However, I did have a little trouble keeping my gear dry which maybe partially contributed to not having fenders. I used a space blanket to line the inside and wrap around my gear. I've biked over 2600 miles with my burley. It has been on washboard backroads, gravel ground and smooth pavement. It handles very well on all those surfaces. I even took it off road in the desert of Utah. I will say, if you end up biking in sand for some reason, the trailer creates a crazy drag. In southern Utah our route was covered in drift sand and the trailer made it impossible to ride. However no one rides in sand on purpose unless your insane. Also, other bikers were jealous of my sweet nomad and my companion and I gained the nickname "the girls with the yellow trailer". Seriously this thing rocks and makes touring very simple!

Love this thing. Built extremely well, high quality materials. Tracks very well, super smooth, no rattles or squeaks. This, with my cargo e-bike has replaced my car for errands including grocery shopping. Adding the rack is a great choice, as you can strap all sorts of things to it. Extremely happy with my purchase!

I've seen other comments with concerns that the cloth bottom isn't strong enough to hold loads, but I found it to be plenty strong. My test load was a sandbag-filled exercise vest, so the weight was concentrated, and the trailer showed no signs of sagging. The wheel axle also spans under the floor, so that adds additional support. The trailer folds down, with the wheels and tow bar fitting inside, and the whole thing fits easily in the trunk of my Toyota Corolla, along with a folding bike rack, tool box and several other items.

GREAT FOR TOURING

My wife and I recently completed a 4,300-mile ride across the country from Yorktown, VA to Astoria, OR along the TransAmerica Trail. My wife had panniers on her bike and I pulled the Burley Nomad trailer. I ended up pulling 60 pounds total including the trailer itself which included my professional DSLR camera, my 15" MacBook Pro, an iPad, sleeping bags, shower gear, 6 liters of liquids (water and Powerade), etc. The Burley worked flawlessly from coast to coast! Both the camera gear and the MacBook handled the trip without a problem thanks to the Nomad.Pros:Well-made and darn near indestructible! Not a single thing on the trailer broke.Tires still have plenty of tread even after 4,300 miles. The tracking is stable even at speeds of close to 50 mph.Was able to fit much more gear into the trailer than we actually needed.Cons:The only con is that the trail isn't waterproof. The yellow top cover is waterproof. The front, back, sides and bottom are made of a durable material, but it is not waterproof. If the Burley is standing in the rain, it's fine, but when you're riding, the bottom and the front for the most part will get wet. The easy solution for this was to line the inside with a trash bag. We ended up using one trash bag to keep things dry for the entire ride.Lastly, to give you an idea of how durable this trailer is, my wife and I were riding our bikes through a town and I misjudged a curb going about 15 mph. Although I missed it with my bike, the Burley hit the curb with one wheel and flipped. Because of the way the Burley attaches to the bike, within a few feet, it self-righted. I didn't see what happened since the trailer was behind me, but I knew something went wrong. My wife, who was behind me, saw it and couldn't believe how quickly the Burley self-righted. I checked the Burley and couldn't see anything at all wrong with it...not even a scuff on the yellow top!I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who is considering a long-haul tour. If I were going to do the cross-country bike ride again, I would definitely use this.

