Another great printer from Brother. If you want the blackest blacks and sharpest text with the highest DPI then laser jet is the only way to go these days. This printer is very fast even when compared to last year's model, Brother keeps taking strides in product improvements. The copying and scanning function are great to have and produce more than adequate results. I use Windows Scanner instead of the bulky manufacturer software though. Unfortunately, the GUI interface from the setup to web configuration interface is still very 1990's but then again so are most printers. Not sure why. I guess the opinion is "if it works, don't change it - ever". There is an app for your phone and the app works well but, in my opinion, that GUI could use a refresh as well. That's really all there is to complain about and the GUI in no way henders the performance of this awesome printer. I really like how relatively small yet powerful these printers are getting. The setup was pretty straightforward and I was up and printing in about 15-20 minutes from unboxing. The build quality is as good as any printer in this class. Wobbly plastics are just par for the course. If you are relatively careful when moving the printer, you should never actually be able to break off anything. The trays are collapsible and that will protect them well enough in the event of relocating. Overall, a great little office laser jet printer.

I have used a lot of Brother printers over the years, both for work and at home, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was expecting when I ordered this printer.Unboxing - The procedure for unboxing the printer is very good, the top foam piece is two part, allowing it to be removed completely before taking the printer out. They put the printer in a large enough bag to grasp the top and pull it out instead of requiring the box be turned over.Installation - It is fairly straightforward to set up the printer, using the latest drivers from the website is always a good idea and a disk is no longer packaged with the printer. Unfortunately, the cartridge that comes with the printer is only 700 page capacity, so a new one is needed fairly quickly.Brother Renew toner ... MoreI have used a lot of Brother printers over the years, both for work and at home, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was expecting when I ordered this printer.Unboxing - The procedure for unboxing the printer is very good, the top foam piece is two part, allowing it to be removed completely before taking the printer out. Unfortunately, the cartridge that comes with the printer is only 700 page capacity, so a new one is needed fairly quickly.Brother Renew toner program - I was happy that there is a 4 month trial included with the printer, although I despise subscription programs for these kind of products! They also include 1000 free pages for each of the first two months so you can find out your average monthly use within the trial period. When I signed up, they were also offering a $20 credit, so even after the first two months, I don't have to worry about going over too much. I expect to switch to me buying toner cartridges after the trial period, but I will see. One thing that I noticed is that the status web page updates very slowly, leaving you wondering how many pages you have actually printed recently.Print Quality - The print quality is excellent, providing very crisp text and images look very good (once I turned down the darkness of my images. I tried prints at several of the available resolutions and can hardly see a difference between them, making even the default very useful for prints.First-page time - this is a bit slower than some of the Brother laser printers I have had but not by much, it is definitely faster than some machines I have used. The auto two-sided printing is necessary these days and works very well.Paper handling - I wish Brother would develop a paper level indicator! It has been one of my pet peeves about their printers for many years. There isn't even a window of any kind in the front, so you just print until it stops, hopefully not in the middle of a document you need immediately! Even if a level indicator is too much, having a small window would be a big help for the user.Scanning and copying - The scanner is single sided, making it hard to scan double-sided pages using the ADF which is a shame. The ADF works very well and it would really have done well being able to scan both sides without having to use the scan bed as the front panel and software instructs.Toner and Drum - Brother continues its familiar layout and design, allowing the toner cartridge to be replaced separate from the drum. This should lead to much more economical toner in the future - although this new cartridge costs a premium right now! Hope to see it go down in the future since that has always been a big reason I recommend these printers to my school families and friends.Overall, Brother has produced a competent printer that does almost everything I expect at this price point. I doubt anyone will be too frustrated by the small things I pointed out.

