Washing instructions state "Do not submerge" and suggest tamping with wet soapy cloth. Good luck getting the stink out with that method. I remove the chest protector, hang and lightly hose it down, then reattach chest protector and hang dry, so far, so good. It would be a five star product if it was equipped with side rib protection similar to the A-10. Also, additional color options would be nice. Black is not my first choice of colors for HOT sunny conditions.

This is well made and seems a good product, but I have two issues: First, I have the Alpinestars Nucleon KR3 road racing back protector which appears similar to what's on the Bionic Tech V2 jacket. It's the most comfortable back protector I've ever worn, so I expected to like this one. Instead, I find this one fits like a board, there's no articulation to match the curve of your lower back and I'm always aware of it across my shoulders. The bigger problem with this jacket is that it rides up during use. In ordinary trail riding worn under a jersey it moves up my back until the back protector is seriously interfering with my helmet on down-hills. Bionic Tech V2 - WAY Small
10 June 2024

The jacket was exactly what I wanted - breathable, lightweight, protection in the right spots. Unfortunately, even after reading reviews saying it ran small and buying a 2XL (I usually wear XL and can occasionally squeeze into an L) this thing is impossible to put on. Unless you're very sure of your size, be wary. A slimmer than me friend tried this on and had the same feedback, but when his appropriately sized Bionic Tech V3 came in he was over the moon with fitment. Perhaps they made some adjustments in the sizing between gens?

Great armor with tricky sizing
26 May 2020

So far this armor is impressive, but let me give you some sizing advice first.I'm 6"3", 205 lbs and wear a XXL comfortably. According to the size chart, i'm an XL, but I exchanged the XL for XXL due to it being a lot more comfortable. If you have long arms, a long torso, or a big chest, consider sizing up. I'm a pretty lean guy (43" chest, 33" waist), but still found the compression material far too tight around the chest. When reaching for the bars, the fabric pulled on my lats and shoulders, not allowing for full reach to the bars. Super uncomfortable. Sizing up fixed that. If you have a long torso, size up as well or it'll ride up your waist too high. Worst of all are the arms, which are still slightly short even on the XXL. If you have a long torso, size up as well or it'll ride up your waist too high. Worst of all are the arms, which are still slightly short even on the XXL. If you have long arms, size up FOR SURE. The overall difference wasn't huge between sizes, so you'll have to fine tune your fit.Haven't ridden in the armor yet, but so far I like the material. The compression material that holds it all together could be softer and more comfortable directly on the skin, but it's tougher than most other compression materials that i've seen on armor, so you can wear this solo without a problem. I would feel confident in this material holding up in a crash. The elbows have some nice abrasion resistant material, so it's tough enough to be worn without a jersey or jacket over it (but not on the street! This would get shredded on pavement). The breathability seems good if you're moving, haven't really tested that yet on the bike. It has a very light feeling overall, should do well in hot climates. In comparison to the Leatt 5.5 armor, I can tell that this breathes better just from putting it on.The chest and back armor are solid. Back armor feels substantial and goes pretty low down the back. The floating chest design is a great idea. It allows you to move your upper body around with much less restriction that most other armor. Really comfortable. It has lots of slots in it for airflow and holes in the foam under the plastic to help air flow. Shoulders and elbow pads are softer plastic, but feel strong enough to take a direct impact on a rock. Not as good as hard plastic, but the ability to move your arms around more easily is worth it. There are small patches of thin foam between the armor plates which provide minimal protection. Nice to see some on the ribs, since most armor offers no padding there at all. The waist belt is very loose on my XXL, but you can adjust it quite a bit or remove it completely if you want. You can pop the top off the back protector to make room for a neck brace. My Atlas Air brace BARELY fits with the back plate removed. It's not a perfect fit, but still does it's job and is comfortable. Obviously a Alpinestars brace would fit perfectly. The little tabs that hold the brace on are convenient and make wearing a neck brace very easy. I wear my brace over the armor on the front and back, as I find that the most comfortable option. If you wear yours against the skin, you can tuck the front in under the chest armor, but not the back, although it sits almost on the skin with the back plate removed. It ain't cheap, but this armor is the closest to a perfect set that I have found. Very comfortable, good mobility and airflow, solid protection, and works with a brace.

Listen here's the deal. This gear is great, but if you have any kind of gut or if you're carrying even just a few extra pounds in the midsection, figure something else out. This will not fit you regardless of what size you get. Dont kid yourself bud, you're not that 20 year old kid with washboard abs anymore. They'll try to tell you it will stretch out and fit, but you'll have a better chance getting into that pair of jeans from high school. Good luck with that zipper????

NOT JUST FOR OFF ROAD, great for street use during those very hot and humid summer days.

I purchased this armored top to wear while riding on the street during Florida?s hot and extremely humid summer days. During such rides you need the maximum amount of air flow you can possibly get so you don?t broil in the heat and high humidity. Trying to wear your normal armoured riding leathers would have you passing out from heat exhaustion every time you got stuck at a traffic light. It?s simply too hot and humid here in Florida during the summer months. Just getting on your bike while wearing your armoured leathers alone would have you loosing 5 pounds in sweat. And yet, the solution I see numerous riders resort to is wearing nothing more than a T-shirt and often even shorts while ditching their helmet as well. If you can?t be bothered to protect yourself when it?s hot, then just park your bike until it cools down. Accidents don?t discriminate according to humidity and temperatures and the pavement will equally grind your skin away regardless. So while these armoured tops are typically advertised for off road use, there?s no reason why they can?t be as effective on the road. They?re far superior to wearing nothing more than a T-shirt. Manufacturers really need to stop pushing armoured shirts for just off road. The armoured shirts manufacturers actually make that are specifically geared for on road use are FAR TOO INADEQUATE for the small amount of protection they offer. Those typically consist of little more than strategically placed foam pads that are completely inadequate in a real crash. I?ll wear full leathers for around 8 months out of the year, but when the temperature climbs into the red zone, it?s time to hang up the leathers and find an alternative to the armoured leathers. This top can be worn by itself or under a long sleeve shirt or hoodie. The fit is perfect, and like most items from Alpinestars, quality is top notch. I recommend being extra careful while donning and doffing, as the thinner material is meant to maximize wind flow while keeping the armour in it?s correct places. Hopefully you?ll never actually need it, but when you do, you?ll slide on the armour and not the shirt material itself. This is a product, like a helmet, that should be replaced after taking a tumble, as chances are that enough damage will be done to the stitching to allow the armour to shift away from it?s proper placement. I?m a very muscular 5?3?, 175 pound man and the size Medium fits perfect.

Sizing runs really small....
12 September 2023

Just received my jacket today. Shipping was fast as usual. However, the sizing for Alpinestars has always been on the smaller scale. I ordered one size up (2xl) and it was still way too small. I'm 6' and weigh 220lbs with a 46" chest and the 2xl felt like a medium. Couldn't even zip up the front, lol. The jacket is made with quality material and is a little heavy. The protection pads appear to be of high quality. It would be nice if Alpinestar would make bigger sizes. I guess I'll be buying Fox gear since they fit better.

Works great! I used mine out in the desert the week I bought it. I supermanned onto a gravel wash when I rolled into some deep sand on my adventure bike and the jacket did its job. The chest plate and elbow pads absorbed the bulk of the blow and were no worse for the wear.I'm 6'1" 215lbs and the XL fits well enough. I have long legs and arms with a short upper torso - so everything but the back pad (which is a little too long and catches on the the seat) fits perfectly. Only other thing I'd change would be making it washable. This is hot weather gear and Febreze only does so much.
