Im not sure how these are meant to look, but when I opened the can (which had been stored at room temperature) the contents were surrounded by a cloudy solid jelly. I tried to shake them out but they wouldnt budge - I expect I could have got them out with a spoon and rinsed them but they looked and smelt so unappealing that I threw them away. They were a pale murky green rather than the normal bright green of fresh ones. Such a shame as I love edamame beans, but will definitely stick to the frozen variety from now on.

I was surprised and concerned by a greyish gelatinous substance coating the beans, I risked eating them anyway as they smelled and tasted fine, but a disclaimer on the tin, that this is normal, would have been reassuring.

I didn't actually buy these on Ocado but in a local farm shop/cooperative grocery, but I have to agree with a number of the negative reviews on here. They taste fine when all is said and done, but getting some frozen beans would probably be a better idea. The brine does indeed look a bit unappetising - almost like tinned cat food - but I found it did wash off relatively easily and the end texture was decent enough. Colour-wise, they look a bit dull, but no different to how tinned green beans and peas look vis-a-vis their fresh and frozen counterparts. Perhaps the biggest problem, though, is that there are no real cooking/preparation instructions at all on the packaging. I followed some generic instructions based on those from a can of kidney beans and the frozen bean variety - boiling in water gently for 3 minutes - and they came out well enough. Ultimately, though, I think frozen edamame beans are the way to go.

I have no idea why these are sold as they are, came in a grey coloured gel, beans were pale and sprouted, I actually thought they were off, but going on the reviews it is standard. Disgusting smell too. Threw out.
I think biona could do with advising on how to prepare these. I put them in a stir fry but they are a bit short on texture. They are not like fresh or frozen edemame as they have no bite and are a pale khaki green colour. And as others have said, the jelly they sit in is hard to rinse off but perhaps could be put to some clever vegan use like aqua faba.? Won?t be buying again.
I have been purchasing Biona Edamame many times. But products on my recent purchase changed.. the edamame became quite soft and its in this thick jelly brine that could not be washed off. Very dissappointed.. I noticed all the other recent reviews noticed this as well...
I was really thrown when I got solid jelly around the beans instead of watery brine. So solid I could hold the tin upside down and nothing comes out even when shaken violently. Smelt fine though. Gave the beans a rinse in a sieve under hot water and extracted an extra layer of skin on some of them that I think turns mushy and starchy and 'sets' the water. Once cleaned they do taste nice - although a bit soft to the bite. I'd use them again but the appearance is off-putting to begin with.
Really really horrible product. Love Biona products and love edemame but these slimy smelly things went straight in the bin!
Upon opening the tin these beans looked odd covered in a strange coating. Once washed they looked more like edamame beans although they had a soft mushy consistency. These are OK if you are adding to stir fry but not great if you want to serve them as a snack. Stick to frozen as they taste better
first off dont expect the green beans you see on the tin. when i opened i was pretty put off by these dreadfully pale things inside. Not really a big deal i guess, just misleading. However they were also just....so mush. so small and mushy. Really a far cry from the plump, meaty and toothsome edamame ive come to hold as the ideal. Maybe you could slip these into a stew or something, definitely not fresh, bright beautiful salad material
