I recently acquired the Acer Nitro 5 - 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop, and overall, I'm quite satisfied with its performance, especially considering its price point. While it has its strengths for VR gaming, there are a few aspects that could be improved,Let's start with the positives. The combination of the Intel Core i5 processor and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card delivers commendable performance for most gaming needs. VR gaming, in particular, is quite enjoyable on this laptop. The graphics are impressive, and the frame rates are generally smooth, creating an immersive experience that draws you into the virtual world. The 16GB DDR4 RAM is a definite advantage, providing sufficient memory for multitasking and ensuring smooth performance while running ... MoreI recently acquired the Acer Nitro 5 - 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop, and overall, I'm quite satisfied with its performance, especially considering its price point. VR gaming, in particular, is quite enjoyable on this laptop. The graphics are impressive, and the frame rates are generally smooth, creating an immersive experience that draws you into the virtual world. The 16GB DDR4 RAM is a definite advantage, providing sufficient memory for multitasking and ensuring smooth performance while running demanding games and applications simultaneously. You can enjoy seamless gameplay without worrying about performance issues or lag.The 512GB Gen 4 SSD storage is a reasonable size and offers fast loading times, allowing you to jump into your games quickly. It provides enough space for your gaming library and other files, although it might fill up relatively quickly if you have a large collection of games. In terms of design, the Acer Nitro 5 boasts a sleek black finish that gives it a modern and premium look. The 15.6" FHD display delivers vibrant visuals, enhancing your gaming experience. The keyboard is comfortable to use, and the backlit keys are a nice touch for low-light environments. Now, let's address the areas where the laptop could be improved. While the performance is generally good, there are instances where demanding VR games may push the limits of the Intel Core i5 processor. Upgrading to a more powerful processor would enhance the overall performance and future-proof the laptop.Additionally, while the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card is capable, it may struggle with the most demanding VR titles on higher settings. For optimal performance in VR gaming, a more powerful graphics card would be desirable.Despite these minor limitations, the Acer Nitro 5 - 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop is still an excellent choice for gamers on a budget. Its performance and affordability make it a solid option for VR gaming enthusiasts who don't want to invest heavily in a high-end gaming rig.In conclusion, if you're looking for an affordable gaming laptop that can handle VR gaming and offers respectable performance, the Acer Nitro 5 is a solid choice. While it has some room for improvement, its price-to-performance ratio remains impressive. Consider this laptop if you're looking to dip your toes into VR gaming without breaking the bank.

I picked this laptop up when it went on sale and it did not disappoint. I had initially purchased an HP Victus but had issues with the sound popping randomly, and the other Victus model I got had a 60hz screen… which is terrible for gaming. This laptop has a modern GPU in the 3050, a lightning fast gen 4 NVMe ssd, and a nice 12th gen i5 processor. It’s a bummer that it only comes with 8gb of ram, but pick up a 16gb stick and you’ll be good to go. Expandable up to 32gb of RAM, and offers an additional M2 slot for more storage. The included performance software allows you to control the fan speed and even change the color of the keyboard, which is uncommon for an entry level gaming laptop.Gaming wise this laptop can run modern AAA titles at a decent frame rate on ... MoreI picked this laptop up when it went on sale and it did not disappoint. For example I was able to get around 75 fps playing Warzone 2.0, which isn’t too bad. This laptop does great as a workstation thanks to it’s good processor and super fast SSD.The only knock on this laptop is the battery life, which lasts around 2 hours. You’ll probably be tethered to your charger with this thing, so I would consider this a good alternative to a prebuilt PC, and you have the portability to move it around the house.I’m super impressed by this laptop, Acer hit a home run with the performance at this value.

Biggest issue is that with two external monitors, after a month one of the monitors would not display the correct resolution. Acer said it was likely an Nvidia issue and Nvidia said it was likely an Acer issue. Have troubleshooted with both companies for hours and still not resolved. Acer sent me a return label for the laptop to be sent out of town for 7-10 days for repair. I can't deal with not having a computer for that long and would prefer they not take the route of wiping machine (which they said they would likely do) and starting all over again since I'll have to reinstall all of my software again. Microsoft Office didn't initially work correctly - lags with typing, text disappearing while typing, etc. Reinstalled it although it's still not working that ... MoreBiggest issue is that with two external monitors, after a month one of the monitors would not display the correct resolution. Very disappointed with this purchase. Acer provides good value for the features but what good is that if there are unresolved operating issues. I purchased an Acer Nitro as well as two Acer monitors 5-6 years ago and never had issues with them. Do not believe that I would buy another Acer at this point.
The price for the specs are great. I've had other gaming laptops before including a nitro 5 and know what to expect at this price point. At this price you're going to get plastic build unless you go for a MSI model. I've had a 3050 nitro 5 for 18 months and it's held together well without hinge problems but I never abuse the machine. The specs are great. 6 cores and a RTX 3060 will play most eSports games at 150 fps at ultra. Triple A games that push the laptop will provide a steady 80-100fps at high settings and can be higher with FSR or DLSS enabled.Let me point out that I added another stick of ram to double it to 16. These take a stick of so-dimm 3200 DDR 4 that are anywhere from $20-$50 online and it's really the first things you can/should upgrade. It ... MoreThe price for the specs are great. It does offer decent upgradeability and is easy to disassemble.
