Amazing Speakers

I have been using the speakers for three weeks now and wow. They are amazing. Everyone has a different experience with speakers as we are all different so I suggest going to your local store and auditioning before purchase.Be careful with what drives them, I found that with a Cambridge Audio Amp these were struggling to be driven at lower volumes as there was no definition. With a Denon AVR-X2700H, I could lower the volume to a whisper and there was almost all definition. In comparison to other speakers I auditioned, these were very similar to other stand mount speakers. Most of the stand mounts sounded like all the sound was concentrated in a single point between the speakers. The KEF's (floor standing) was a wall of sound which was very impressive. However, they (KEF Q550's) could not hold a candle to the B&W's in terms of Bass or Treble. I was smiling ear to ear when we swapped over and immediately concluded the B&W's were the ones for me.The finish on these looks way better in real life than online. The final point is usage: I use these either for streaming music through the Denon or watching TV/playing games with an Xbox One. They have given outstanding sound from games, we are hearing things we never heard before. I have only had one video (Groundhog day on Amazon Prime) where we had to swap back to the TV speakers. This was because the voices were so soft compared to the rest it was not listenable. I would put this down to the movie sound engineering because everything else I have watched (these have been used for 24 days straight) has been incredible. When working from home I sit almost 1m to the left of the left speaker and almost in line with the front. Even in that seating, they are great.

Brilliant clarity and soundstage.

Bought these a few weeks ago to replace some B&W 685s (S1) At the moment they are connected to my Marantz CD6003 and matched PM6003 integrated amp. The speakers are a revelation. I am hearing elements of music I hadn't previously been aware of. This is in discs I've owned for 15 years. The soundstage is wide and full and the positioning of instruments and vocals remains constant. All sounds are produced with crystal clarity. As the fronts in a 5.1 B&W and Denon surround system they are so convincing that whilst watching a blueray my partner went to answer the door in response to a knock eminating from the film. Thoroughly recommend these speakers.

I have seen many reviews saying that the 606 S2 Anniversary Editions were too bright and may cause listening fatigue, but that has not been the case in my personal listening experience. I have always been a fan of a brighter sounding speaker with more treble, and every pair of speakers I have had (whether it be a car stereo or my other bookshelf speakers) I have had to turn up the treble a significant amount to sound clear enough for me. These are great out of the box, but I expect them to get even better with time as this is the case with most speakers. Bowers and Wilkins is known for their signature sound, and these also apply to that “V” shape that they are known for. These have excellent highs and great lows. Perfect for me.

Good - but not world beaters.

Bought a new Marantz Hifi system to replace my existing Harman / Kardon . Thought that I also needed to replace my beloved Linn speakers at the same time, after all the Bowers and Wilkins 606 S2 Anniversary had a really good write up. I can imagine some toddler brushing past it, knocking it to the ground and trampling all over it - ouch! For an "index" speaker, they are quite deep which seems quite disproportionate, you get this urge to want to turn them sideways. I'm sure B & W have their reasons, which may be very relevant, but I am only commenting on the general look.ConclusionOverall, I would give them 8/10, but please remember to go and listen to them yourself as you may have a different opinion to mine. Richer Sounds are very good in that they will set up the speakers for you if you give them notice and you can make your own mind up as to their performance

Good but...

I tried these speakers for about 2 weeks. I played different types of music from Latin (Salsa, Jazz, Merengue, Rock, Vallenato, Bachata and some more). Also some Rock, House, Trance, Dance, Rap, Hip-Hop, Soft Pop, Classic Pop and some more.I really like the sound of them until the songs require a good amount of base… then they just could not handle it. Muffle would be the word I would use. The tweeter is a little bit better than the one on my Polks. It lingers a little bit longer… you can definitely hear and feel it and I like that from these speakers.I will definitely replace my 10 year old Polks if I find something better. Next, I will try the 600 Series 3-way Floorstanding.Note.All of the music I tried on these are CD Rips: FLAC in 44.1/16 and some online ... MoreI tried these speakers for about 2 weeks. My favourite speakers
24 July 2022