Great trailer
28 January 2018

I bought an older version back in 2014 and it was one of the best bike decisions I've ever made! I have not tried other trailers, but chose this one for the two-wheeled design and overall good reviews. The Nomad is also sufficiently spacious and has a flexible configuration (remove the cover or sides, let stuff hang off the back or sides, etc) so I can carry just about anything in it with the help of a few bungie cords. I like the internal pockets for things that I always keep with the trailer (e.g. spare tube, although I have never had a flat on the trailer despite several flats on my bike - knock on wood!). I mostly use it for running errands around town and occasionally taking the cats to the vet, so the two-wheeled design prevents any worries about the trailer ... MoreI bought an older version back in 2014 and it was one of the best bike decisions I've ever made! I mostly use it for running errands around town and occasionally taking the cats to the vet, so the two-wheeled design prevents any worries about the trailer tipping over. I also took the trailer bike-camping once when I was riding a semi-soft trail - the trailer and two wheels really helped distribute the weight so I wasn't digging into the mud the whole way. I can see how a one-wheeled design would be better for off-road biking as it can be hard to tell exactly where the wheels will track on this one, but that's not an issue for me. I've carried at least 80 lbs in it occasionally, and regularly >50 lbs, and while getting started or going uphill can be a chore, I don't really notice that I'm pulling a trailer otherwise. Only a couple minor issues with quality in the past 3.5 years: the plastic flag quickly faded to pale yellow so I've tied orange flagging tape to it to improve visibility. The cover has also faded a bit but is still visible, and I'm glad to see Burley offers replacement covers because that'll probably be the first thing to wear out (they have also changed the design/material of the cover since then). Still seems to be waterproof. I also had an issue with the wheels falling off initially - you will definitely want to check and adjust the tension in the axles on a regular basis. Bit tricky to get it tight enough for the wheel to stay on, but not so tight that you can't get the wheel on in the first place (I'm not sure if Burley has changed the axle design in the past few years). Overall, a great product and I expect it to last many more years with perhaps a replacement part or two - if it ever dies completely, I'm sure I'll replace it with another Nomad.

Nice concept, but... with some weak spots

I bought the Nomad and did a 600 km test trip in a week.I placed the mounted Nomad on a weigh balance and loaded all the stuff that I needed. In the end, trailer+load was about 40 Kg (88 lbs). The trailer handles really well behind the bike and sometimes I even almost forgot that I had it attached. However, and even though I was really careful and riding slow on off-road, the wheel axle (https://burley.com/product/kit-axle-tube-assy-nomad/) bent and the wheels started touching the side panels, opening a hole on each side. The bottom fabric of the trailer started to give in, but it's not as bad as some other reviews describe it (yet). The front of the trailer is indeed low when you attach it to a 26" wheel bike. It's a minor issue when you ride mostly on paved roads as I did, but it would be nice to have some extra mounting options for 26" wheel bikes. As a conclusion, it's a nice concept, but it needs some upgrades. To start, a reinforced axle, a hard bottom to prevent the fabric from stretching until it starts touching the ground, and some mounting option to raise the front on 26" wheel bikes. Now the Nomad is stored because I have to find a way to staighten and reinforce the axle, and need to patch the holes on the fabric...

Preliminary test

I got the Nomad along with a walking/ hiking kit to walk the closed to vehicles 4wd roads in Death Valley NP after water damage. So far all I have done is to test the rig along with others on the derelict 4wd roads in the Sierra foothills behind my house. But I can say it is the only such setup which I would take on a real trip. Since the crux of the whole proposition is the need to carry a lot of water (about 8 to 10 lbs per full day) I loaded the Nomad with about 100 lbs (the maximum allowed) of weight lifting plates. With the weight of the Nomad, roof rack etc the total weight was about 120lbs. With sand tires on the axle, flat and gentle slopes were little more effort than would have been involved in walking the same terrain with a 20 lb daypack. Poles were needed for steep uphill to get traction . Going down steep or loose was best done letting the cart go first and holding the waist belt in my hands. I was so happy with all of this, along with the high quality construction, that I used it to take surfboards down a beach behind a mountain bike and got a child rig for my daughter to use with the new grandchildren too.

[Rewarded Review] A Great Bike Trailer.
20 April 2020

No major assembly required. The collapsible features are well designed and easy to operate. I expect the materials to last for quite a while unless a car runs it over. I don't feel any difference in my bikes balance when riding with it hitched. It's shape while being a bit wider than myself and my bike doesn't lead me to needing to compensate when maneuvering around cars or making turns. The flag provides extra visibly to cars. Excellent storage capacity with a divider flap and spacious pockets on the side. I'm excited to haul more in it and hope this motivates others to run their errands via bicycle.

[Rewarded Review] Great Features
15 September 2020

After having used a Burley Encorse for 3 years I decided to retire it after my kiddo started riding bikes on his own. And I purchased the Nomad. In that time I became very familiar with Burley products. First off the materials are first rate and hold up well. Regardless of rain or snow it remains durable and easily cleaned. Another nice thing is how things fold up, stow, and pop off (ex, the wheels slide off easily after depressing a button under a rubber cover...nice touch). Lastly, the trailer pulls very well and the connection point is very durable. So far I like the Nomad as much as my previous. I highly recommend this product.