I needed to upgrade to a Windows 11 laptop but was discouraged upon discovering that in an effort to achieve maximum "thinness", virtually ALL new laptops lack a sufficient number of USB ports, RJ45 LAN connectivity and an optical drive. Additionally, most lack an HDMI port. My son suggested I consider a gaming laptop and recommended this one. It turned out to be a great choice. It has no optical drive, so I bought a stand-alone external USB optical drive/burner for less than $40. Otherwise, this laptop performs flawlessly and has far more performance capability than I will ever use. It is very fast, boots quickly has awesome graphics display. All my programs and apps installed easily and performed well. All my programs and apps installed easily and performed well. My son is somewhat of a "gamer" and was favorably impressed with this one. It came with an internal hard drive add-on kit, so I installed a 2.5" 1TB SSD in short order. Installation was a breeze and I found Acer's support page to be fantastic. Other than the learning curve needed to familiarize myself with Windows 11, this was a smooth exercise, and I am very well pleased. BJ's had an incredible price and shipped it to my home in a timely manner. I highly recommend this laptop if you're in the market for a new one.
It has great value for the money. I'm one of those people who enjoys a larger screen, so this 17.3 in was right in my wheelhouse. Had two that are much better quality graphic card, a decent processor and RAM, And it's kind of hard to beat. It works well with my quest to virtual reality headset as well. A couple of reviews have mentioned that the colors seem wash out? I know expert, but if I wanted super high-end video quality, I would have to spend a lot more than this. I'm entirely happy with the video quality on this. It was also a nice change that it was extremely easy to add both RAM, and a second SSD to this laptop. It is kind of heavy, as a bunch of other reviews have mentioned. It's not really meant to lug around all day. The other weird thing is that it was extremely difficult to fit into a generic laptop carrying case that specifically meant for 17.3 in laptops.Overall? Positives waaaaaaaay outweigh the negatives here. For $750 on sale, you can't beat it.
Good Points: This is a very solid 7/10 for me.Great price. This machine will play No Man's Sky and at the same time livestream the gameplay to YouTube through OBS at high quality so, it's better than I was expecting.Funky lights on keyboard are controlled via Nitrosense button on numpad. Keyboard is better then the gaming laptops around this price which squash the keys together.Nitrosense app helps see what going on with cooling fans which seem to cope very well with gameplay. No Man's Sky, WWE 2K22, World of Warcraft, Grounded, all play on high/ultra settings and the RTX 3060 inside can run shading and ray tracing effects in Minecraft etc very well. Warcraft Dragonflight can be weird with FPS (unrelated to hardware) but I went from 37fps on a intel UHD card ... MoreGood Points: This is a very solid 7/10 for me.Great price. This machine will play No Man's Sky and at the same time livestream the gameplay to YouTube through OBS at high quality so, it's better than I was expecting.Funky lights on keyboard are controlled via Nitrosense button on numpad. Warcraft Dragonflight can be weird with FPS (unrelated to hardware) but I went from 37fps on a intel UHD card laptop to 225fps on this machine.Laptop speakers are obviously never the most amazing but sound is clear and volume is good. EQ controlled via Nitrosense. Some people complain about the noise from the fans. Well it's an RTX 3060 GPU in a laptop and it has 4 exhausts around the rim to cool it down so yeah it's not whisper quiet. At 2500rpm it's fairly quiet then at 3000rpm and up to 4500 it gets a little loud sure but it depends on the game and is pretty easy to ignore while playing and not mention, gaming headphones exist for a reason!I am very happy with this machine.Improvement Points: Like, the only real physical issue I have is there's no SD card slot but usb adapters are dirt cheap so it's a non issue.Again loud fan noise is barely an issue while playing most games and I have not tweaked settings yet. Loudest blast I heard was during a system update where I assume it was testing them. I won't lie it sounded like a hair dryer but it didn't last long and it hasn't been that loud since.
Had an older Nitro that would take 10 minutes to warm up to the point where i could start using it just to get into the internet. It would take another 5 minutes to load my game and my game would lag while playing. By contrast, this Nitro is super fast! It is ready to go immediately upon startup and takes less than 30 seconds to load my game. My game also runs so much faster on this laptop. Negatives: the edge is sharp and this is a heavy, hot laptop. If you use this on your lap like I do, you'll want to put a barrier of some sort between you and the laptop that doesn't make it even hotter. I use a usb, lightweight laptop fan pad. I use a glove style cushioned wrist rest to combat the discomfort. This is also a really heavy laptop, so moving it with one hand can be a struggle depending on how far you're lifting it. Even with these negatives, the speed, speakers, graphics, etc make this a worthwhile purchase imo. I kept my last laptop for 4+ years, and I expect this one will last even longer. It is my faborite splurge in years!