There are only three things in life you can rely on: death, taxes, and Brother printers. Assembly is easy: simply remove the securing tape, install the toner/drum assembly, load paper, plug in, and turn it on. The printer will ensure its software is updated after you search for and connect to your Wi-Fi network. All of this is a breeze as usual with Brother printers. If you run into any issues, the included troubleshooting guide gives simple-to-follow instructions to get your machine up and running again as well as provide information to Brother's support services. You'll never use them though, because this printer is as smooth as it gets. The printer shoots out print jobs fast and quiet. It never jammed up on me once, and I don't expect it to either. I love that it doesn't need to warm up with a ton of pre-printing noise that will wake up the kids if I need to use it at night. The page quality is great, but I'm not looking for vibrance or high contrast with a black-and-white laser printer. I want clean and quick, with no streaks or ink blotting on the pages, and the MFC-L2820DW does that beautifully with no fuss. This is true for print jobs out of my mobile devices and desktop computer but also for copying jobs as well. One last thing to note is Brother participates in a Refresh EZ Print Subscription if you stick with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) ink and print plans interest you. I personally find this more useful for color printers, as B&W machines (and Brother printers in general) seem to have a knack for stretching its ink cartridges to last a very long time. While I've only had a little more than a week with this machine, I haven't seen any quality downturns while testing through pretty heavy usage. It is reliable and worth your trust in your home office.
This printer comes packaged well and is to get setup quickly out of the box. The print cartridge comes already installed in the drum and all you have to do is open the packaging, remove the plastic clip and slide into the cartridge slot. I easily connected to my WiFi network from the touchscreen information panel directly on the printer. The PC software and drivers are easy to download and recognized my connected printer right away. The initial firmware update only took a few minutes and the software checks for updates on a daily basis. You also can print directly from your phone by using the mobile app. Printed pages are quick, and the quality is very good. Cartridge replacements run between $50 to around $100 pages but you are expected to get between 1500 to over 2000 pages per cartridge. This makes very economically over other options that will only get you about a fourth of this use. You also have the option to subscribe to a cartridge service that only starts at .89 per month. This will give you 25 pages per month and $1.00 for each additional page. $3.99 will give 100 pages per month and the subscriptions go up if you need more. Unused pages carry over and do not expire so you this will make it even more economical over time. You will receive replacement cartridges on a monitored basis without have to budget for a larger purchase. The footprint is compact and can be placed almost anywhere. It is a little heavy and seems to be very well made.
One of the things that today is highly valued in some products is the ease of use and practicality offered in the tasks for which they were created. The printer comes in one piece, there is nothing to assemble, just remove the stickers from the packaging, install the cartridge with its drum and you can start with the configuration. The configuration can be carried out from the cell phone, the printer displays a QR code that when scanned allows the download of the Brother Mobile Connect app. In the app you must follow the steps to connect the device to the network and grant permissions. It is also possible to connect the printer to a PC via Ethernet or USB. Once the printer is configured and paper is loaded in the paper tray, you can start using it.Configuration and access to virtually all functions from the printer is done via the 2.7" touch screen which is easy to use and very responsive.Regarding prints and copies, the quality is very good, the copies are clear and the device prints fast. It is true that the printer is a little noisy but given the size and capacity I consider that it is normal. It scans quickly and the images are of good quality, clear and accurate. The scanned images can be sent to the cell phone or email without using the app, this can be done from the same printer but you will have to configure these functions previously. Similarly, printing can be done remotely even if the printer and the device from which it is printed are not on the same network, although it takes a few seconds to receive the information, it does it quite well. It is also possible to print remotely but using a password in case of sending confidential documents. Like many of the brother printers this printer allows you to print documents from the cloud, from Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, OneNote accounts. The printer has a paper tray with a capacity of 250 sheets and an automatic document feeder in the top part with a capacity of 50 sheets that makes it possible to copy or scan several documents at the same time. It can print on different types of special papers and envelopes as well. The included toner promises to last 700 pages, but includes a 4-month trial of the Refresh EZ subscription service, after which the subscription will be charged depending on the plan, which also depends on the average number of prints per month, making it possible to save up to 50%, as the monthly subscription can be much lower than the cost of new toner. In conclusion, considering that it is a printer that offers all these features and a little more and is at an affordable price, this Brother MFC-L2820DW printer is a great alternative, if you do not require color prints, for home office or simply if you want to have a good printer at home, a highly recommended printer.