I first had B&W speakers about 40 years ago, and I loved them and literally played them to death. It’s been a while since I’ve had the money to upgrade my system, but doing it now and the 606 S2s were my first choice. They took several hours to burn in and are still doing so, but I am already wallowing in the astonishing sound they produce. I’ve tried Sinatra, Kraftwerk, dub reggae, Stones, Bowie, my own home recordings, internet radio, Barber, Satie, Neil Young, you name it, I’ve chucked everything at them and the sound is incredible. With the CXN V2 and CXA 81 and Chord cables, they are mind-blowingly better - everything sounds new again, so many little details I’m spotting for the first time. Absolutely brilliant speakers, regardless of your musical tastes.

Not my cup of tea!
5 March 2023

I bought these speakers to expand my home entertainment system. I enjoy both music and home theater on a salesperson's recommendation. Also, my purchase was based on other favorable reviews. Although I found the speakers to be quite good in many respects. I found the "high end" to be too forward and pronounced. I thought that a lot of what I listened to through these speakers was characterized by a great deal of sibilance and harshness (almost painful at times) high end. I found that I had a hard time listening to anything through them for an extended period of time. They definitely were not my cup of tea so I ended up returning them.

Perform above their size for vinyl-very articulate
7 August 2021

I initially went to Best Buy magnolia Center to listen to tower speakers. After scrolling through the selection of speakers on the floor I decided to take a listen to some of the bookshelves in the room. These bookshelves perform exceptionally close to floor standers in the lower frequencies but far more articulate in the higher frequencies. Most floor standers that I demoed still required a sub to be used. When combining these bookshelves with a subwoofer I felt there was absolutely no compromise in filling the room with high-quality definition in tones. My purchase was based upon the use of predominantly listening to music, in particular vinyl. If you are looking for a home theater or house party volume levels these probably will not fit the bill. However if you are looking to listen to music at modest volume levels say 60 to 85 dB then I think you’ll be exceptionally pleased. The only downside I see in the speakers is that the highs can be slightly ear fatiguing on certain recordings and music types. However rolling off just a bit of treble from your source can tame this. Pink Floyd remastered albums sound amazing through the speakers as do more vintage vinyl such as Boston, Devo, New order, ELO, Van Morrison, and Tom waits. Poorly recorded albums will not be enhanced by the speakers; for example albums like Weezers Blue album are unenjoyable as the frequencies are grouped in a very narrow band. For home theater the speakers do a fine job however I am not Into movie listening experience like others may be. Hope this helps

Totally blown away

Having decided to invest in some new stereo speakers, I spent a few weeks researching, reading reviews, and also working out my requirements. I actually thought these B&Ws wouldn't be for me as everyone says they're not good near a wall. But listening to a bunch of the speakers I wanted to check out in an audition session at Richer Sounds allowed me to understand the sonic differences and capabilities of various speakers that all get rave reviews between £200 and about £800. And to try them at different proximities to back and sidewalls of the audition room with various different types of music – as I listen to pretty much everything. Of all the speakers I listened to, I couldn't get away from the space, depth and clarity of the sound coming from these B&W 606 S2 speakers. The instrument separation and coherence of busy passages of music was, for me, astounding. Really decent dynamic heft and punch to the sound without sacrificing clarity, warmth and charm. Had them at home for 11 days and can't stop listening to records, each a total revelation. Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album sounds like never before (Hang on to Yourself was one of my speaker audition tracks). I'd also urge anyone to dig out Nitin Sawhney's Prophesy album too and give it a spin. The production is lush and these 606 S2s make the music so rich, detailed and full (like you're listening on much bigger speakers) - even at low volumes that I just can't stop listening. These speakers have ticked all my boxes and exceeded expectations. I didn't realise music at home could sound this good. Total game changer. Thank you Richer Sounds!

I bought these speakers having secured a great deal from RC Bristol and having listened to them in RC Reading.Going from a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 50, purchased only last years again from RC Bristol, I was blown away with the transparency, wide sound stage, taught bass and crisp highs offered by the 606 S2s.
