My college son has been primarily using Apple since he first started working on a computer for school. His current statistics class suggested a PC, so he asked for one (I know his learning curve will be a little large, my kids aren’t as tech savvy as me, but that’s a different story). So I shopped for an Asus laptop (this was my third Asus laptop, I also have a ROG pc and all Asus Wi-Fi, so yeah, I’m a fan). This laptop is great - I needed one I could expand memory (I took it to 20gb for his programming, which needed at least 16gb). I knew he’d love the flip feature (my others are ZenBooks, which I have always loved). I’m not sure he’ll use the pen, but he’s excited to try it, and it came with the laptop, so cool! Now I cross my fingers that I’m not doing TOO much Microsoft training on my downtime! Love my Asus stuff.

Overall, very snappy and responsive in real day to day usage. The heatsink is actually capable of holding boost clocks decently well for the size, and the fan isn't annoyingly loud.Battery life - the 42Whr battery lasts you about 4-7 hours, depending on the nature of the task (lower for videos or reddit scrolling, higher for simple reading). If you use RyzenAdj to cripple the CPU performance/wattage, it can get 7-10 hours on battery life.GPU - the Vega iGPU isn't enough to play modern games comfortably, but it can get by. CSGO Dust II with 7 bots ran at 90-160 FPS, about 120-130 FPS average, on 720p, and 70-110 FPS, or about 80-90 FPS average, on 1080p. Doesn't feel buttery smooth - there's significant latency - but it's doable and would work with an fps limiter.Chassis - solid, hefty hunk of plastic. I don't have doubts about the hinge - it's firm, maybe a bit too firm, since it takes a bit of effort to open with one hand. The plastic is an oil/fingerprint magnet.Disassembly/upgradability - a P1 screwdriver can get you inside the chassis, where you can access the RAM, SSD, and Wifi card. RAM and SSD are under an unnecessarily taped-down heat shield that requires a lever to pop off. Wifi is easily accessible. I changed the ram to 8gb 2666 CL19, the wifi card from 8265 to 9260, and swapped out the thermal paste for Noctua NT-H1, and the process took less than half an hour. Note that if you upgrade the RAM, it will run at the lower of the two clocks and it will also run dual channel only for the first 4 4gb.Screen: Pretty mediocre and washed out, but you get what you paid for. I haven't tried using a pen with it yet, but it looks like it should work with any MPP pen.Other: Fingerprint sensor is fast. No USB C charging is a bummer. Keyboard is pretty good. Sound isn't exceptionally good quality but it's adequately loud and doesn't get distorted at higher volumes. Bloatware is minimal - there's just mcafee and some asus specific software.

I was looking for a laptop in the $500 price range with good spec and some expandability. The Vivibook you get a RyZen 5 5500u with 6 cores and 12 threads for which should meet your production and multi-tasking needs.Pair that with 8GB I’d DDR4 (expands to 16GB) and an ultra fast NVME SSD (also upgradeable) and you have a fast and sleek 2 in 1 laptop that won’t break the bank. The first thing you notice when unboxing the laptop is the metal blue/gray shell which immediately feels premium. While the chassis is mostly high quality plastic, it’s treated with the same brush metal look as the metal housing for the display. On to the display…It’s an IPS-like display likely an ADS which offers better contrast, but lacks overall screen brightness. At 250nits the display ... It may struggle if your outdoors in the sun, but under normal conditions it offers good performance and viewing angles. One of the most important aspects of a laptop outside of specs is definitely usability, so a good keyboard/track pad are key to a good user experience. The keyboard while not mechanical offers a satisfying click and travel when typing. The keyboard feels a little cramped for my giant hands at first, but after short use I adapted and have been loving it.The trackpad is another important factor. While this model doesn’t offer the keypad version found on the higher end model, it does feel like it has a glass construction with smooth response and a nice click when pressed.Side note: I recently owned one of the new Gateway laptops which was returned for the Asus. The gateway offered slightly better specs on paper, but the construction was poor out of the box. Keyboard/trackpad were unresponsive and felt cheap vs the Asus.I am happy with my purchase and if your in the market for a 2 in 1 Laptop on a budget, but don’t want to compromise on quality than the Vivobook is for you.