Once youâve set the printer up on your network, you have access to a rather extensive array of features from the touchscreen including scan, copy, fax, 2-sided ID printing, and a whole host of online services like scanning to email or online storage services like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc., or you can create a searchable PDF or scan documents into MS Office apps (all of them, not just MS Word).Hardware capabilities are equally as impressive, especially for a budget box like this. Along with auto-duplexing the output, the auto-document feeder can hold an impressive 50 sheets while you can feed the main paper tray 250 sheets. Scanner resolution clocks in at 600 DPI on the ADF while the flatbed glass produces nice archival-quality scans at 1200x1200 DPI with software interpolation maxing out at a whopping 19200x19200 DPI. Flatbed copies came out nice and sharp, even slightly better than the original thanks to some quick tinkering on the LCD screenâs easy-to-read copy settings menu.Print speeds were reasonably quick but varied wildly depending on whether âQuiet Modeâ was engaged or not. This setting is ostensibly there to help dial back some of the mechanical whirring and imaging noises made during printing, but the difference in noise level wasnât really all that noticeable to me. On Quiet Mode, a simple 3-page document took close to half a minute to print with the first page not spitting out until a good 17 seconds after the printer registered the document in the print queue. The same print job took less than 12 seconds with Quiet Mode disengaged, including just 6 seconds for the first page to come spilling out into the paper catcher.Connectivity options are extensive with 2.4 and 5Ghz wireless, Ethernet, and USB options to get the printer online. Airprint worked flawlessly with my iPhone 14Max Pro, as did wireless printing from my Chromebook and Windows 11 PC. The Brother Mobile Connect App was definitely useful to help get the printer online as it walked you through network setup and registration with simple, easy-to-follow instructions and images; and once you have the app installed, you can use it to print documents and photos remotely, are well as scan documents and manage any optional toner subscription service. But frankly, the usage experience has been so seamless and has worked so well with all our computing devices, I donât honestly see a need to use the app (unlike some other manufacturerâs smart printers which basically REQUIRE you to use a companion app to access any real functionality). For all it can do at a very reasonable budget-oriented price point, you would think the Brother would be a hands-down winner; but if thereâs one place that the MFC-L2820DW gets a BIG demerit, itâs in print quality. Donât get me wrong, for a budget laser, I wasnât expecting professional, print-store quality output, but unless you turn off all the ECO and toner-saving features, text quality is just okay. With toner-saver and ECO modes enabled, text just looks a littleâŠweakâŠthat is the best way my wife and I could describe it. Not that it looks BAD by any means, just a bit thin and light in a way that makes you feel like youâre missing something--like the output really SHOULD be looking a bit better than it does. Of course, you might expect such compromises when ecology settings are turned up to the max, and if so, maybe the slightly underwhelming weight of the text on the page wonât matter to you. However, if you turn off ECO and toner saver modes, the output does becomes appreciably better looking.Image reproduction fared even worse. Even at the âbestâ print quality settings with all toner-saving features turned off, large and small images suffered from significant banding and poor gradient reproduction. If your B&W printing needs include a bit of mixed media or graphical output, color banding issues will render pretty much any content, even simple, single-colored shapes, looking like âdraftâ output.Iâd LOVE to make a stronger recommendation for this printer because itâs SO capable in so many ways at a price-point thatâs really hard to beat; but passable print quality and subpar graphical/image reproduction make this unit a tough sell. I would say that if you plan to do mostly text-based output and do not need publishing-house print quality, the MFC-L2820DW might just meet your needs; otherwise, youâll have to think hard about whether the attractive capabilities this printer packs under the hood are worth the tradeoffs youâll see on the printed page.
This is a great printer for a small office or home office that offers many all in one features you need for work, school and small home projects. Setup is really easy, simply plug it in after following the instructions to remove all of the packing materials and then install the toner. Once that's done, it's just a matter of configuring your phone, tablet or computer to use the printer and scanner. This printer is also compatible with a toner service where you can have peace of mind that you'll never run out of toner and best of all it saves from buying cartridges and risking getting an inferior non-branded cartridge which in my experience is a roll of the dice.As for print quality, this printer is amazing, it prints extremely fast and has a large paper tray that ... MoreThis is a great printer for a small office or home office that offers many all in one features you need for work, school and small home projects. The large color touchscreen display makes it easy to use the multifunction features where you can scan, and make copies. Even though this printer prints in black and white it does scan in color and the document feeder takes the work out of scanning/copying multi-page documents. This machine is perfect for running a small office or just to have at home in a small home office setup for the occasional prints and scans though it can handle a good amount of volume when you need it to. It's quick to wake up and doesn't make much noise too, very impressed.I'd definitely recommend this printer as it's so far been solid for me and I've printed several multipage documents and use the copy function to make duplicate copies all without any issue.
