Price was steep but the product a worthy successor to my venerable Deuter 6L belt/sling bag that was, after a decade, finally being pensioned off was all that was promised with lots of useful pockets so I no longer have to search the bottom of the bag for small objects. The top zippered pocket is particularly useful because it takes my backup battery, cables and adapters. The internal sidepockets take my lightweight shopping bags. With better weather proofing through sealing zips and bag matierial, I have less problems with the wet. The belt adjustment is both easier and less likely to slip. My only gripe is that the colour is not what I imagined..."Basalt" turned out to be a dark blue and not a dark grey as I expected.

I absolutely love my 6L daily use bag! The design is incredible, with so much thought and functionality put into every aspect. The main compartment is perfect for my water bottle, windbreaker, and any extra essentials I need to carry. The ultra-wide zipper access is a game changer, making it so easy to find exactly what I need without digging through the entire bag. The expandable gusset is a brilliant touch, allowing for self-compression when the bag is empty. The adjustable shoulder strap is so comfortable for all-day wear, and the quick-release buckles make it easy to detach the strap from either side.

This is the best sling bag I have ever tried. I have previously tried slings by Timbuk2, Crumpler, STM, Chrome and a few others. The amount of padding and pockets on this make it amazing for the size and it's really comfortable as well. The only thing it's missing is a padded shoulder strap pad. I just used a Protec strap pad I already had. Still fine without but some might prefer to have that padding. Will buy the slightly larger version as well considering how much I like the design.

As the title says, there can be big differences between the colourways. Specifically Bellroy has an ecopak 6L Venture version that comes in black and coyote (the "black" in the regular version is called midnight). The ecopak refers to the material which is a laminated sailcloth similar to xpac which means it's highly weather resistant and a little crinkly sounding. It's also a lot lighter (220g vs 345g on the regular according to the Bellroy website). The strap is also different as the ecopak has a bungee type strap with no buckles, and the regular has a more seatbelt like strap with buckles on both ends. Also the interiors are different. The regular version has more pockets (2 slip pockets in the main bag and one extra side pocket), and has a more plush inner ... MoreAs the title says, there can be big differences between the colourways. The regular version has more pockets (2 slip pockets in the main bag and one extra side pocket), and has a more plush inner lining which Bellroy is known for.So I bought the Basalt (regular), and Coyote (Ecopak) so I could compare their differences in hand. I ended up going with the Coyote Ecopak and returning the Basalt (shout out to Altitude's great return policy for members). The biggest things for me were the lighter weight and how the coyote packs more flat (great for travel), and the increased water resistance. While the extra pockets from the regular would have been nice, the Ecopak version has a decent amount of pockets and I have small pouches I can put in the sling for greater organization
This is our second Bellroy purchase in span of two weeks. Purchased a rust small sling for my husband initially and then this black 9th sling. Bellroy’s understanding for design is way far ahead than any other big brands in this segment. Being leather free adds to its brand image. Both me and my husband are all set for our long travel needs with lovely bags !Just a request, your website says that the 9th sling comes in a separate black bag……… but I received it open in a carton. So maybe you can check on it please? Thanks.
Although the Bellroy Venture sling has some thoughtful organizational features and I wanted to love it, surprisingly, the clip used to attach the carrying strap to the body seems to be made of thin, flimsy plastic. When simply slipping on the sling for the first time (empty), the clip snapped, leaving it useless for carrying. Since the other end of the strap is permanently attached to the body, it’s not a simple matter of swapping it out, so this was an instant return—and a search for a more durable product from a different brand. It’s hard to understand why a stronger, better designed part wasn’t used, as this felt cheap in a product that wasn’t.Also of note is that because of the Venture’s design, even when the main compartment is zipped fully closed, there ... MoreAlthough the Bellroy Venture sling has some thoughtful organizational features and I wanted to love it, surprisingly, the clip used to attach the carrying strap to the body seems to be made of thin, flimsy plastic. When simply slipping on the sling for the first time (empty), the clip snapped, leaving it useless for carrying. This isn’t something you should ever need to worry about in an EDC product. For the reasons mentioned above, I cannot recommend the Bellroy Venture sling.
Altitude Sports generally carries the Basalt and Coyote which are different. The Coyote is made from Ecopak which is similar to X-Pac making it a bit crinkly, plasticky but is highly water resistant. The Coyote is also much lighter (220g vs 345g), and also packs down much slimmer. The straps are different with the Basalt having metal detachable clips on either side with a seatbelt material, while the Coyote has a bungee like strap with no detachable clips. On the interior, the coyote has less pockets than the Basalt, and has a nylon interior where the Basalt has the plush lining Bellroy is known for.I bought both knowing the differences and wanted to compare them in real life. Bought this bag about 2 or 3 years ago to replace a similar sling bag which broke. I use this bag almost daily and also for music festivals where I’m in crowds and dancing a lot the whole time. I have never had an issue with the bag being unsecured and usually I’m carrying a full bag with a water bottle inside, umbrella and jacket hanging off the bag. I like all the compartments and there is a lot of space! I’m always the things person in my friend group carrying all the food and water for events. I have no problem with things falling out of the bag. As long as you zip the bag all the way closed, nothing will fall out. I’ve never lost anything even in crowds where theft is rampant and even when I’m dancing hard and non stop for hours. There are also like these two straps at the end of the zippers where you can tuck the zippers under there when closed to provide more security. I actually have the white version of this bag which can get dirty quickly but I usually just wash it with baking soda and soup to refresh it. Overall this bag has been my go to. It’s been around the world at many music festivals. It’s definitely larger then other sling bags but I like the ability to carry a lot of stuff on me!!!
If you're looking for a light carry on a day out without packing out your pant pockets, this is a great option. There's plenty of room for a decent sized water bottle while still having room left for other EDC items. I love how it automatically packs down to a lower profile when it's not full. The unique strap clips are easy to release and reconnect. I like that it has two strap adjusters so you don't end up with a single adjuster resting on your chest like standard straps. The two exposed zippers have a water resistant design which is great but I don't like how they are so glossy and stick out. Another negative is the short key holder. The key loop is a cheap, soft plastic. For the price, I expect to see a more robust key ring (ie. aluminum). Gave this bag to my partner who said he was interested in an over the shoulder type of bag. I did my research and this one was praised by many different folks. Let me tell you, we just got back from an international vacation and it did not disappoint! Super durable. Great size. Amazing construction. It held SO MUCH! At one point it had sunglasses, passports, earbuds, a comb, sunscreen, keys, protein bars and probably more that I’m forgetting. We love how the zipper opens from both sides. Also how it compacts if you’re not carrying much. This is a great find that I can’t recommend enough. It feels tough too, great material.
