First of all, this board looks superb and has a nice 'glitched' design to the Asus ROG logo. At its current price on CCL, it a very attractive package, with many features that you wouldn't find on similarly priced X570 boards. For instance, you get Intel LAN and WLAN, which I'd take over Realtek any day of the week, for impeccable WiFi and Ethernet speeds/connection. The included dac/amp package in SupremeAudioFX is much better than the usual, especially now that there is the inclusion of 3.2gen usb type C on the I/O panel, supplied with a usb type C to 3.5mm cable. With the 14+2 power stage, it only seems logical that this board will withstand future CPU upgrades, such as the upcoming Ryzen 4xxx series. Very glad to see both debug leds and a post code LEDs, makes troubleshooting a breeze, if you ever have to do it. The uefi bios is superb as always, much better than what I have had to face with the competition, and easily navigable by beginner and advanced users. This is a great example board of the splendid Asus ROG quality.

I’m not a gamer but the build quality required for stable overclocking makes for a superb base for a general workhorse. I don’t care about the leds so won’t comment on them. I can comment on the clean build quality, and the support for running one NVMe M.2 ssd on a lovely fast pcie4 bus. The heat sink on this seems pretty substantial, I’m not convinced by the sticky pad for attaching it, seems rather thick but so far so good. For a B550 this is certainly at the front of the field and I’m happy with my purchase.

Great choice! This motherboard has lots of features and is among the top rated for this class!
29 August 2020

When it comes to selecting a motherboard, there are LOTS of choices out there. It took me a good, two weeks, before I finally decided on this one. I watched many Youtube clips, read lots of reviews. At first I thought about going with an Intel board, but after all the reviews out there, it seems AMD Ryzen is all the rage, so.... I went with an AMD board. While this board is rated for Gaming, I wanted a system I could use for video editing. Pretty much any gaming board will suffice. This board may actually be overkill for video editing, but I like the fact that it will support two m.2 SSD drives, and has expansion slots for additional graphics cards, as well as two PCIe slots. I can add additional gadgets to this system if I really wanted to. While wired eithernet is the way to go, I saw that this board had built-in wi-fi, so I thought, "Why not have that??" It also has usb 3. header on the front, & header for thunderbolt, if I ever wanted to add that. On the rear, it has 4 standard usb 2.0 ports, 2 usb 3.0 ports, plus a "mini" usb 3 port you may connect your mobile device to. Pretty sweet! This board has RGB lighting, but it's discrete, and not like Las Vegas. I like that. Even though the lighting is discrete, you may configure it with software, AND it can be sync'd with third party software as well, which is great. The board has RGB headers at the top AND the bottom of the board. (Two headers each, for standard and addressable, at top and bottom of board) Installing the CPU on this board was VERY easy! I went with the Ryzen 9 3900X. WOW! (Yes, the 550 chipset DOES support it!). One thing to keep in mind though, if you go with this particular CPU; it doesn't have built-in graphics. So what this means, is although there are connections on the I/O shield on the back of this board for a video monitor, you will not get any video output from those ports if you go with the Ryzen 9 series cpu's. You'll need to install a graphics card. (For video editing, OF COURSE you'll put one in) I love this board!!!!

Built in Wifi 6 worked straight out the box, no need to install drivers in Windows. The antennae for the Wifi is also nice as you can move it around for optimal signal.Cons: Rear case fan header could be in a better location. I had to run the rear case fan cable over the IO shield/heatsinks, it would be better to have this at the top left corner of the motherboard so the fan cable does not have to run over other components.

The board itself is very easy to build with. There are several board makers with similar competitive products such as Asrock, MSI, and Gigabyte. Most of these check off the features I want as did this board. I didn't need the RGB, but I'll take it, I don't hate it. With a BIOS update, my usb issues seemed to go away, so I'm glad that this was fixed, although I see some early adopters spent a couple months dealing with these issues. It's a little odd to see the update progress slowly and then 2 more reboots while it updates led firmware and something else. I like the included accessory antenna for the wifi. Pretty nice board, but may need to update bios
26 January 2021

I was looking at B550 boards and was considering the Strix F model (based both on the VRM tier list and its looks, not gonna lie) but Micro Center had an open-box B550-E, so I jumped at the chance for a discounted upgrade. This board has a Q-code panel and bios Flashback, which I thought would be helpful if not possibly necessary for my first Ryzen build using a 5600x, but fortunately the factory bios (1004) in my board POSTed without issue. However, despite my G.skill 3600mhz RAM being on the QVL, the motherboard did not immediately detect the DOCP settings (this may have been due to it being open box though) and I had to clear the CMOS before it would auto-detect the rated speed. However, despite my G.skill 3600mhz RAM being on the QVL, the motherboard did not immediately detect the DOCP settings (this may have been due to it being open box though) and I had to clear the CMOS before it would auto-detect the rated speed. However, whether I set the DOCP settings manually or it set them itself, the system would not POST if I attempted a cool boot after unplugging the PSU. After installing Windows 10 and getting the system operational at base memory speeds, I flashed the bios to version 1401 and have not had any issue since. The system auto-set DOCP settings, and I have successfully cold and warm booted and run renders, games, etc. with the memory running at its rated 3600mhz speed and without any stability issues as of this review. Beyond that I have found the features of this board to be quite nice, and I really like the Strix aesthetics too. The RGB looks great and Aura is easy enough to use, though the "Strix" lights on the chipset are mostly covered by my phat graphics card, and the bios setting to turn all RGB off when the system is powered down/sleeping does not seem to stay checked when I save the bios settings... Hopefully another bios update will take care of that (I have not tried the two newer beta releases yet). Overall I would recommend this board if you are looking for a high performance B550 board and don't mind some potential fiddling around.