This black and white (monochrome) laser printer is a compact device with a built-in scanner (both flatbed and automatic document feeder), fax, and copier. For a laser printer, it is lightweight and small (16 wide x 16 deep x 13 inches tall), entirely made out of plastic material, with the top being black and the sides/bottom a dark gray color. It has a commercial look for small to medium-sized businesses or home offices. The printer was easy and fast to set up and connect to my network. Once connected to the network, you can print or scan from it using any mobile device or computer. The wireless functionality works well with the Brother Print app on all devices. Once connected to the network, you can print or scan from it using any mobile device or computer. The wireless functionality works well with the Brother Print app on all devices. The app is simple yet robust and functions well without glitches. The control panel has the essential functions and buttons that allow you to change several settings on the printer. You can make copies with just a few button presses. Scanning documents or making copies, you have two primary functions: (1) use the automatic document feeder (ADF) to scan, copy, or fax multiple pages at a time, or (2) use the top glass scan flatbed. The top glass bed scanning is preferred for more detailed scans. Even though this device prints monochrome (black/white), it does scan documents and images in full color. Scan quality is good; files can be stored as images or PDFs; also, multiple pages can be combined into a single PDF file. Print quality is crisp and suitable enough for daily use and bulk printing. This device's laser toner/cartridges are the TN830/XL/V. The printer has a few jam-clearing compartments, are conveniently located, and can quickly be opened to clear jammed papers/documents. The device has an ethernet and USB port for wired connectivity. There is a port for a landline connection for the fax feature. There are two options for toner/cartridge replacement: (1) the user orders and buys toner/cartridges when needed, or (2) Brother Refresh EZ Print Subscription, which you get automatically delivered a toner to your door when you need it. It is a subscription plan based on the number of pages printed each month and not the amount of toner used. Any unused pages roll over, and you can change or cancel the subscription plan. This laser printer is excellent for speed printing and is faster than inkjet for bulk or large print jobs. It is a reliable, simple, black-and-white, and all-in-one laser printer for home office and small business.
This is a great printer for SOHO or a small business. This printer has all the features that my office printer got at work.First thing first, the design screams productivity and functions. Being a workhorse printer, it is quite big comparing to the typical entry level laser printer that youâre familiar with but surprisingly it is not too heavy. The LCD screen is bright enough and it is functional and reliable. Setting up the printer is quite intuitive and easy enough. The printer only prints in monochrome. However, it has no problem printing colorful pictures, which will be printed in monochrome. However, it has no problem printing colorful pictures, which will be printed in monochrome. I tested printing graphs and pictures and am mostly pleased with the results though some adjustments may still be needed if I want a perfect print. Printing pictures in monochrome, however, will drain your laser toner quite quickly.I printed documents at home and this printer has the capabilities like one of those big printers at work, which says a lot considering that my office printer is big document processing machine. The star of the show is the duplex capabilities. Itâs a great printer if you want to save papers as the duplex capability is reliable and automatic. The only difference between my office printer and this one is the stapling capability, which this printer obviously doesnât have. Aside of that specific feature, this machine can do everything: wireless printing, copying, scan and fax, etc. The printer is able to print at 34 pages per minute, which is fast enough for most needs. The capacity of the document feeder is 50 pages, which should be enough for most needs. The toner that comes with the printer is rated at 700 pages. The printer can scan document at 1200x1200 dpi resolution, however, if youâre using the automatic document feeder to scan document fast, the resolution comes down to 600 x 600 dpi. Also, if you connect the printer to internet, you can add more features such as the ability to scan a Word document and convert it automatically to searchable PDF format right from the printer. Thereâs a bunch of apps that Brother offers to install on the printer, which adds more features to the printer. You can also install the accompanying software, which gives you free templates and it is actually a useful software to give you the most out of the printer. The printer also offers a trial to the Brotherâs subscription service, which makes sense if you have large printing needs every month. Youâd be getting the offer after updating the firmware of the printer and as per the Brotherâs website, it is actually quite an enticing offer as it is âa zero commitment free trialâ, which will get you â4 months free + an extra $20 refresh credit to use towards future subscription paymentsâ. Overall, this is a great printer if you print in monochromes only.
