Great motherboardRan perfectly out of the boxNot too many options out there for DDR5 , Z790 chipset and Wi-Fi included. Having a rear I/O shield sealed the deal for me.Instructions were super clean.Box included everything I needed for the install. As 13th Gen Intel processors become more mainstream this will be a great mid market motherboard with a clean white aesthetic

The Asus Prime Z790-A WiFi is a competent and solid motherboard that gets what I needed done with few extras, a few problems and for an unimpressive price.I needed a 13th Gen Intel-capable motherboard. Z690 motherboards that allow CPU-less BIOS updates (needed for Gen 13 install) are almost as expensive as this was. I also wanted a better-than-basic audio CODEC. So I spent a bit more to get a few fewer features to avoid some potential hassle and get the audio feature that was important to me.Unfortunately, the Windows 11 install hit a brick wall at Network Setup. You have to use something like ctl-F12 to open up a command prompt and run some commands that wonât end up working.I realized the install screen looked like a windows desktop. I was able to ctl-alt-delete and then run explorer. From there I browsed to where I needed to be and double-clicked on the Asus network driver install utility and everything worked fine from that point on.With default settings, everything worked great. Solid and snappy.Unfortunately, my Scythe Fuma 2 isn't quite capable of dissipating the 250 watts of full-throttle heat. Through the windows tweaking utility and BIOS settings, I was able to reduce the CPU voltage to the point no throttling occurs. The process would be easier if the BIOS structure was more like the AI Suite app. But I'm glad the options are there. Finally, thereâs severe mouse stuttering during USB Drive access. The PC is basically unusable while you are transferring files from a USB drive.I expect that problem to be resolved in a future BIOS update. Iâm on version 0602 dated 2022-09-21.

I can truly say this is an improved version with more features, better IO, more settings in the BIOS to play around with, supports 2 more NVMe SSDs (I am running 3 NVMe SSDs 1 of which is Gen4, other 2 are Gen3 and 3 more SATA SSDs), my RTX 3080 still runs at X16 speed which is excellent but this is due to Z790 chipset more than anything.-The only thing this board is missing compared to B550-A version is a BIOS Flash USB w/ a Button on top on the back of the IO. It would be nice to have just in case.-Overall this is an excellent mobo and for most people this would be more than enough for gaming, streaming, content creation. It's also a great board for overclocking 13600K, 13700K, 13900K. There's no need to spend more unless you're going to extreme measures and looking to watercool your mobo.
There really isn't much to say when everything is performing to expectations. After maybe a month of use, I've had no problems. While I wanted a board capable of overclocking in the future, I'd rather keep things at stock and not deal with the hassle factor of unnecessary crashes or instability.Asus Prime Z790-A WifiIntel i7-13700KCorsair Vengance DDR5 32GB (2x16) 5600Noctua NH-U12S chromax.BlackSamsung 980 ProGigabyte GTX 1080
Prior to installing this motherboard visit the ASUS website to download the latest bios. Also, I looked at their memory compatibility list. If you are using a LAN or WIFI connection be sure to download the drivers from the asus website. Extract the bios and drivers to a USB drive. After updating the bios I then installed Windows. Good thing it asked me during the install if I had any drivers and I directed it to the USB drive. If I did NOT do this there would have been no way to connect to the internet during the install process. This board works well and no compatibility/install issues with my DDR5 6000hz CL30 G. Skill RAM.I can't give 5 Stars but I would if the price were better.
At the time of this review, the listed price for this motherboard is $300. I upgraded this motherboard out of necessity since I upgraded from an LGA1151 CPU to an LGA1700 CPU. My LGA1151 motherboard was ~$250, but yet had more PCIe slots, M.2 slots, and less bandwidth bifurcation. This motherboard also takes a good solid 5-10 seconds to POST on boot. Somehow I'm paying more for a more recent product but yet I'm getting worse performance.
I bought this board upgrading to an Intel 13900k and while everything's currently running great, there are some noticeable quirks that i'm not sure are intentional.- No generic driver for the onboard WiFi loads during Windows setup (even with a fresh image) so you'll need to install that manually since Windows 11 doesn't allow for offline account creation anymore- There's a gap in the supported memory modules from G.Skill where 32GB kits @ 5600, 6000, 6800, and 7200 are supported but not 6400 and my own CL32 6400 kit isn't stable with XMP. (Downclocking to 6000 resolves this)- This one is intentional, but the 13900k's power limits by default are turned off. So instead of a max power target of 253 watts (Intel spec) Asus auto settings will remove the limit. ... MoreI bought this board upgrading to an Intel 13900k and while everything's currently running great, there are some noticeable quirks that i'm not sure are intentional.- No generic driver for the onboard WiFi loads during Windows setup (even with a fresh image) so you'll need to install that manually since Windows 11 doesn't allow for offline account creation anymore- There's a gap in the supported memory modules from G.Skill where 32GB kits @ 5600, 6000, 6800, and 7200 are supported but not 6400 and my own CL32 6400 kit isn't stable with XMP. This is i'm assuming to improve benchmark performance, but had me confused as to why my 253 watt chip was reaching 324 watts under a synthetic load.I think I'd probably make a different choice if I were to do this again, but assuming none of those things bother you then it performs the same as any other board.
Great motherboard with updated DDR5 memory and ability to house 13th gen Intel processors. Used this in a rebuild with some older components as a big upgrade to processor and memory speed. Had a slight issue that proved difficult to fix when I could not get the BIOS setup screen to display for many, many attempts. Finally had to disconnect the two HD's and was able to get the board to boot to setup. The BIOS was about 4 generations old and required an update, but afterwards everything works great. Nice features with the GPU release button and good access to all features.
This motherboard makes for a solid all around mid to high range computer build. I've paired it with a 13700kf and 2x16gb DDR5 7000 ram. I actually bought 7200 ram but on the box, it says this motherboard maxes out at 7000. I verified this by struggling to get 7200 stable for a long time before realizing it wasn't supported. I was getting persistent game crashing and one blue screen until I knocked it down one notch to 7000 and now it's perfectly stable. Not the motherboards fault, just user error. However, it is worth noting that it doesn't seem to support the absolute fastest ram which is probably not necessary anyway. Overall, the motherboard is well made and I especially love the tool-less/screw-less m.2 drive installation. However, it is worth noting that it doesn't seem to support the absolute fastest ram which is probably not necessary anyway. Overall, the motherboard is well made and I especially love the tool-less/screw-less m.2 drive installation. Made for a quick and easy building process. The heat shielding for the m.2 drives is a nice touch, albeit likely unnecessary. It comes with sticky thermal pads pre installed; you simply peel and install over the drives. It can be a bit finicky if you don't place it perfectly and it sticks so now you're trying to rip it off of your drives without damaging them to get it seated properly, but it's not the end of the world. Because 13th gen Intel runs so hot I haven't tried overclocking, but I'd imagine this board would handle a modest overclock. The stock performance is already good enough for me that I'm not sure I'll try. I would definitely recommend this motherboard for an i5 or i7 build and I'm sure it would work with an i9. But if you're spending that much anyway, I would probably get a different motherboard with more overkill vrm.
