Battlefield 1 (PS4)

I might be biased, but I love this game. I'm not a huge nerd, and despite owning for well over 4 years now (nearly 5), I've barely reached level 100, and just finally focused on obtaining all weapons and max ranking the classes.The game has still held up, and I enjoy it as a shooter. No, it doesn't do WW1 justice. So if you're one of those people who dislike anything with a smidge of historical accuracy, and complain about it online, then this definitely isn't for you. Stick to Verdun. Despite it's major historical flaws, I personally think it did well getting people into the history and weaponry behind the first world war. Best Battlefield game since Battlefield 3

Each soldier has their own story to tell and each one dives into one of many significant battles of world War 1. In older games, the characters were just that, "characters." But this time around, the story told is very powerful and the weight of each character dying is felt through more than just vibration feedback from your controller. Furthermore, we all know that the meat of Battlefield 1 lies within its multiplayer mode, which surprisingly sports new gameplay modes that really captivates a true world war like no other online shooter has ever done before. There are two new modes that are a must-play: war pigeon and operations. War pigeon operates similar to capture the flag, but you find and capture a pigeon, send it off in order to call down a war strike on your enemies. It's fun, frantic, and a much welcome breath of fresh air for the franchise. In operations, you attack or defend objectives on massive maps (from jungles to deserts), with small twists in between the rounds to keep things interesting fresh and team oriented. Before each round, there is a narrator that gives a brief history lesson on why it was important that each opposing force needed to win the battle back in world war 1. The sound and setting each give lead way to an impressive gamemode that puts you in the heart of a real battle. A towering zeppelin, bludgeoning train, and a host of WW1 Era vehicle warfare, takes the atmosphere to a whole new level. The class system has been revamped and balanced as well as new weapons and perks encourage players to experiment to find their niche. In conclusion, this game is for long-time Battlefield fans as well as newcomers alike that want to experience first hand what a true world war was like minus the VR tech. This is an absolute must-buy. Trust and believe that you will experience multiple Battlefield moments.

Can be fun

The single player is pretty decent this time around. Using the war stories format really worked out well with the opening being my favorite bit. I wish the whole campaign kept the that more serious and dark tone. Multiplayer can be a lot of fun but hardcore mode sucks this time around. (I used to almost always play on hardcore servers for BF4) Operations has become my favorite game mode. The battles are intense and get quite crazy sometimes. There are loads of codexes to unlock by doing certain things in the game. After I unlocked all the weapons I found myself having a lot of fun trying to complete the codex challenges and learning about the weapons, battles, and people in the war. Most games I find myself in my team is either dominating or completely getting destroyed. Some players are so horrible at the game that I wish they could just be replaced by bots because then the team would actually have a chance at winning, it's ridiculous. Once in awhile there are those incredible games that are matched perfectly where both teams fight tooth and nail to win. Those are the games that make the purchase worth it. World War 1’s weapon selection is quite limited and DICE tries to get around this by giving you weapon variants instead of individual attachments. This feels more authentic to WW1 but you can really feel the lack of customization here compared to previous games. Loot boxes are in the game but in a pretty basic way. They are mostly just used to unlock a few melee weapons and weapon skins.For the most part I am happy with my purchase. There's a lot to unlock in the game although about half of the weapons are locked behind DLC. I have really enjoyed my time with Battlefield 1 and other than the occasional bugs, balancing issues, and limited weapon variety I think it's a game worth getting if you can get a good deal on it. 4 out of 5 stars.