Pros: Good board, looks nice, no major issues.RGB is nice, but minimal. Links up nicely with Corsair iCUE software. I don't currently have any RGB components hooked up to the motherboard to see if they are also controllable through iCUE.Has a front USB 3.2 header (only asus ATX B550 board that has it, can be had for much less from other brands, unless you got the promotion). Some nice software 'bundled'. This is apparently a ROG benefit that I wasn't initially aware of. I didn't use the included disk, but noticed it it in the manual, e.g. DTS Sound Unbound is included which automatically activated after downloading it from the Windows store, Norton antivirus too, apparently, but haven't tried it yet.Cons: Rear fan partially blocks rgb strix logo.No space between ... MorePros: Good board, looks nice, no major issues.RGB is nice, but minimal. STRIX B550E GAMING
1 July 2020

ASUS STRIX B550 E GAMING, RYZEN 9 3900X BUILD...A great little motherboard, with some fantastic features...There are enough fan headers inc AIO if that's your preference...After a little messing around with my setup, I managed to have enough USB connections too, it could maybe do with a few more USB 3.0 on the rear panel for my liking but you read the sale page and make your choice, so can't complain...hahaIt looks great in the case with all its fancy RGB if you like that, + alongside the 1080ti Strix, stunning...EK Waterblock Quantum Velocity keeps it running cool...The Corsair HX750i runs this no problem, RDR 2 and TC Breakpoint approx 350w while gaming, with all my setup. That doesn't seem to break a sweat...Custom H20 @ 2 x XSPC RX360s, D5 Laing ... MoreASUS STRIX B550 E GAMING, RYZEN 9 3900X BUILD...A great little motherboard, with some fantastic features...There are enough fan headers inc AIO if that's your preference...After a little messing around with my setup, I managed to have enough USB connections too, it could maybe do with a few more USB 3.0 on the rear panel for my liking but you read the sale page and make your choice, so can't complain...hahaIt looks great in the case with all its fancy RGB if you like that, + alongside the 1080ti Strix, stunning...EK Waterblock Quantum Velocity keeps it running cool...The Corsair HX750i runs this no problem, RDR 2 and TC Breakpoint approx 350w while gaming, with all my setup. That doesn't seem to break a sweat...Custom H20 @ 2 x XSPC RX360s, D5 Laing etc....I tried the Ryzen with the Prism cooler and they can run a little warm for my liking, in my home office environment...You also see the core temps fluctuating 10oC here and there, there is quite a bit of talk about this across the web, so nothing to worry about, I don't think. I think it is just how it reads it with the software.I really like the board and layout, I look forward one day to maybe trying a PCI-E 4 M.2 Card in it ...The only issue I had was regarding memory, I was using my older 2013 Gskill Trident Z "E Die" I was trying not to have to upgrade that too...AMD Ryzens tend to focus towards "B Die" nowadays for greater compatibility...The memory in question 3400MHz C16 and I could only run it stable at 3000Mhz, maybe something to look at as a future upgrade...I haven't spent a long time looking into this yet, might work with different timings, voltages etc... So still testing that...But even at 3000Mhz, it runs really fast, a great setup...Overall I feel a decent Mobo, I did watch a lot of videos across the web before purchasing as this mobo is fairly new out. It was between this and the X570...My choice was this maybe as it was newer model out and had the features I needed...I also compared this to a 9900K setup, but at the price point and core count, for my usage I thought I would try AMD for a change, I must say I'm very happy...I'm not an AMD or Intel fanboy, I do like bang for the buck and right now this for me is that alongside the fact the B550E GAMING will accept the next-gen of CPU, was worth a consideration...Great Mobo...!!!

Pros: After extensive research I chose the Asus B550-E for the built in WiFi if I may ever need it in the future. The motherboard itself was a great experience for a first time builder to use everything down to the details on the board were marked and as I was referencing back to the manual it matched up perfectly making the installation seem less. It has more than enough USBS on the back for most people and even a usb c. The bios is Super easy to function and I didn’t have any trouble navigating and settings ram speeds to function at rated speeds. ASUS did a grand job of the design and colour scheme of this motherboard and it works well within my new build. The motherboard runs silent. Regardless the motherboard is a great piece of kit from ASUS, the Q Code can be ... MorePros: After extensive research I chose the Asus B550-E for the built in WiFi if I may ever need it in the future. Regardless the motherboard is a great piece of kit from ASUS, the Q Code can be blissful if errors occurred but I didn’t have any issues that I’d have to refer to any error codes. Amazing piece of hardware that has everything or more than what you would need. Good options for PCIE 4.0 tooCons: Asus aura lighting and armoury crate (for RGB lighting) is a little bit sketchy set my lighting scheme and it still seems to not want to remember the settings and just presets to factory on boot up.
