- Capacity is too small, this is partially my fault because I was replacing my 70oz pack not realizing this is only 50z. I bought this 50 oz. Hydration Pack to replace my old one that lasted me 6 or 7 years, after using it almost everyday. Some of features of this new pack have changed over the years. I love the color--lime green, the fastener on the outside is unique and works great--the bladder is quite difficult to remove from the pack to refill with water so I found a way to refill without removing it. I found the water tube to be a few inches too short to wear it on my left shoulder, so I had to switch to my right. Overall, I absolutely LOVE Camelbak products, they are resistant to being damaged and they very consistent. Years ago, I bought a store brand hydration pack and I was very disappointed. Last summer, my large 100 oz. Camelbak hydration pack saved my life on Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park! I fell backwards hiking down a slope and the cushion of my water bladder probably saved me from getting a head concussion or back injury!! Thank you Camelbak! Camelbak products are the BEST!
I'm a runner and previously had used a larger CamelBak for trail runs, but it was too large/bulky for road running, and wanted something lighter. This one fits the bill! After a bit of adjustment, I hardly felt it, and the mesh back kept my back cooler than I expected. I love the huge opening to fill the reservoir, and it was easy to take out and put back in. The small pocket on the front isn't as handy as I'd like, since I can't reach it while I'm running. It would be nice to have a tiny pocket on the front straps, but I totally understand that would make it bulkier and maybe less comfortable.
We've had this pack for several years now, as I wanted one for my young child that can easily be worn and not forgotten like a water bottle. It's a great size for children, and now at 8yrs old, it's still a good size for carrying, though a bigger reservoir may be needed soon. It can be a pain to open if it's been in the fridge, but it's not too problematic. Screwing closed the reservoir can also cause leaks if you dont get it just right. After owning it for some years, it's second nature. The zipper pouch is quite small, so a phone and keys would be a bit tight when the water is full.If the mouthpiece is broken, make sure not to toss the on switch with it. My biggest complaint of this system is getting the bladder in and out of the pack. This is a serious pain in the rear because of how it's been designed. If you use this pack do not expect to be able to easily remove the bladder whether it's full or empty. For a while after having first received this I almost decided not to continue to use this because of how difficult it is to take the bladder out and then put it back in. However I figured out a workaround for this and maybe this is the way that they intended the system to be used to begin with. Basically don't take the bladder out. You can fairly easily fill an empty the bladder while it remains in the pack. However when you need to clean the bladder you will need to remove it. Fortunately that won't be as often as ... Fortunately that won't be as often as you needing to put water into it for use.I'm not impressed with the bite valve. It would probably work better if the water feed line was longer. I am 61 with wide shoulders and it may be that a pack this size is not intended to be used with somebody my size. As it is, I must hold the bite valve while I use it to ensure water flows through it otherwise the water feed line gets kinked and restricts the flow of water an additional 4 in of water feed line would probably solve this issue.I got this particular pack because I don't always want to ride with the large Mule Camelback that I normally do. This pack doesn't carry a lot of water and I wouldn't ride with it for more than an hour maybe two especially on a hot days. I primarily use it obviously for hydration but more to clear the dust out of my mouth and throat.