The beautifully rendered visuals instantly draw the player into the action and explore the war fighting technology of the day. I prefer games to maintain the first-person vantage when operating vehicles, but Battlefield 1 pulls out to RPG-style third person when flying bi-planes or riding horseback. Oddly, operating the tank remains first-person.I have not played online; only the campaign. Gameplay is consistent with other FPS titles. You're confined by borders on the map with specific tasks to achieve to complete a mission. Within those borders, you can go practically anywhere and everywhere, in and out of doors and windows, off of roofs and towers, not just where the authors want you to. This allows you to strategize and engage enemies as you wish and the game knows the difference in hard and soft cover. Changes in lighting as you enter and exit buildings are realistic as your virtual eyes "adjust" to the change and use of binoculars play an important role in being stealthy. Controller button mapping is almost identical to other games, so the learning curve is practically flat.I can't say enough about how beautiful Battlefield 1 is for PS4. In-game graphics are just as impressive as cut scenes, though the CG animation of the cut scenes is cinema quality. Actor performances play a big part in the immersive enjoyment of any game and this cast is excellent.I play on a 55" Sony 4k XBR LED TV, but I don't have a PS4 Pro, so the TV upscales the native HD. The Pro console would only improve on the experience.I would insist that Battlefield 1 is a MUST for any fan of FPS games. Don't expect much action playing as the handsome man from the cover artwork. He doesn't feature much in the game.

Incredible Single Player, Intense Multiplayer

This game is a good shooter for multiple reasons. One reason is that it is pretty universal in terms of guns for the support, recon, medic, and assault. While it is not quite realistic to the time period based on the guns you use, it is not a ww1 simulator, its battlefield. It brought new game modes such as: Operations where you can play as defense which is defending the flags against the attackers who are trying to capture them. War Pigeons is where you get a pigeon, write a note (sort of like capturing a flag) and setting it free to gain a point out of three. And Fog of War which is Hardcore Team death match and normal team death match. The artillary truck which has an AA gun on top of it and a Vickers Mk1 (the normal mounted machine gun in that game) and a new thing called Behemoths. If the enemy team is loosing in operations they will receive a behemoth on most maps you will get an Airship which is a blimp outfitted with powerful explosive round machine guns, and the pilot can drop bombs on top of it there are mounted machine guns (vickers mk1). On other maps where there is water you will receive a Dreadnought, this is a Cruiser with heavy hitting artillary and AA guns. The last behemoth is an Armourd train. This has the same guns as the Dreadnought but with added machine guns (for infantry). This is a fun game in all, but it is for the person who likes fast paced battlefield games, such as bf4 and bf3. So if you liked those games and hardline I would suggest getting this one.

Most beautiful story of all first person shooters

Seamless and fluid transitions from section to section, never slowing down or degrading the graphics (like other games do to make it seem like the games graphics are better than they really are that make them cartoonish). This game is, without a doubt, the best game I have ever played. It's not like another major FPS that comes out with the same game every year with a few minor changes that doesn't really put any effort in the story, you know which one I'm talking about. The stories were incredible, showing some things that soldiers and marines went through on the ground during world war one. Dice did a really good job putting forth the effort, no Honor, to make this game like a memorial to fully appreciate those that sacrificed everything to change the world during the war. My wife almost started crying during a story, because the game showed the full heartbreak of the men when the smoke cleared and they were able to see the devastation and death of those they depended on and loved like brothers, and made it feel like you were right there with them experiencing it. It's not just a one time play and you never touch it again. The game includes things that you have to find during the missions that can help you in multiplayer, so if you miss them, you have to go back through the story some time later to find those items, its a very good incentive to replay it, which I can see myself playing it several times over the years even without that.On to the multiplayer. Again, it's very smooth, a little confusing at first how to actually change your weapons around, not just the little bar on the bottom, you actually have to go into customize screen to "purchase" your weapons for the assault, medic, support, sniper mods. Once that was figured out it's a pretty standard FPS in actions only: i.e. capture the flag type conquer, rush, that sort of thing. That's where it ends comparing it to "duty" games. Almost everything is destroyable. Somebody hiding in a building, put tank rounds into it and bring the whole thing down. And the best part in my mind, not everyone is a sniper that can hit you clear across the map then bring in drones and airstrikes and get 100 kills per game that way, again you know what i'm talking about, even in past battlefield series they did that. NOT IN THIS ONE. That's right, if you don't want to be a team player and work together, you will not do well and the entire team will suffer, just like in real wars, which I have had the unpleasant experience of. That's all I'm going to say, except multiplayer is worth it.So overall, get the game, you will appreciate the stories and the multiplayer. I could probably get rid of all my other games, have just this one, and be happy for quite a while. Again it feels like this was a memorial to those who served and were forgotten by most, so to DICE if you read this, from a former member of the United States Marine Corps, I thank you from the bottom of my heart at how well you honored the men and women who served.