Great value in an innovative laptop! This is a very capable and wonderful machine that makes terrific use of the excellent Ryzen 5000 series processor chip, which I sought out over Intel. The laptop is relatively lightweight for a 2-in-1, is extremely fast and responsive, (especially the fingerprint reader,) and fulfilled all of my wishes and needs. The display was bright and vivid, and it was able to handle multitasking quite well. It's wonderful to have the functionality of being able to use it as a tablet or with a keyboard, and is especially great for real estate pros to take to client meetings to show properties either on the tablet or with the very useful HDMI port. I did both, very easily connecting to my client's large screen TV.The only fault I could ... I did both, very easily connecting to my client's large screen TV.The only fault I could give it is for not providing basic instructions in the box to point out its features and tell you how to turn on the backlit keyboard which was a desired function. It also would have been nice to see a second USB-C port in addition to the two USB ports. Unfortunately because the basic instructions were missing, I was so disappointed that I thought it was defective. At the last minute I decided to do a Google search and discovered that it was indeed an inherent function and was possible to turn on the backlit keyboard manually, but it just wasn't an automatic function unless activated.Personally, I use a LAN cable to hook up to the internet for better security against hacking, and spend at least 2 to 6 hours a day on the computer. I wasn't as happy using a dongle to facilitate this, as there was no LAN port, but it worked fine nonetheless, and ASUS actually provides LAN cable dongles with some of the models, though not this one.Overall I thought this was a great laptop and especially loved the color block on the enter key which was really innovative and definitely useful. Overall it's a GREAT laptop and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Bought this from Best Buy to use while my work MacBookPro was in for repairs. Got 50% off special sale - AWESOME MACHINE - as fast as my 5 year old mac (I7 processor)Windows 11 took a short time to get back in touch with - did a great job of copying myfiles / apps from my prevous windows machine which was still up to date. Can't say enough - this is going to be my "hot standby" work machine - I'll take it on theroad with me so it always stays up to date with my cloud files and apps.GREAT VALUE!!!!
I am highly dissatisfied with the warranty regarding the laptop I bought. I needed to have a simple screen replacement change and ASUS has not even shipped the part despite the order for the parts being requested over a month ago. They have not been replying to my micro center technician’s emails requesting for updates and have been repeatedly delaying the shipment of the replacement screen. This inconvenience has been detrimental in school and work as I was relying on my laptop (and the warranty, should anything have happened I would hypothetically get it fixed on time). The laptop itself is fine, but if you want insurance, you’re better off paying out of pocket to fix it or replace it yourself rather than wasting your time with customer service.
I am doing this review for an extended 90 day warranty. Ironically, I returned this laptop to walmart and bought a zenbook 14 q408ug from micro center - I cant review that laptop for the extended warranty because it doesnt show up in the list on their bazaarvoice list of products. To make matters worse, I found the USB ports to be buggy when using several different USB wifi and ethernet adapters. The storage and memory is upgradable so that's a plus. Ended up going with a zenbook 14 - the screen isnt as nice, isn't touchscreen, and the memory isnt upgradable, but at least the wifi works. Both have issues with MyAsus and the function keys not working properly when waking and must be reset. I find myself being less and less impressed with Asus's always half-baked integration and optimization of software.Lastly, Walmart's online listing of this laptop shows that it has the numpad trackpad - it does not. Asus needs to get their poop in a group when it comes to pushing out promotional material with their products.
Been having the laptop for 2 years now and only problems ive had with it were because of human error. I have dropped my laptop from my waist level and as expected it got a small dent from hard floors. Barely noticeable so I dont know what the other review did from a 2 foot drop to do THAT much damage to it. I also stepped on it by accident and the screen was cracked but still usuable for a whole semester (i disabled the touch screen drivers though)until i took it to geek squad to get fixed.
