AKG D7 Dynamic Vocal Microphone
The AKG D 7 delivers the subtle, open, detailed sound of a condenser microphone, while maintaining the rugged reliability and ease of control of a dynamic microphone. At the heart of the D 7's design is AKG's Laminate Varimotion diaphragm which allows precise response tuning without resonators. Thanks to the Laminate Varimotion diaphragm, the D 7 delivers beautifully-detailed sound, amazing response consistency at any SPL and absolutely incredible gain-before-feedback. You'll find that the D 7 always sounds right even on the loudest stages. The D 7 also features a built-in high-pass filter that cuts out unwanted low frequencies, minimizes handling noise, and provides superior audio clarity and intelligibility. AKG's dynamic microphone also features a hum bucking coil that greatly reduces interference from electrical devices - ensuring that only pure vocal sounds come through. The D 7 isn't just a pretty package - it features a super-song, heavy-duty die-cast chassis with a thick, dent-resistant grille screen that can easily handle the inevitable accidents that happen in live performances on the road. The mic is also equipped with a gold-plated XLR-type output connector for loss-free signal transfer. The sum total of D 7's technology is a reference-quality dynamic microphone that offers complete control for singers and speakers and, therefore, a better listening experience for audiences. Its precise, detailed sound quality, mind-boggling gain-before-feedback, low handling noise and road-tough reliability ensure you'll be seeing and hearing D 7s on stage with leading performers for a long time!

I have a unit for one year and have been using it for all vocal recordings (in my home stutio) for my band since then. It's no surprise for me that it's capsule is known as "refference". Since it's the best mic I own, I avoid bringing it to the road, but I have used if a couple times in reharsals and the result was just spectacular. I experienced a great sound capture with NO FEEDBACK AT ALL even in moments when I was closer to the speakers than I should. My advice is: If you want a dynamic to make you impressed with a studio-like quality in live situations, just buy it!

The C7 supercardioid mic is amazing. I love using this mic. It feels good. I have virtually no feedback and the capsule (24 carat gold) in it is amazing and works well with my voice. It also has very little handling noise so I can beat on it or swing it around without that unwanted noise coming through the pa system. Its also very durable (like I said, I swing it around and tend to hit things....sometimes)

For some singers this is better than the SM58, but it depends on the singer. Use mainly on 'loud without mic' female vocals as seems to tolerate them better and let them have better position control, where in some instances would be too far away for 58. This could also be do with having a higher GBF than 58 in most cases in exact same position.

This mic is like having studio quality sound in your hand in a live setting. The C7 sports an open-space capsule which was designed to reduce feedback, and it works! I could get really close to the monitors and no squeal from the C7. And little bumps and taps didn't make it into my sound, just my vocals due to the shock absorbing suspension.
This is a great microphone for performing vocals. I often love the way condensers sound for live vocal performances. This is a great choice for vocalist if they can use phantom power while performing. All around good microphone. This review is from Ellis at Sam Ash in Richmond, Va.
I have used this microphone in numerous settings....its intended use as a live dynamic mic fits it well, but I also love using it to mic instruments for recording...with just this mic and my OM series Martin, I get better tone than with any number of my more expensive condenser mics. What really sets this purchase above the rest though is the service I received. I have been using these mics as borrowed pieces up until now and my own D7 is in the mail on its way to me. Thanks to my "gear head" at MF, I got a discount through the price match program and despite a lengthy game of phone tag, he made sure I got the best deal possible.
Cuts through, clear, lacks lower frequencies and body a little but is suitable for live performances.#sweepstakes
I own several mics (including AKG D5, and the usual Beta58 and 58). For my voice the D7 is the best. Open and cut the mix. The D5 is too muddy for me. The beta 58 is also fine but on my voice (baritenor) it is more middle. The best remains the D7.Recommended
Compared this C7 to the Shure Beta 87. Specs show it has more output, slightly flatter response, tighter supercardiod pattern, quieter noise floor and higher max SPL for the same retail price. I'm not disappointed. This is a great sounding mic. To check the pickup pattern I spoke into it and rotated it through 180 degrees from front to back and watch the meters on the mixer. For voice, it starts dropping at about 45 degrees from front and center and by the time I got to 90 degrees I was down by more than 30 db. From behind it was down another 5db again, but it was an unscientific test so probably was picking up room reflections. Using it at graduation to pick up audio for video it did a really good job of rejecting the room speakers and noise...it almost behaved ... MoreCompared this C7 to the Shure Beta 87. In my opinion, it's a better mic than the Beta 87 and has excellent sound quality and feedback rejection characteristics. It's an attractive mic, too. I plan to buy more.
Used this mic in different occasions for different styles on different voices (except grunting so far).It always sounded fine, a bit brighter than the good old SM58, but no harshness at all.And it looks and feels good too !