The Battlefield before 1942 Re-imagined

I admit I can be a little biased towards EA's Battlefield series as I've played and loved every single game under their umbrella. BUT! This installment is DICE's way of showing the fans that they listen to them and that they don't follow blindly to trends. Single player is majestic! It's very reminiscent of Call of Duty 3's story mode. Which is not a bad thing! The cutscenes are so realistic you could forget that you're playing a video game and instead watching a real action movie. The scenes are just that real! I can't say the story is particularly deep as I didn't feel too connected to the characters but I felt a sense of empathy. Multiplayer is where the meat of this game resides, though. If you enjoyed the large scale warfare maps of Battlefield 4, then this has equally massive maps plus trenches! The new operations mode is a great new revisioned "rush" mode with an added bohemoth for defensive forces to divert their attention to. The usual formula for an online battlefield game is still here, alive and kicking! For good reason too; it just works! Their new model for battle packs however isn't as rewarding as it was in the last installment '4' and mostly contains skins for vehicle and weapon customization. Aside from this small rewards system aspect, it's still a great game taken back in time.

Battlefield one is the excellent counter to call of duty's infinite warfare, and a perfect answer to the longing of many gamers (myself included) to play a shooter that doesn't cast them as a barely human cyborg, powered by cybernetic implants. It is the difficulty of BF1 that makes it so compelling. It is incredibly inconvenient every time you reload your weapon, and your character takes 30 seconds or so to do it, but at the same time, a little grin creeps on to my face each time it happens. Health is hard to regain, unless you have a medkit, and it is not uncommon to be unable to ADS because of the gasmask on your face, protecting you from a deadly cloud of mustard gas. The Short anthology type stories do a great job of highlighting specific aspects of the war. These stories are extremely moving, as they manage to connect you to the characters and create meaningful development over the course of only three or four levels.BF1 also features an immensely fun multiplayer. The most enjoyable aspect of which is the new operations feature; a bit of a cross between domination, and rush, with the large scale chaos of conquest. One match will take about 3 rounds, and sometimes moves to a different map. Usually at least once in a course of a match, one side is reinforced by a zeppelin, train, or dreadnought battleship. The scope of the matches is monstrous. Each time you spawn in, the camera zooms into a spot on the map, speaking to how small, helpless, and inconsequential each soldier must have felt; especially when there are things like Zeppelins looming in the sky, raining death on all who dare to venture underneath.Whether you are a hardcore fps gamer, or someone who is interested in history, and compelling heroism, Bf1 is a mightily entertaining experience.

bought 2 years old 100 hours play

Bought BF1 recently (almost 2 years after release) and put in about 100 hours to get an idea of the game. I play on the Xbox One. Here is my take on it.Pros : looks 'pretty'...in other words high def and a ton of detailsGame Cons : Rubber banding, game freezes causing a hard reboot of xbox (about 1in5 games), weapons are invisible for about first minute of joining game, some weapons never show leaving you with no sights or any way to aim, game delays causing 'shooting around corners or through obstacles',Play Cons : teams are very uneven and when 'balancing teams', they just take the worst players of the winning team and put them on the losing team, I know it's old now but there's only one game mode people play (operations) so say goodbye to earning the ... MoreBought BF1 recently (almost 2 years after release) and put in about 100 hours to get an idea of the game. It is no surprise considering EA Games loves to destroy franchise games and buyout smaller companies that make great games in order to make money. In short I spent 16 dollars for the game and that's about all it's worth (even if it were new). This game has more issues at 2 years than bf4 had at the 6 month mark. Battlefield had a good run, but this installment shows the run is over, time to find a new team based fps.
