August Wi-Fi, (4th Generation) Smart Lock Fits Your Existing Deadbolt in Minutes, Silver

I bought this item to make life easier in my busy household (2yr old and pregnant wife). I had this product (3rd generation and WiFi bridge) for little over 2 years, while I had it, it made life easy on a day to day even though the bridge would need to be reset every other month. But as of yesterday, my 3rd generation smart lock ceased to operate. The mechanisms and components failed to perform its basic function of opening and locking the door. Today I spoke with a representative and voiced my comments and concerns that their product is cheap and ultimately is an expensive obsolete product. In short I just wanted an exchange, item for item. So buyer be aware, this item sounds great but it will break down on you in a short time. In all honesty you’re better sticking to your original key lock. I only wish I could mail this obsolete junk back to this company.

I have bought and used 2 versions of August smart locks, 3rd gen and 4th gen. I have no issue with 3rd gen and highly recommend. However, 4th gen has been nothing but a nightmare. Set up is relatively easy, even though it took us about an hour instead of 20mins with the 3rd gen. I bought it in March 2022 and it's now Sept 2022 and I have had to change the battery 3 times!! As of 2 days ago, 4th gen wifi disconnected and bluetooth disbaled on the lock and the smart lock does not work anymore. Called August and got someone on the phone; went through all the troubleshooting of factory reset on the phone app, the lock itself and tested on a different phone in case if it was an apple phone issue. I honestly did not want the 4th gen lock again but unfortunately that's what I bought so that's what I'll get again...having to spend more money on replacing those expensive batteries every month then for the wifi to probably fail agian. I HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND buying this piece of crap 4th Gen. Stick to 3rd gen that comes with wifi bridge that's plugged in to the outlet at all time until August have a better solution for this 4th frustrating gen smart lock that's not so smart.

I just replaced my first-gen August lock with a new wi-fi 4th-gen model, together with the wireless keypad. They both work perfectly and are a huge improvement over the old model. The only problem I encountered was with the animated installation instructions. They took a great concept and turned it into trial-and-error frustration. First, the documentation never clearly showed the orientation of the base plate. I discovered it would not work if the wrong faces the door. Next, although the pictures show the new-style adapter, the text describes the old adapter (“install with the small nub facing up”). Third, the adapter selection chart is for the old adapters, and will not work for the new ones.
