Asus ZenWiFi AX Mini XD6S Wireless Router Silver

Not as good as it was made out to be second unit is only 20 feet away from the prime unit on same floor. This may be down to not being suitable for KSA buildings being made of concrete and rebar. Second unit only gets an ok signal strength. Units themselves look nice and are unobtrusive and seem very well built.

This is a pretty average access point. It works mostly, as long as you have quite simple expectations. The web UI has a lot of bugs that make features unavailable for no good reason. For example, in AP mode you can’t supply your own HTTPS certificate because the section of the config is hidden. Luckily if you manually enter the correct URL then you can get it to it. I found you can’t operate a WPA2 PSK on 2.5 GHz and WPA 2 enterprise on 5 GHz, again due to a UI bug. The tech support is as unhelpful as ever, only reading about the first 10 words of the problem, asking redundant questions and just resorting to asking you to factory reset, which if course, doesn’t help. Pinning a device to a specific node doesn’t work. Optimisation is basically useless. I thought this would improve my connection stability but it’s made it worse. My Oculus Quest 2 now randomly disconnects because it’s jumping to a node on the other side of the house, even though it’s right next to one. Connection is worse than the rubbish slingshot router. I don’t know if this is a problem typical with mesh in general, or ASUS in particular. The first ASUS router I bought 15 years ago was a bit of rebadged trash, and I’m not really sure things have improved. Not worth the money, buy TP link or netgear.

Best router I've had

Software is easy to set-up and monitor/control devices that link to the network. I have a busy network with home automation, mobile devices and streaming. Everything runs very smoothly and WIFI reliably at 250mbps ethernet speeds.

Big on performance - Not on size

This mesh two pack provides more coverage and faster speeds than my Orbi RBK53 mesh system did. Significantly faster. Not to mention they are about 1/3 the size which is great! Super easy to setup and more controls than I plan on using.

Excellent mid-range mesh system

Excellent mid-range mesh system - would probably work better for a smart-wired house as there’s no dedicated 5Ghz backhaul channel like there is on the higher up model, but even for a non-wired home it works well.

Great Mesh Wifi 6

Great value mesh wifi 6 performance if you can have Ethernet backhaul connected to each nodes. Strong wifi 6 5ghz, constantly reach 800+ mbps on 1st floor of the house.

Incredible Performance.

WiFi has been an issue in my home for too many years. It was basically the Comcast modem spreading 500mbps WiFi across a very large floor plan. After making everything in the house "smart". Bandwidth was so bad that some rooms were only seeing 10mbps. After reviewing all the options, I went with 2 sets of the XD6. (4 total devices) The main reason was that I could backhaul them and it was a large house. The dual band is perfect for this. All the rooms were prewired with Cat5e jacks when the house was built. Setup was very easy. After connecting them into 4 corners of my house, WiFi signal strength is exceptional. Pros: Didn't realise how 'slow' my old wi-fi 5 router and power line adaptors were compared to this (wi-fi 6).Wi-Fi coverage is much improved, and especially so using Mesh (with a wired ethernet connection).Cons: A little on the pricy side.

No brainer installation

They solved the poor signal I had at home. The highlight for me was the installation. I was expecting some network drama to get the on, and it was totally the opposite. I turned them on, opened tbe Asus app, add node to mesh, and done! I wish everything else was that complicated to install 😂

Worked Great for 6 Months

Couldn't edit my previous review, so I am leaving another one. Truly disappointed that this mesh system lasted only 6 months before it started flaking out. Started getting a rapid flashing red light on the node. Tried updating to the latest firmware, a hard reset, and finally a factory reset. Swapped the position of the router and the node since either can act as a router or a node. The problem followed the node. Seemed pretty straight forward. Initially the online customer support was excellent with good communication and reasonable requests and try to make me jump through meaningless "troubleshooting" steps like unplug to device and plug it back in after 30 seconds. Video of the hardware showing the flashing lights in both the node and router location. I had to create a new admin id and password, extract the syslog and config file and send it to them. Provide the firmware version/MAC ID's and Serial numbers for both devices. Send them a full breakdown of the topology of our network. Then they started asking me to go through basic troubleshooting steps that we had thankfully skipped initially.All of this while I am struggling to work from home and log my work laptop back onto our VPN every 20-30 min.Like I said in my original review, I was thrilled with the performance and size of the devices initially, but 6 months is laughable from a longevity perspective. If you do end up rolling the dice on this model and this company, do yourself a favor and buy the extra coverage, you're likely to need it. My Orbi system may not had the same performance as this, but as they say in professional sports, the best ability is availability. That goes doubly true for Wi-Fi.I will be moving on to another brand.
